PDP Breaks Silence: Why Wike, Fayose & Others Were Suspended

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has finally explained why it suspended former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, along with several top party figures.

According to VANGUARD, the party said the affected leaders engaged in activities harmful to the PDP, prompting decisive action during its national convention in Ibadan on Saturday, November 15, 2025.


Party officials revealed that Wike, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose were accused of taking steps that directly worked against the party’s interests.

The motion for their suspension was moved by Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, receiving unanimous approval from PDP members.

This decision came shortly after Wike’s widely criticized altercation with an armed soldier in Abuja—an incident many believe worsened tensions within the party.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has delivered a blunt assessment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that Nigeria’s main opposition party is “in a state of comatose” and possibly beyond redemption.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayose said the PDP’s internal problems have deepened following contradictory court rulings and power struggles, accusing some judges of judicial overreach.

“I have to tell you the hard truth — PDP is in trouble, the party has gone bad and is in a coma,” he stated. “When a fish decays from the head, there’s no saving it.”

Fayose specifically condemned an Oyo State High Court order allowing the PDP’s national convention to proceed despite an earlier Federal High Court injunction stopping it, describing the ruling as compromised and dangerous for the rule of law.

The outspoken former governor said the party’s leadership crisis stemmed from failures at the top, warning that the PDP is imploding under internal divisions and judicial confusion.

“The judge compromised the matter and granted an ex parte order. This is a bad precedent,” he said.

Despite his criticism, Fayose reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the PDP, though he admitted that several of his colleagues had already left.

“Three governors have gone already, and another will soon leave. When I return here, I’ll remind you,” he added.


The PDP, which has been battling factional leadership between Umar Damagum and Samuel Anyanwu’s camp, continues to face deepening legal and political turmoil ahead of its national convention.

Forgery Allegation Deepens PDP Crisis Ahead Of November Convention.

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh twist after the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Inspector General of Police over an alleged forgery of his signature.

In petitions dated October 15 and submitted on October 16, Anyanwu denied signing the August 29 letter sent to INEC concerning the party’s planned November 15–16 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In his letter titled “RE: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Year 2025 Elective National Convention: Petition Against Forgery and Cloning of My Signature”, Anyanwu insisted that the correspondence purportedly bearing his signature was neither signed nor authorised by him.

He urged the DSS and the police to immediately investigate what he described as a case of forgery capable of undermining the party’s integrity ahead of its convention.

The controversy comes amid a pending suit filed by aggrieved party chieftains seeking to halt the exercise. In suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/25, PDP chairmen from Imo and Abia states, Austin Nwachukwu and Amah Abraham Nnanna, alongside the South-South Zonal Secretary, Turnah Alabah George, accused the Damagum-led National Working Committee of breaching the party’s constitution and internal election rules.

Defendants in the case include INEC, the PDP, Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, and other senior officials.

At Tuesday’s sitting, the court adjourned proceedings to October 20, after a dispute erupted over who was authorised to represent the PDP in court.

Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) and Chris Uche (SAN) both claimed the mandate, prompting Justice James Omotosho to order them to present proof of authorisation. He directed all parties to exchange documents by October 17.

UPDATED: PDP NEC Concludes Meeting, Sets National Convention for November

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed its elective national convention for November 15–16, 2025, to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State. The decision was reached at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the NEC approved the schedule and tasked the National Chairman, Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, with notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with electoral guidelines.

The NEC also approved the composition of the Convention and Zoning Committees to ensure a credible and transparent process.

Reaffirming its status as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the PDP NEC condemned defections by elected members and directed its National Working Committee to initiate legal action to reclaim the affected seats. It also warned against dual party membership and urged erring members to remain loyal.

The next NEC meeting is scheduled for August 25, 2025.

Damagum made the disclosure on Monday while addressing journalists shortly after the NEC meeting held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
