The investigation reveals massive inflows and outflows across hundreds of bank accounts, with several suspects named in UAE court judgments for aiding terrorist financing. The financial trails show transfers for weapons procurement, cross-border funding, money laundering, and links to convicted terrorists. International suspects, including the late Rwandan businessman Tribert Ayabatwa, his son Paul Nkwaya and arms dealer Aboubacar Hima, were tied to offshore transfers and arms financing. • EXCLUSIVE: Enugu Lawyer Accused of Defrauding Widow of Police Officer Killed by SARS in Multi-Billion Naira Scheme

A SaharaReporters investigation has uncovered how Enugu-based lawyer, Barrister Tony Igwe, allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated scheme to defraud Gift Ezenwa—the widow of former police officer Collins Ezenwa, who was extrajudicially killed by the defunct SARS in 2018. After presenting himself as a trusted ally capable of recovering her husband's seized assets, Igwe allegedly manipulated, isolated, and exploited the young widow, taking control of her finances, properties, and legal documents. The investigation reveals accusations of forgery, threats, financial manipulation, illegal property sales, and the diversion of billions of naira. Igwe is also alleged to have exploited her postpartum vulnerability and controlled her life for years, including during her forced relocation to the UK. Evidence suggests he liquidated her assets, emptied accounts, and exercised psychological control while posing as her protector. Multiple law enforcement sources describe the case as one of the most shocking abuses of trust and legal malpractice in recent years.

  • Tinubu Gifts Luxury Vehicles to State Coordinators for 2027 Campaign as Insecurity Worsens

  • Kaduna Government Withholds Federal Allocations From 23 LGAs for Months, Defying Supreme Court Autonomy Ruling

Kaduna State’s 23 local government councils have reportedly gone over three months without receiving their constitutionally mandated federal allocations, despite a July 2024 Supreme Court ruling granting full financial autonomy to local governments. Sources told SaharaReporters that since Governor Uba Sani assumed office in 2023, councils have only received N10 million monthly for limited expenses, apart from salaries. Officials say the withheld funds have crippled basic administration, including payment of casual staff, security response, logistics, and community support. Some councils—particularly in insecurity-prone areas like Giwa, Birnin Gwari, Kachia, and Kagarko—are unable to conduct essential operations.

Local government insiders allege that media coverage has been muted due to political pressure and accuse the Ministry for Local Governments of diverting funds into private accounts. The financial crisis has reignited tensions between Governor Uba Sani and former governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently accused Sani of mismanaging resources and diverting public funds. However, a Kaduna State House of Assembly report also indicts El-Rufai’s own administration for large-scale financial mismanagement, irregular contracts, and misuse of both domestic and foreign loans between 2015 and 2023. Councils now await the restoration of federal allocations to function according to the Supreme Court’s directive.

  • Local Contractors Protest Non-Payment of ₦4 Trillion — Accuse Tinubu Govt of Ignoring 2024 Project Debts

Local contractors under the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) are protesting again over the Federal Government’s failure to pay ₦4 trillion owed for completed 2024 capital projects.

Despite multiple meetings with the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, the contractors say no payment has been made.

Many say they are now out of business:

“We’ve run out of cash. We can’t pay school fees. We can’t continue like this,” a contractor told SaharaReporters.

In September, the contractors stormed the Ministry of Finance in Abuja demanding payment. Only 5 out of 5,000 contractors have reportedly received anything.

The protests forced the House of Representatives to suspend plenary earlier this month, after lawmakers acknowledged the “dire hardship” contractors are facing.

Meanwhile, data from GovSpend shows the Presidency spent billions on vehicles and foreign exchange in 2024 — raising more questions about government priorities.

The contractors vow to remain on the streets until every member is paid.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has stated that most b+ndit leaders and their followers have been neutralised, noting that only a few scattered elements remain. He added that President Bola Tinubu has directed Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to eliminate the remaining bandits in the North-West.

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Kebbi State Police confirmed the abduction of at least 25 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko/Wasagu LGA, on Monday morning.

The attack by heavily armed bandits resulted in the d+ath of one staff member and injury to another, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi said. The incident reportedly occurred around 4am, with assailants engaging police officers in a gun battle.

Matawalle made his remarks during a visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters, following Juma’at prayers at the Command Mosque.

According to his Director of Information, Ibrahim Sule, he conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for the troops’ courage, patriotism, and achievements in dismantling bandit formations across the Northwest.

He told the soldiers: “Most key bandit leaders and their foot soldiers have been neutralised through your gallant effort. What remains now are scattered elements, and the Commander-in-Chief has directed that these must be completely eliminated. You have every support needed logistics, equipment, welfare, and morale to finish the job.”

Matawalle was received by Theatre Commander Maj. Gen. Warrah Bello Idris, who briefed him on recent operations, including neutralising high-value targets and reclaiming communities previously under bandit control. The minister praised the troops’ resilience, calling their sacrifices the foundation for peace returning to Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Addressing officers and soldiers, Matawalle urged sustained vigilance and discipline, assuring them that total victory was near. “Your sacrifices will never be in vain. The President, the nation, and soon the people of this region will sleep peacefully,” he declared.

You have every support needed logistics, equipment, welfare, and morale to finish the job.” Matawalle was received by Theatre Commander Maj.
