  • Mohbad’s Family Renews Call for Probe, Bars His Widow from Using ‘Aloba’ Pending DNA Test.

The family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has renewed its call for a transparent and independent probe into his d+ath while directing his wife, Wunmi, to stop using the family surname pending the result of a court-ordered DNA test.

In a statement signed by family head Omolayo Aloba and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family said it remained “resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.”

It announced the appointment of Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., as the family’s sole legal representative for estate and DNA matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, will continue to represent them before investigative authorities.

Three administrators — Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba — were named to manage the late singer’s assets, with one slot left for Wunmi if the DNA test confirms that her son, Liam, is Mohbad’s biological child.

The family also instructed Wunmi to “cease using the surname Aloba in public or private records until lawful confirmation of paternity is obtained,” noting that “no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo.”

Reacting, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, described the directive as illegal and sentimental, saying, “Nobody can stop her from bearing Aloba. That is the name given to her by her husband, and under the law, she has every right to keep it.”

He accused the Aloba family of frustrating the DNA process despite multiple court orders, adding, “We are ready for the DNA any time, any day. The child is not a bastard, and my client has nothing to fear.”

Mohbad, a former Marlian Music signee, who is yet to be buried,  died on September 12, 2023, at 27. The Lagos State Police Command had earlier inaugurated a 13-man team to probe his death.

  • Mohbad’s Father Demands Prosecution of late son’s Wife, Auxiliary Nurse, Others Named in Coroner’s Verdict.

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has once again pressed for justice, urging the Lagos State government to prosecute his daughter-in-law, Omowunmi Aloba, alongside others indicted in the Coroner’s Inquest into his son’s death.

In a petition signed by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu, SAN, and addressed to Attorney-General Lawal Pedro, SAN, Aloba demanded accountability for all those named. Among them is the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to Mohbad shortly before his passing.

He also asked for prosecution of individuals who were present in the apartment and either invited the nurse or failed to ensure Mohbad was taken immediately to a hospital.

The Coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, in her July 2025 ruling, described Ogedengbe’s conduct as “unlawful and professionally negligent,” recommending her criminal prosecution for medical misadventure since the injection was given without a doctor’s prescription. Magistrate Shotobi also faulted Mohbad’s wife for choosing home treatment over urgent medical care.

Despite these findings, more than two months have passed without any charges filed by the Lagos State Government. This inaction has fueled growing concern. Shittu noted that his client “is deeply troubled by the fact that, despite the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s Verdict, no prosecutorial steps have been taken against the mentioned individuals since the verdict was delivered on July 11, 2025.”

He further urged the Attorney-General to act swiftly within 14 days or, alternatively, grant a fiat to enable the family to pursue the matter directly. “Alternatively, if your Honourable Office is not inclined to prosecute…the individuals…we respectfully request that a fiat be granted…to prosecute the matter on behalf of the State,” Shittu wrote.

The case has continued to generate nationwide attention, with Aloba insisting that only swift action will deliver justice and accountability in his son’s tragic death.

  • Court Orders DNA Test on Late Mohbad’s Son.

The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has directed that DNA tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The order was issued on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga following an application filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought to confirm the child’s paternity.

The court mandated that two separate DNA tests be conducted ,one in an accredited hospital in Nigeria and another abroad. Both parties or their representatives are required to be present during the sample collection.

In his application, Aloba argued that uncertainty over Liam’s paternity makes the test necessary, especially as it affects issues of child welfare and maintenance obligations. He requested that tissue or hair samples be taken from the late singer’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba for the purpose of the test.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi from Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba. With no objection from the respondent’s counsel, the court granted the application as prayed.

The matter was adjourned until November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.

  • Court orders two DNA tests on late Mohbad's son.

The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu has directed that two Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests be carried out on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga issued the order on Tuesday while ruling on an application filed by the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, who sought a paternity test.

The late Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the application brought under the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) 2012 and the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.

The application requested that samples be taken from the remains of the deceased at the Military Hospital in Yaba for use in conducting the tests, either within Lagos or in another recognised facility outside the state.

It further sought approval for a separate test to be conducted abroad at the applicant’s expense.

In court filings, Aloba argued that uncertainty about Liam’s paternity made it necessary to conclusively settle the matter, stressing its importance for maintenance obligations and the child’s welfare.

At the hearing, Aloba was represented by Augustine Adegbemi from the chambers of Dr Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., while Kabir Akingbolu appeared for the respondent. The application was moved without opposition, leading the magistrate to grant the request.

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has dismissed Naira Marley’s claims of innocence, insisting that the Marlian Music boss bullied his son while he was alive.

Speaking in an interview , Aloba said contrary to Marley’s recent video statement where he denied involvement in Mohbad’s troubles and death, his son suffered harassment under the singer’s watch. Marley had claimed he only tried to guide Mohbad after discovering he was allegedly using illicit substances.

Aloba, however, maintained otherwise: “I went to see Naira Marley over some of the things Mohbad had said, and that was all. But later, I personally witnessed other incidents. There were about three people present at the time—two are still alive today.

  • Atiku Abubakar has said his priority is a better Nigeria, not a desperate quest to be president.

He made this known on Saturday in Lagos at an affirmation ceremony where some PDP & Labour Party leaders formally defected to the ADC. He was represented at the event by Prof. Ola Olateju.

The former PDP candidate, who recently left the party with other opposition figures to join the ADC, stressed that his political journey is about building a prosperous & secure nation. “Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. It’s not about him being president at all costs but about ensuring good governance that delivers for Nigerians,” Olateju said on his behalf.

According to him, the ADC represents more than just a political party, describing it as a movement for national repositioning & a new beginning for Nigeria. He noted that Nigerians are facing hardship due to the removal of fuel subsidy & rising inflation but expressed confidence that the country can achieve progress under committed & visionary leadership

One of them, who worked with Naira Marley, once came to report to me that Marley was beating Mohbad. “When we went to see him to apologise, he wasn’t even speaking respectfully.

People think I went there to collect money, but life is much more than what I want to eat.” On the issue of financial transactions, Mohbad’s father confirmed that Marley once raised concerns that the late singer was receiving payments through another account instead of his own.

“Naira Marley complained to me that he (Mohbad) was collecting money with an account that was not his. I also noticed he sent me money from a strange account, and I warned him that anything he wanted to give me should come from his personal account. That’s all I know about the account matter,” he explained.

Meanwhile, fresh revelations that Mohbad allegedly routed payments through his mother-in-law’s account have stirred further controversy. His sister-in-law, Karimo, stated: “Naira Marley revealed that it was Wunmi’s mother’s account number Mohbad presented for his payments, and nobody is saying anything. By now, I expect the SAN working for Baba Mohbad to have written a petition for that account to be investigated.”
Atiku Abubakar has said his priority is a better Nigeria, not a desperate quest to be president. He noted that Nigerians are facing hardship due to the removal of fuel subsidy & rising inflation but expressed confidence that the country can achieve progress under committed & visionary leadership One of them, who worked with Naira Marley, once came to report to me that Marley was beating Mohbad.
