• Former Liverpool and England Striker Andy Carroll to Face Court Over Alleged Breach of Non-Molestation Order

Former Liverpool, Newcastle United and England striker Andy Carroll is set to be arraigned at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court over allegations that he breached a non-molestation order. The 36-year-old footballer, who currently plays for National League South side Dagenham & Redbridge, was arrested in April 2025, with police stating that the alleged offence occurred a month earlier. Essex Police confirmed that Carroll has been charged and is due to appear in court on December 30. A non-molestation order is a UK court injunction intended to prevent contact or proximity between individuals, and breaching it is a criminal offence that can carry penalties ranging from fines to a prison sentence of up to five years in serious cases. Carroll, a former £35 million Liverpool signing and nine-time England international, enjoyed a long career across top English clubs including West Ham, West Bromwich Albion and Reading, as well as a spell in France with Amiens. The court appearance marks the latest off-field controversy involving the striker since his move away from top-flight football.

  • Tragedy in African Football as Burundian Midfielder Igiraneza Aimé Guéric Collapses and Dies on the Pitch Amid Allegations of Witchcraft Use

Tragedy struck Burundian football after second-division midfielder Igiraneza Aimé Guéric collapsed and died during a competitive league match, sparking widespread shock and controversy across the country. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Ngaraga National Technical Centre, where Guéric was playing for Les Guêpiers du Lac against LLB Amasipiri Never Give Up.
Eyewitnesses reported that the player suddenly slumped on the pitch during the game and was given immediate medical attention before being rushed to the hospital. Despite the swift response, Guéric was confirmed dead on arrival, leaving teammates, officials, and fans devastated.
While the Burundi Football Federation (FFB) confirmed the footballer’s death in an official condolence statement, it did not disclose the cause of death. The federation expressed sympathy to the player’s family, his club, and the wider Burundian football community, urging calm and respect as the nation mourns.
However, the tragedy quickly became controversial following allegations by spectators who claimed that Guéric’s collapse was linked to a traditional witchcraft practice. According to reports circulating among fans and cited by some media outlets, the midfielder allegedly swallowed a coin taken from a charm or amulet hidden under his tongue—an act believed to provide spiritual advantage in football. It was claimed this action caused him to choke or collapse, ultimately leading to his death.
These allegations remain unconfirmed, with no official medical or forensic report released to support them. Notably, Guéric had reportedly denied previous accusations of using spiritual aids, despite claims that such practices remain common in parts of African football.
The incident has ignited a national conversation in Burundi about the dangers of using spiritual or mystical objects, often referred to as “gris-gris,” in sports. Reports indicate that the Burundi Football Federation has already placed a ban on such practices due to the risks they pose to players’ health and safety.
Football stakeholders, fans, and civil society groups have called for a thorough investigation into Guéric’s death to establish the true cause and prevent future tragedies. The case has also renewed discussions about superstition, player education, and the need for stronger medical and regulatory safeguards in African football, especially in lower divisions where resources are limited.
Guéric’s death adds to a troubling history of football-related tragedies on the continent and underscores the urgent need for awareness, professionalism, and player welfare reforms at all levels of the game.

Notable names implicated include Galatasaray’s Metehan Baltacı, previously suspended for nine months, and Fenerbahçe’s Mert Hakan Yandaş, accused of using third-party accounts to evade detection. The scandal has swept through all levels of Turkish football, leading to the suspension of over 1,000 players and nearly 150 referees by the Turkish Football Federation. Two club presidents are also under investigation for attempting to manipulate a third-division match, while only one foreign player—Alassane Ndao of Konyaspor—has been directly linked so far.

  • Billionaire Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo inspires Boniface and others as he reveals he has over 40 cars.

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he no longer keeps track of the number of cars he owns, admitting that his passion for luxury vehicles has faded over time.

In a recent chat, the Al-Nassr forward said, “I can buy anything I want, but I don’t need that anymore.” When asked about the number of cars in his collection, he responded, “I bought a car about three days ago, but it’s for collection like an investment. I don’t even have count of how many cars I have.”

He continued, “I don’t know honestly how many cars I have — maybe 41, 42, I don’t know. My favorite among them is my Bugatti.”

Ronaldo also disclosed that he rarely visits his garage. “I don’t even go to the garage to see my cars. Sometimes when I pass by after an inspection, I just look at them and say, ‘Oh, they are good and clean,’ then they go back into the garage,” he said with a smile.

According to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, cars are no longer a passion for him. When asked if he still drives, he replied, “Yes, I can drive. I even drive around a lot in the south, but the traffic is terrible.”

The 39-year-old Portuguese international, who has played for top clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, is known for his enviable collection of supercars — from Bugattis and Lamborghinis to Ferraris and Rolls-Royces.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo leapfrogs Boniface, Osimhen, Messi, and others to become football’s first billionaire after mega Al-Nassr deal

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become football’s first-ever billionaire, with his net worth now estimated at a staggering £1.04 billion, according to financial analysts at Bloomberg.

The 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward reached the milestone after his career earnings, endorsement deals, and investments were evaluated and adjusted for tax rates and market performance. Bloomberg reported that Ronaldo’s lucrative stint in Saudi Arabia has “catapulted him to the top of the global sports rich list,” making him the first footballer to appear on their Billionaires Index.

Ronaldo’s wealth now far surpasses that of his long-time rival Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami in the United States.

A major contributor to Ronaldo’s fortune is his lifetime partnership with Nike, valued at around £745 million, alongside other endorsements with global brands like Tag Heuer, Armani, PokerStars, Samsung, Unilever, and Louis Vuitton.

The Portuguese superstar is also investing heavily in luxury real estate, including a £28 million mansion complex in his home country. He is often seen flaunting high-end jewellery and watches, among them a Franck Muller Invisible Baguette Diamonds Imperial Tourbillon worth £1.13 million.

At Al-Nassr, Ronaldo earns a jaw-dropping £167.9 million per year — roughly £300 per minute, though he recently confessed he’d prefer to play solely for Portugal. In addition to his record-breaking contract, Ronaldo reportedly holds a stake in Al-Nassr, further boosting his immense fortune.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested a local footballer, Ikechukwu Elijah, in the Apo-Waru area of Abuja for manufacturing and distributing hazardous, unregistered chemicals to the unsuspecting public.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by NAFDAC’s deputy director of public relations and protocol, Adegboyega Osiyemi, on Friday, September 5.

Counterfeit and substandard products have remained a persistent public health threat in Nigeria.

NAFDAC has repeatedly warned that such items expose citizens to dangerous substances, compromise safety, and undermine trust in regulated goods.

According to its statement, NAFDAC said the suspect operates an illegal factory in a residential building in the area and is notorious for counterfeiting popular brands of chemicals and insecticides.

“Initially, when contacted for interrogation by detectives, he denied any knowledge of chemical production in the area.

“He later confessed to the crime and admitted ownership of the illegal facility after a thorough search was conducted around the compound.

“The operation also led to the arrest of his younger brother inside the factory.

Former Barcelona and England striker, Gary Lineker, has revealed that several top European clubs backed out of signing Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen due to concerns about his character.

Before sealing a four-year move to Turkish giants Galatasaray in a deal reportedly worth €75 million, Osimhen had attracted serious interest from elite clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal.

However, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker suggested that behind-the-scenes concerns may have influenced those clubs’ decisions.

“I watched Osimhen a couple of times when Napoli played Leicester in the Europa League, and he really stood out,” Lineker said. “He was absolutely brilliant for Napoli—sensational.”

Despite praising his talent and performance, Lineker disclosed that certain off-field issues may have raised red flags. “I’ve heard whispers that he sometimes goes missing for a few days, which has led to some questions about his character,” he added.

Lineker’s comments shed light on why some of Europe’s top clubs may have hesitated despite Osimhen’s outstanding form in Serie A.

  • Suspected cultists hack footballer to d3ath during training session in Lagos.

A footballer identified simply as Kamo has been hacked to d3ath by unidentified assailants suspected to be cultists in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday morning, July 10, while the deceased was observing his routine training session at a popular local football ground known as “Centre Field”.

Kamo, who is a goalkeeper for a grassroots team, B-Unit Football Club, had finished his morning drills when some male adults accosted him on his way home.

A resident who did not want his name mentioned while citing security reasons told Punch on Saturday that the attackers immediately descended on Kamo with dangerous weapons and left him with fatal cuts on his head.

He was, however, said to have succumbed to the injuries on the spot before help could arrive.

"He came to the field regularly and went home with some of his colleagues, but on this particular day, he left alone after the morning drill. He had just walked some metres away from the centre when some boys ambushed him and macheted him on the spot. This caused those around to run for safety, and before help could come, he had already died,” the source narrated.

Meanwhile, there have been speculations that the incident could be cult-related due to past incidents of cult attacks in the area.

Another source, who only identified himself as Kazeem, however, described the late athlete as an easy-going fellow.

“Some people had speculated that a rival cult gang attacked him, but I am not so sure about that. I understand this is because of the way he was k!lled, which was related to the incidents in the past. He is easy-going and he hardly caused trouble other than his football career and his side hustle,” he said.

He added that some members of the community had called on the police for more security surveillance in the community to forestall recurrence.
