• Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, as the Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

The appointment letter was presented at the Duguri palace on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aminu Hammayo, on behalf of the governor. He urged the new emir to support government policies & programmes aimed at achieving sustainable growth & development.

In his remarks, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed thanked the governor for the honour & pledged loyalty to the State Government & the Bauchi Emirate Council, praying for Allah’s blessings on the state leadership.

At the same event, Alhaji Jibrin D. Hassan was presented with his appointment letter as the Emir of Bununu Emirate. The SSG advised him to uphold the rule of law, promote peace among all tribes & contribute to the state’s progress.

Emir of Bununu expressed gratitude to the governor, promising to serve both the government & the people with dedication & integrity.

In its ruling, the court wrote:

“Rape is, in many cases, considered an exceptionally serious offense that could lead to the deportation of a refugee, but an assessment must be made based on all circumstances in the individual case. Given the nature and duration of the offense in question, the Court of Appeal finds that while the crime is serious, it does not constitute an exceptionally serious offense that would warrant a deportation order for Yazied Mohamed. The request for deportation is therefore rejected.”

The decision has provoked widespread outrage, with critics describing it as another example of Sweden’s overly lenient approach toward offenders with refugee status.

  • NDLEA Nabs Lagos, Onitsha Boutique Owner With 127 Wraps of Cocaine Hidden in Stomach and Underwear.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano for attempting to smuggle 127 wraps of cocaine into Nigeria.

Ejiofor, who reportedly owns boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was intercepted on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended following credible intelligence. A body scan revealed that he had ingested several pellets of cocaine and concealed more inside his underwear.

“Ejiofor was immediately taken into custody after the scan confirmed he had ingested the drugs. A total of 58 wraps were recovered from his underwear, while another 69 pellets were later excreted in seven rounds, bringing the total to 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms,” the statement said.

In related operations, NDLEA operatives in Lagos intercepted three shipments of illicit drugs bound for the United Kingdom between October 9 and 10. The seizures included 1.74 kg of methamphetamine hidden in glass ceramic blocks, 114 grams of pentazocine, 168 grams of tramadol injections, and 48 grams of tramadol capsules concealed in Vitamin C containers.

The agency also foiled attempts by other drug syndicates to smuggle 2.6 kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol disguised as black soap heading to Turkey, 169 grams of cocaine hidden in women’s handbags destined for Australia, and 568 grams of “Loyd” cannabis concealed in herbal containers en route to the United Arab Emirates.

NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking networks across Nigeria and beyond.

  • Weeks after a peace agreement between the Katsina State Government and armed bandit groups, the Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Area, Engr. Sagir Tanimu, has come under scrutiny for attending the wedding ceremony of children belonging to some of the bandits.

The ceremony, which took place in Kadawan Dandume village, was reportedly part of the state’s ongoing reconciliation efforts with the bandits operating in the region. Tanimu, alongside other dignitaries including the Prince of Kogo Emirate, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello Kogo, and the District Head of Sabuwa, joined Fulani residents in the forest to mark the occasion.

However, critics have expressed concern over the gesture, noting that despite the peace pact, the armed groups have yet to renounce their criminal activities or surrender their weapons. Locals insist that genuine peace can only be achieved when the bandits formally disarm and abandon violence.

All six, identified as Abdurrahman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad, were convicted of attempting to set up a Boko Haram cell in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Treasury said in a statement.

“With this action, the United States joins the UAE in targeting terrorist financing networks of mutual concern,” Under Secretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson said.

“Treasury continues to target financial facilitators of terrorist activity worldwide. We welcome multilateral action on this Boko Haram network to ensure that it is not able to move any further funds through the international financial system,” he added.

The men were convicted in the UAE of attempting to send $782,000 from Dubai to Boko Haram in Nigeria.

  • Nigeria Has Pulled Back From Economic Collapse — Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II Hails the CBN Reforms.

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Muhammadu Sanusi, has praised the current leadership of the apex bank for what he described as a “remarkable turnaround” in Nigeria’s monetary and economic stability.

Speaking on recent economic developments, Sanusi said he had “nothing but positive words” for the CBN’s policies, noting that the institution had successfully stabilized the exchange rate and curbed the reckless monetary expansion that once threatened the economy.

“We came from a period of very high instability due to loose monetary policy and uncontrolled growth in money supply,” Sanusi stated. “In the last one year, the central bank has worked hard to mop up excess liquidity. Yes, interest rates are high, but the result is evident, we’ve stabilized the naira and pulled back from the brink of total economic collapse.”

The former governor highlighted key economic improvements, including declining inflation, which he noted had fallen to around 20 percent, and a steady rise in foreign reserves now exceeding $40 billion.

Sanusi also pointed out that Nigeria’s economy recorded growth of over 3 percent in the first quarter and more than 4 percent in the second quarter of the year, outpacing population growth for the first time in years.

He described these gains as evidence that the CBN’s policy tightening and reform efforts are beginning to yield tangible results, restoring investor confidence and setting the economy on a path toward long-term stability.

  • Kwara Emir allegedly Orders Arrest of Youth Leader Over Protest Against Insecurity.

The Emir of Tsaragi in Kwara State, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Kpotwa Goshi II, has allegedly ordered the arrest of Musa Saidu Tsaragi, leader of the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB), after youths staged a peaceful protest against kidnappings and banditry in the community.

Saidu told SaharaReporters that the monarch became unsettled by Sunday’s demonstration in Edu Local Government Area, which he coordinated. “On Sunday I led a protest of kidnipping and banditry in the Taragi community, and it was peaceful and we’ll coordinate,” he said.

According to him, he was invited to the Emir’s palace on Monday, where he was hara§§ed and accused of leading protesters to the palace. “So yesterday evening, the Emir of Taragi… called a meeting that the police of Taragi Division should get me arrested,” Saidu alleged. “I want to inform you that Estu Tsaragi said the police should arrest me because I led a protest yesterday.”

The protest came hours after gunmen abducted a local businessman, Suleiman Ndana. Residents said Ndana placed a distress call before the attackers broke into his home, but security operatives never showed up. The kidnippers reportedly spared his pregnant wife after he surrendered himself.

The youths, chanting solidarity songs, demanded that Fulani settlers leave Tsaragi land and called on the Emir to convey their grievances to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing him of failing to protect communities in Kwara North.

  • Petrol Subsidy Removal Rescued Nigeria From Bankruptcy – Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi.

Muhammad Sanusi II, Emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, says scrapping petrol subsidy saved Nigeria from imminent bankruptcy.

Speaking at the second edition of the Kano International Poetry Festival on Saturday, Sanusi described the subsidy system as wasteful and unsustainable, noting that it drained government finances through oil price fluctuations, exchange rate pressures, transport costs, and refining expenses.

“Subsidy meant if petrol was N100, Nigerians paid N70 and government covered N30,” he explained. “But government went further, fixing petrol at N65 per litre regardless of global oil prices. Who paid the difference? Government. And that was always going to bankrupt Nigeria.”

He faulted past governments for neglecting local refineries while spending billions on subsidies that enriched foreign refineries and cost Nigerians jobs. According to him, those funds should have been invested in production rather than consumption.

The emir recalled warning as CBN governor in 2012 that the policy was like “a man running towards a ditch.” He said Nigeria eventually began borrowing to pay subsidies and later to service debts, making the arrangement unsustainable.

Sanusi stressed that subsidy removal should be seen not just as an economic reform but also as a chance to rebuild a more resilient and self-reliant nation.

  • “I’m suffering more than Manchester United fans,” Manager Ruben Amorim Says.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has vowed to fight on despite mounting pressure following a 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

The Portuguese coach, appointed in November 2024 as Erik ten Hag’s successor, has struggled to steady the Red Devils, winning just two of their last 13 league matches while losing eight. Speaking after the latest setback, Amorim insisted he would not abandon his philosophy.

“I will do everything I can for Manchester United. This is my message to the fans. I’m suffering more than them,” he said. “I won’t change my philosophy. If INEOS want it changed, you change the man.”

Despite spending nearly £200m last summer on attacking signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, United remain unbalanced. Critics argue the club neglected midfield, leaving Bruno Fernandes forced into a defensive role that does not suit him. Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte have also struggled, often leaving United to bypass midfield entirely.

Amorim’s future now hinges on whether he can correct those flaws, possibly by reshaping his midfield and making tough calls such as dropping captain Fernandes in favour of youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

While replacing Amorim mid-season would be a drastic move for co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club cannot allow its current trajectory to continue. If a change is made, observers warn against a hasty appointment, suggesting United may even need to wait until the end of 2025–26 to secure the right candidate.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is already being linked, having led the Cherries to a record 56 Premier League points last term. His high-energy style could complement United’s new-look forward line and make him a strong contender if Amorim’s tenure ends prematurely.

I’m suffering more than them,” he said. “I won’t change my philosophy. If INEOS want it changed, you change the man.” Despite spending nearly £200m last summer on attacking signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, United remain unbalanced.

  • Emir Sanusi: Nigeria Still Debating Tribe, Religion While Others Discuss AI, Climate Change

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has criticized Nigeria’s political leadership and societal focus, saying the country remains stuck in divisive debates on tribe and religion while the rest of the world addresses pressing global issues such as artificial intelligence and climate change.

Speaking on Saturday at the second Kano International Poetry Festival (KAPFEST), organized by the Poetic Wednesdays Initiative, Sanusi said Nigeria has suffered from “lousy leadership” for decades.

“You rise and fall with the quality of your leadership and Nigeria has had lousy leadership for a long time,” the emir said. “While other countries are discussing climate change and artificial intelligence, we are still talking about Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, North, South, Muslim, Christian — the same conversations we had in the 1960s.”

He urged Nigerian youths to take charge of the nation’s future, insisting they have the power to retire the current political class. Sanusi also warned that reckless borrowing and wasteful spending by government would have dire consequences for the country’s economy.

The festival, themed “Poetry in a Time of Crisis,” was aimed at encouraging poets and artists to use creativity as a tool for peace and advocacy in Northern Nigeria.

  • Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has defended President Bola Tinubu over his recent comment on the value of the Naira, insisting that the President was not lying.

Tribune Online reports that President Tinubu had claimed that the Naira had stabilised under his administration, moving from about ₦1,900/$ when he assumed office to the current ₦1,450/$.

“The economy has stabilised, nobody is trading a piece of paper for an exchange rate anymore. When I took over, it was ₦1,900 to a dollar. It’s ₦1,450 now. It’s been stabilising there. You don’t have to know Cardoso before you get your foreign exchange,” Tinubu said.

Reacting in a post on his verified X handle, Omokri cautioned a user identified as “Emir” against hastily branding the President a “liar,” arguing that Tinubu’s remark was rooted in facts.

He explained that before Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, 2023, Nigeria was spending about $1.5 billion monthly to subsidise the Naira even more than the petrol subsidy at the time.

Omokri noted that while the official exchange rate under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari stood at about ₦400/$, the “real unsubsidised value” of the currency was closer to ₦2,000/$.

He wrote: “Please fact-check me: Before President Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023, Nigeria spent $1.5 billion monthly to subsidise the Naira. The naira subsidy was actually higher than the subsidy on petrol.

“Whereas under General Buhari, you were buying the Dollar at the rate of about ₦400 to $1, the real exchange rate without the subsidy was about ₦2000 to $1.

“You may recall that when President Tinubu first floated the Naira, it suddenly fell to ₦1900 to $1.

“The reason it fell to that price was because that was the actual value of our currency.

“President Bola Tinubu was referring to that unsubsidised amount, which was the real value of the Naira.

The former presidential aide added that critics should verify facts before accusing Tinubu of dishonesty, suggesting that tools such as artificial intelligence could confirm the accuracy of the President’s claim.

Omokri also stressed that while political differences may exist, it was unfair to label the President a liar without proper fact-checking.

“He was not lying, and you can verify this with an AI like Grok.

“I understand that some of us may have political disagreements with the President, but perhaps you and I can conduct cursory research before labelling him a ‘congenital liar’”, he concluded.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Emir Of Lafiagi Threatens Journalists Over Reports On Terrorist Attacks In Kwara North

Journalists in Kwara State are facing mounting intimidation after the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Muhammad Kudu Kawu, reportedly threatened them for consistently reporting terrorist and bandit attacks in Kwara North communities.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the monarch summoned journalists to his palace on Sunday, warning them to stop publishing reports on insecurity, which he claimed were “embarrassing” Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

According to insiders, the Emir said he was acting on the governor’s directive and cautioned that journalists who defied the order risked arrest.

The threat comes amid rising insecurity in Lafiagi, Patigi, and surrounding areas, where residents have endured repeated kidnappings, killings, and ransom demands by bandits.

Journalists and media platforms including SaharaReporters, Nupeko TV, and Informant247 have previously accused the state government of attempting to silence coverage of insecurity.

The development follows the detention of blogger Abdulsamad Oloyin, popularly known as “Yolo,” by the NSCDC last week over alleged defamation, further fueling concerns of a clampdown on press freedom in the state.
