The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has warned Nigerians to stop scooping fuel from fallen or crashed tanker trucks, saying the act is very dangerous and can lead to death.

The Controller General of the FFS, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, gave the warning after a video showed people collecting fuel from a fallen tanker at Tincan Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos.

He explained that fuel can easily catch fire or explode, putting many lives at risk. Adeyemi advised people to stay away from such accident scenes and immediately call emergency services instead of trying to collect fuel.

According to him, no amount of fuel is worth losing lives.

NSIB CONFIRMS CESSNA 172 ACCIDENT AT SAM MBAKWE INTERNATIONAL CARGO AIRPORT, OWERRI SAYS INVESTIGATION ONGOING

The Nigerian safety investigation bureau (NSIB) has launched a full investigation into an accident involving a cessna 172 belonging to skypower express which occurred at approximately 20:00 local time on Monday 16 december 2025, at Sam Mbakwe international cargo airport, Owerri, Imo state.

The aircraft was en‑route from Kaduna international airport to Port harcort when the crew declared an emergency and diverted to Owerri.

During the approach to runway 17, the aircraft crashed in the approach area.

Four occupants were on board. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.

Airport emergency services were promptly activated, arrived on scene, and secured the area.

There was no post‑crash fire and the runway remained operational, allowing other flights to continue safely.

NSIB assured to keep the public informed as new information becomes available.

A young mother has been jailed for nine years for shaking her three-month-old daughter to de@th in the UK.

According to Sky News, Nazli Merthoca, 24, gave birth to Kaylani Kalanzi prematurely, and the newborn had to spend 29 days in hospital before she was allowed home on 13 May 2024.

Prosecutor Zoe Johnson KC told jurors that Merthoca was in a “mutually abusive relationship” with the child’s father, Herbert Kalanzi.

The infant was on social services’ radar before she was even born, and had been placed on a child protection plan, the Old Bailey was told. Before they could take custody of the child, the parents had to demonstrate they were fit parents, with Mr Kalanzi agreeing to attend a fatherhood programme.

But Ms Johnson said social services’ strategy was “doomed to fail” and the “ever-present risk” to Kaylani became a “fatal reality” on 8 July 2024.

The couple called emergency services shortly before 10.30pm, saying Kaylani had stopped breathing, and requesting help at Merthoca’s grandmother’s flat in Homerton, east London, where they were staying at the time.

When paramedics arrived, Merthoca failed to inform them that Kaylani had been violently shaken, causing bleeding to the brain, damage to her eyes, and fractures to her tibia and ribs, the court was told.

Admitted with catastrophic brain injuries, as well as a broken leg and ribs, Kaylani d!ed in the hospital 15 days later.

Merthoca became upset at being questioned about what happened, and claimed she was being blamed because of her “race and gender”, according to staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Ms Johnson said Merthoca had “lost her temper with the baby after an accumulation of factors” and also “challenged” social workers instead of accepting their help.

Benjamin Aina KC, defending, told the court that his client had faced “a number of significant challenges” in her life.

These included suffering physical abuse as a child and entering the care system when she was 12, where she started being “groomed by older men” and relying on cannabis and alcohol.

He also told of her “grief” over Kaylani.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday near Rochas Foundation School, along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass from Kwangila to Dan Magaji.

According to accounts shared with security analyst Zagazola Makama, who announced the incident via his X handle, the crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Golf cars. The collision sparked five loud explosions, igniting a massive fire and thick smoke that blanketed the highway.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” an eyewitness said.

The United States government has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting 18 Nigerian states due to heightened risks of terrorism, kidnapping, violent crime, armed gangs, and inadequate healthcare services.


The advisory, published on the website of the US Mission in Nigeria on Tuesday, classified the listed states under Level 4—the highest security threat level—and urged Americans to avoid travel to these areas under any circumstances.

“Reconsider travel to Nigeria due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, armed gangs, and inconsistent availability of health care services,” the advisory stated. “Some places in Nigeria have an increased risk. Overall, all locations carry significant security risks.”

The states listed under Level 4 are divided based on the predominant threats in those areas.

Despite billions of naira reportedly allocated to Edo State over the years for ecological control, residents claim there is no sign of drainage systems, retaining walls or any active erosion control efforts at the site.
