What do we call a nation where a mass murderer feels confident enough to issue a sermon, clarify figures, confirm negotiations, and invoke God while the state watches in silence?

FULL STATEMENT BY BELLO TURJI (UNEDITED, QUOTED IN FULL)

Bello Turji, a globally wanted terrorist leader responsible for mass killings, kidnappings, and terror across Nigeria’s North-West, released a video message. Below is his statement quoted word for word, from A to Z, as spoken:

“In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

People of the world, I greet you with the Islamic greeting: Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.

My Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and across West Africa, I wish you well. I do not need to mention my name, everyone knows who I am. I am Muhammad Bello Turji.

We make demands on the government, and if the government listens and changes its ways, by Allah, there will be peace. But if the government refuses, then by Allah, you know who I am. I am Bello Turji.

I am here to send a message to those who have turned our lives in Nigeria into dust. They keep killing us, and they keep arguing among themselves, blaming one another for what is happening.

I listened to the confession of Musa Kamarawa, who does not know what he is doing. This same Musa is claiming he has evidence, especially after Matawalle sued the cleric Murtala Asada.

Musa Kamarawa, by your own words you have now admitted that you are a terrorist like us. Yes, I agree that the Zamfara State Government under Matawalle asked you to act as an intermediary between us and the government in order to negotiate peace. But about three percent of what you are saying is a lie.

You claimed that we came to the Government House and that Matawalle gave me ₦30 million. I swear by Allah, since the day I was born, Matawalle has never given me even ₦5 million. I am not here to defend Matawalle.

In this world, the person I hate most is Matawalle. During his tenure as governor, there was a day when we buried 70 people - men, women, and children - killed by a bomb blast. It was also during his tenure that my father was unjustly arrested and sent to prison. You know this very well. So tell me, how can I love Matawalle?

However, I will not allow you to use my name to defame someone or lie against anyone. Yes, during Matawalle’s era, negotiations took place. Anything you say, I can defend myself alongside the late Kachalla Halilu, who is no longer alive.

Musa, you are a hypocrite. You claimed Matawalle gave us ₦30 million - were you the one who held the money? I am a witness. Morsidi and I went to see Matawalle, but he did not give me even ₦3 million. I swear to Allah.

You also spoke about dusa. The dusa was given after negotiations, when we agreed to stop killing and the government also agreed to stop killing us. Your committee was given the responsibility to buy the dusa, at ₦650,000 per bag.

Musa, you do not fear Allah. You are a bad person. Even if Matawalle is killed today and only you are left, you will not live forever. Fear Allah, Musa Kamarawa. Fear Allah.

If terrorists are truly what the authorities are looking for, then they should arrest your godfathers - the former governor of Sokoto State and Yarima. We have heard that what is happening in Zamfara and Sokoto began with them. Were they not the ones who destroyed Fulani houses? Were they not the ones who created local vigilante groups to kill Fulani people?

Musa Kamarawa, you know me and I know you. The house you live in, in Isa Local Government - about one kilometre away - was it not your godfather who bought Fulani settlements and cleared them? Yet you still ask who brought trouble to Zamfara? Your godfathers are the source.

Uchechi Sandra Nnenne, 22, married Iwuchukwu Chukwuebuka Bobby, 29, on Jan. 4, 2025, and by Jan. 6, 2025, the marriage was over.

Sandra gave reasons for this, including that he lied about many things, borrowed money from her and also tried to borrow millions from her parents. She added that her family largely sponsored the wedding with N7million.

They shared with us audio recordings, purportedly of Chukwuebuka, aka Bobby, begging Sandra's father for forgiveness for cheating on his child with multiple women, including with one of her friends.

They also shared screenshots of messages Bobby sent to their mother and to Sandra's sisters, begging for forgiveness for cheating on Sandra while asking them to beg her not to end the marriage.

Another screenshot purportedly shows him attempting to strike up a relationship with another woman and when she asked if he wasn't married, he claimed the marriage ended due to genotype issues, claiming they were both AS, even though Sandra is AA.

Eventually, when he saw Sandra had resolved to walk away, he allegedly began a smear campaign against her and changed the genotype incompatibility story.

More to come, including voice notes purportedly of Bobby admitting he cheated and begging for forgiveness, and a reconciliation with Sandra.

Now that the man Nigerians admire and trust, General Musa, has been appointed Minister of Defence, one uncomfortable question refuses to leave my mind:

Will he truly be able to work with the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle?

Before anyone answers that, let us remind ourselves who Oga Bello really is.

In 2021, when he was still Governor of Zamfara State, he boldly declared in a now-viral interview:
“Not all bandits are criminals.”
According to him, bandits only became violent because vigilante groups had cheated them.

But that is not even the most troubling part.

In November 2025, one of his former senior aides granted an explosive interview, alleging that Matawalle supplied 36 brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicles to notorious bandit commanders. Not only that, the aide claimed he maintained communication with these commanders even after becoming Minister.

And then came the most shocking accusation of all.

His successor, Governor Dauda Lawal, publicly accused Matawalle of harboring bandit leaders inside the Government House and diverting the resources of the state to enable banditry. He even went further to call for Matawalle’s removal from the Defence Ministry if the Federal Government is truly serious about ending terrorism and banditry.

So I ask again

General Musa may be ready to fight for Nigeria
but is everyone around him ready to fight the same enemy?

And how exactly are these appointments made without any background checks whatsoever?

This leads to the question I keep asking: can we truly separate our government from the terrorists killing us?

Ex-Jigawa Lawmaker Jailed Over ₦5 Million Fraud.

A former lawmaker in Jigawa State, Hon. Shu’ibu Kashim Dila, has been convicted and sentenced for offences bordering on conspiracy, breach of trust, and cheating after a six-month trial at the Chief Magistrate Court II in Dutse.

Dila, who hails from Malam Madori Local Government Area, was found guilty by Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu after the Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPCACC) brought charges against him.

According to the Commission’s spokesperson, Yusuf Suleiman, the case was triggered by a petition filed on February 17, 2025, by Aisha Yusuf of Hadejia Local Government.

She accused Dila, working in concert with his wife, of deceitfully obtaining ₦5 million from her with a written agreement that the money would be repaid within a month.

When the deadline passed, the defendant allegedly sent his wife away to an unknown location to avoid honouring the agreement.

Following an investigation, the Commission said Dila confessed to the act, and evidence showed clear intent to defraud.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge.

During the trial, the prosecution team, led by Barrister Zubairu Haladu, called three witnesses and presented two exhibits. The defence, on the other hand, produced two witnesses but offered no exhibits.

Married man kills lover for cheating on him in Plateau.

A 51-year-old married man identified as Moses Abraham, has been arrested by the police in Jos, Plateau State, for beating his lover to death after catching her with another man.

The incident which reportedly happened on Friday, occurred in the Legislative Quarters area of Jos, the state capital, when Abraham, a long distance tanker driver, went to visit the deceased whose name was given as Cecilia, to spend the night with her only to meet another man in the apartment he rented for her.

According to an eyewitness who live in the same neighbourhood as the deceased, following the discovery of another man in his lover’s apartment, Abraham was said to have left and gone/to a nearby bar where he waited for the man to leave while taking some alcoholic liquors.

The eyewitness said late in the night, the suspect, a father of five, went back to Cecilia’s apartment, locked the door and gave her the beating of her life, hitting her head on the wall several times, before finally using a stone to crush her skull.

“From what we know, the man lives in Bidi-Bidi and is married with four children. The late woman, Cecilia, is separated from her husband and it was Abraham that rented the apartment for her while she runs a salon nearby,” the neighbour said.

“What happened that led to the death of Cecilia, according to what Abraham said, was that he came to her place without informing her because he was told she used to bring home other men whenever he was out of town because he is a long distance tanker driver.

“So on that Friday, he came and met a man in her apartment which caused the fight which ultimately led to her demise,” he stated.

He added that after killing Cecilia, Abraham went to the nearby Nasarawa-Gwom police station to report the murder and turn himself in. He then led the police to Cecilia’s apartment where the corpse was evacuated and taken to a mortuary while Abraham was taken into custody.

Over 6,400 Candidates At Risk As JAMB Panel Submits UTME Malpractice Report

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says its Special Committee on Examination Infractions will submit its final report today, September 8, 2025, amid ongoing controversies over widespread cheating in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The committee, chaired by Dr. Jake Epelle, was set up in August to probe 6,458 withheld results linked to impersonation, AI-assisted cheating, and server hacking during the April–May exams.

If found guilty, candidates risk cancellation of results, disqualification from future exams, or prosecution. Education stakeholders say the report could reshape Nigeria’s exam system, as JAMB faces pressure to balance sanctions with fairness to innocent candidates.

Five Cheat Death In Lagos Road Crashes.

Two individuals sustained serious injuries while three others were rescued unhurt in separate road crashes over the weekend in the Mile 2 and Surulere areas of Lagos State.

It took timely interventions of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to rescue victims.

According to a statement on Sunday by LASTMA’s spokesperson, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the first accident occurred at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, where a Toyota Camry crashed into a stationary Scania truck.

The impact left the Camry driver and a passenger seriously injured.

He said emergency responders from LASTMA arrived at the scene quickly and extricated both victims, who were later rushed to Ademola Hospital, opposite the Ijanikin Police Station, for immediate medical attention.

Adebayo stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the Camry driver was travelling at excessive speed, lost control, and rammed into the parked truck.

The driver of the stationary vehicle was taken into custody by LASTMA officials, while police officers from the Ijanikin Division provided necessary security support at the scene.

WAEC Under Fire: Lagos NUT Accuses Exam Body of Knowing About Question Leak Sites

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos Wing has accused the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of being partly responsible for malpractice in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), alleging the body is aware of websites where exam questions are leaked.

WAEC, which recently released the 2025 WASSCE results, had blamed widespread failure on its strict anti-malpractice measures, claiming it detected cheating during script marking.

But Akintoye Hassan, Lagos NUT Chairman, told Channels Television’s The Morning Brief that WAEC’s stance was hypocritical.

Girlfriend Stabs Lover To Death Over Alleged Infidelity In Ondo.

A 25-year-old man, Micheal Ikuedowoni has been stabbed to death by his girlfriend identified as Augustina Mowari, in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State.

Augustina was said to have stabbed his boyfriend to death following a dispute over alleged infidelity during the weekend.

The duo, reportedly living together in a single room were also said to always engage in persistent dispute over trust and suspected infidelity.

A source who preferred anonymity told LEADERSHIP that the misunderstanding between the lovers escalated into violent altercation.

The source, who was close to them, said, “Both of them had been having issues. The lady accused Michael of cheating on her with another woman, which led to a heated argument. In the course of the fight, she brought out a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the leg.”

The source further narrated that the deceased was initially taken to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged after being administered with injections and prescribed medication.

“After being discharged, his condition deteriorated at home. His leg became swollen, and he was rushed back to the hospital on Sunday night. Unfortunately, he passed away despite the doctors’ efforts to save him,” the source narrated.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident.

Ayanlade said the suspect had been arrested and currently in custody.

A 45-year-old man, Ismail Oreniwon, is battling for survival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after he was brutally attacked and thrown off a pedestrian bridge by suspected hoodlums in Mushin, Lagos.

It was that Atuh was arrested in May 2022 alongside two other Nigerian nationals, Samuel Aniagor and Charles Pius Chukwuebuka, for allegedly cheating over 1,000 people of several crores of rupees in eight years via matrimonial sites and social media platforms.

Denying bail to Atuh on July 10, 2025, Justice Shalinder Kaur, reasoned that “the allegations against the petitioner are grave, both in terms of the modus operandi employed and the scale of the financial and digital fraud allegedly perpetrated.”

The accused, Atuh, was booked for cheating in March 2022 by the Cyber Central District police station in New Delhi following a complaint by a woman who alleged that she was cheated of Rs 55,900 by an individual who had identified himself as ‘Dr Ankit Verma’, a Canada resident, on the matrimonial website Sangam.com.

According to the complainant, in December 2021, she received a message that “Ankit Verma” had arrived at Delhi Airport from Canada and had been detained by Customs officials for carrying excessive foreign currency, and also received a call from an individual impersonating a Customs official, demanding a penalty of Rs 55,900.

The complainant transferred the amount in two instalments the same day. A second demand was then made for Rs 1.5 lakh for “clearance from the Ministry of Finance,” following which the complainant suspected foul play and lodged a formal complaint.

Atuh, who entered India in 2020 on student visa, was arrested in the case in May 2022 from Greater Noida, the police said. He allegedly admitted to his involvement.

The police probe later found that Atuh and two other accused operated using 26 bank accounts, 15 mobile phones, 20 SIM cards, two laptops, and four dongle devices. The police had also seized Rs 1.95 lakh in cash, and approximately Rs 4 lakh was frozen in various bank accounts.

Justice Amina Bello of the Kaduna State High Court, sitting in Kaduna State has convicted and sentenced one Zeal Abraham to jail for fraud.

Abraham was prosecuted by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a one-count charge that bordered on impersonation and cheating to the tune of $200 (Two Hundred Dollars).

The charge reads: "That you Zeal Abraham ( a.k.a Chris Mitchell)(m), sometime in 2025 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, cheated one Laura Moss of the total sum of $200 USD (Two Hundred United States Dollars only), when you pretended to be Chris Mitchell; a musician on 'Zangi' (an online social media application), which you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 of the Kaduna Penal Code Law of 2017 and punishable under Section 309 of the same law."

He pleaded "guilty" following which the prosecution counsel, M.E Eimonye urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Bello, thereafter, convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment or to pay N400,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira) fine. In addition, he forfeited a Samsung G9355 mobile phone, being the tool of his crime and the sum of $200.00USD (Two Hundred United States Dollars), being the proceeds of his crime to the federal government.

The convict was among those arrested by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on Sabo, Post Office Road, following credible intelligence that exposed their fraudulent internet activities.
