JUST IN: NCAA Orders Passengers To Switch Off Phones During Flights
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed that all passengers must switch off mobile phones and portable electronic devices during takeoff and landing.
NCAA Director General, Chris Najomo, announced the new rule at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, citing recent clashes between airline staff and passengers, including a heated incident involving Comfort Emmanson and an Ibom Air flight attendant.
Najomo said the directive ends the inconsistency of different airlines applying different rules, stressing that “nothing like flight mode any longer.” Airlines are to update their operations manuals and submit them to NCAA for approval.
He added that while future reviews may be considered as technology improves, passengers must comply with crew instructions at all times.
