US Condemns Mass Abductions in Niger and Kebbi, Urges Nigeria to Protect Christians

The United States has condemned the recent mass kidnappings of students and teachers in Niger and Kebbi states, describing the incidents as “unacceptable” and urging the Nigerian government to act decisively. Over 300 students and staff were abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, while 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.

The U.S. Bureau of African Affairs called for the immediate apprehension of the perpetrators and stronger protection for Christian communities and schools. Meanwhile, 50 pupils from St. Mary’s Catholic School have reportedly escaped and reunited with their families, but more than 250 students and 12 staff remain in captivity. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State has urged continued prayers for the safe return of the remaining victims.
