• NSCDC Commends Volunteer Who Returned Over N20 Million Forgotten in Tricycle.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has praised one of its volunteers in Kano, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for returning more than N20 million forgotten by a co-passenger in a commercial tricycle, describing his action as “a rare display of honesty, integrity and professionalism.”

ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, NSCDC Commander of Zone 12, made the commendation on Friday in Kano while presenting a letter of recognition to Abdullahi.

According to the commander, Abdullahi discovered the money after a co-passenger, identified as Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina State, mistakenly left the bag behind while alighting. He explained that Abdullahi used the last dialed number on Mustafa’s phone—after lending him the device earlier—to trace and contact the rightful owner.

Abiodun-Taiwo noted that it is highly unusual to find someone willing to return such a large sum, especially amid the current economic hardships.

He further emphasized that Abdullahi is not even a regular NSCDC staff member but a volunteer who reportedly did not have up to N20,000 in his own account, yet chose to act with integrity.

He said the command verified the incident and subsequently briefed the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who directed that Abdullahi be celebrated as a model of honesty within the corps.

“This young man is a good ambassador of his family, the NSCDC, and Nigeria at large. If this were something negative, social media would have been awash with it. Positive deeds like this deserve equal publicity,” Abiodun-Taiwo stated.

He urged the public to emulate Abdullahi’s sincerity, stressing that moral values remain important regardless of economic challenges. “It pays to be honest. If he had taken the money, he wouldn’t enjoy peace today. Parents should train their children well, and young people should uphold such values,” he added.

The commander also assured that Abdullahi would be “handsomely rewarded” for his exemplary conduct.

  • President Tinubu declares state of emergency on nigeria’s security training institutions.

President bola tinubu has declared a state of emergency on nigeria’s security training facilities, describing their poor state as a threat to the efficiency of the nation’s internal security agencies.

The announcement covers institutions under the nigeria police force (npf), the nigeria security and civil defence corps (nscdc), and other agencies. the development was confirmed by enugu governor peter mbah, who heads the nec ad-hoc committee on security training reforms.

During an inspection in lagos, mbah said the president’s directive followed his october 23 approval for a total overhaul of police and civil defence training centres. “the president recognized the urgent need to restore pride, professionalism, and confidence among our security personnel,” mbah stated.

He noted that the committee, which has 30 days to submit its report, divided into two teams — one led by nasarawa governor abdullahi sule to inspect institutions in the north, and another led by himself in the south. according to him, consultants are assessing what needs to be rebuilt, re-equipped, and modernized.

Mbah explained that the move would establish an intervention fund for rebuilding and digital transformation, adding that tinubu’s approval of 30,000 new police recruits required proper training infrastructure. “we cannot train a 21st-century force using 20th-century systems,” he said, emphasizing the need for digital skills in ai, robotics, and mechatronics.

He stressed that the initiative was proactive and not in reaction to any external comment. “this directive was issued before recent foreign remarks. the president is simply addressing decades of neglect,” he clarified.

Governor dapo abiodun, former igp alkali usman baba, and aig olatunji disu, who oversees the spu, affirmed that the committee’s findings will guide the next phase of comprehensive reforms across nigeria’s security training institutions.

  • “We Won’t Pay Ransom or Negotiate with Bandits” — Niger Governor Bago Declares, Orders Statewide Mining Ban.

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has vowed that his administration will neither negotiate with bandits nor pay ransom for kidnapped victims, insisting that such actions only empower criminals and fuel insecurity across the state.

Bago made the declaration during a condolence visit to residents of Rijau and Magama Local Government Areas, where several communities were recently attacked by bandits in the Kontagora axis.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, the governor said Niger State had reached a critical point that demands collective resistance from its people. He warned that ransom payments would only commercialise kidn+pping and make the cr+me more lucrative.

“I will not negotiate with bandits. I will not pay ransom. The moment we start paying, they will open shop on our heads and keep kidnapping people,” Bago said. “This is a war situation, and we must all rise to defend ourselves. The constitution empowers us to protect lives and property, and we will not back down.”

In addition, Governor Bago declared a total ban on mining activities across Niger State’s Zone C, which includes Magama, Kontagora, Rijau, Wushishi, Mariga, Borgu, Mashegu, and Agwara LGAs. He linked illegal mining to the rising wave of insecurity, alleging that many miners operate freely in forest zones that are unsafe for residents.

“It is suspicious that miners can enter the forests freely, yet the bandits don’t touch them,” he stated, directing the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to arrest anyone caught engaging in mining activities.

  • #FreeNnamdiKanu: APC Came To Power Through Protests, Now Scared Of Protests – Wabara Fumes.

Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has called for the immediate release of all protesters arrested in Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in Abuja.

Speaking via a statement on Tuesday, Wabara condemned the action of some security operatives who fired teargas canisters at peaceful protesters.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to call the security operatives to order, describing the intimidation and arrest of peaceful protesters as “a serious dent on Nigeria’s global image.”

The elder statesman also frowned at the alleged manhandling of a journalist covering the protest whose camera was reportedly broken by some overzealous security operatives.

According to the former Senate President, the arrest of Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor; among others, will only aggravate the already tensed situation in the South East.

Senator Wabara who argued that “it is the fundamental right of citizens to hold peaceful protest”, said the police are required to provide protection for protesters, and not to clamp down on them.

Citing the ongoing ‘No King Protest’ involving about 7 million people in the United States of America, “where there are no incidents of molestation or brutality”, Senator Wabara challenged the Nigeria security operatives to learn from their US counterparts.

The former Senate President accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led, federal government which he said, “is a product of protests”, of using intimidation and brute force against dissenting voices.

  • Tinubu Breaks Decades of Career Stagnation in Paramilitary Services – Interior Minister

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ending decades of career stagnation within Nigeria’s paramilitary services through reforms anchored on merit, welfare, and transparency.

Speaking in Abuja during the decoration of newly appointed senior officers across the four agencies under the ministry — the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Federal Fire Service (FFS) — the minister said the promotions reflected competence and integrity.

According to him, the new ranks, which include Deputy Comptroller Generals, Deputy Controller Generals, and Deputy Commandant Generals, were not merely promotions but presidential appointments based on performance and fairness.

“Your appointment is not courtesy. If you are good enough to be a DCG, then you are good enough to be a CG,” Tunji-Ojo emphasized.

He revealed that the officers’ examinations were independently conducted by the National Army Resource Centre and later ratified by the appropriate board. While federal character was applied to ensure inclusiveness, merit and seniority remained the guiding principles.

The minister commended President Tinubu for reforms that have restored dignity to the services, noting that more than 52,000 officers have been promoted in just two years, reversing years of irregular promotions that forced many competent officers into premature retirement.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted welfare improvements, including increased salaries, peculiar allowances, eradication of career stagnation, and approval of life pensions for retired DCGs and CGs.

He also tasked the agencies with renewed responsibility:

Immigration Service – secure and strengthen border governance.

Correctional Service – transform prisons into centres of rehabilitation.

Fire Service – evolve into a frontline rescue agency.

NSCDC – safeguard critical national assets.

“The time to rise to your responsibility is not tomorrow. It began yesterday. Be catalysts of change and show that the government did not make a mistake in entrusting you with these mandates,” he urged.

The minister also underscored the fairness of the promotion system, recalling how a female officer narrowly missed promotion in the past by just 0.25 marks, but has now been elevated based on merit.

Representing the newly decorated officers, Dr. Ngozi Odikpo expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his trust and vision, pledging that they would serve Nigeria with dedication, discipline, and integrity.

She also lauded the Minister of Interior for his leadership and the CGs of the various services for their mentorship, assuring Nigerians that the new appointees would uphold the highest standards of service.

  • NSCDC Shuts Down ₦1.43 Trillion Illegal Lithium Mine In Kebbi Linked To Foreign Collusion

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sealed an illegal lithium mining site in Kebbi State over an alleged ₦1.43 trillion mineral theft — in what may be one of the biggest mining frauds in Nigeria’s history.

The site, operated by Three Crown Mines Ltd, was shut down following a Federal High Court order. Authorities revealed that the company, in collusion with foreign nationals, illegally extracted lithium far beyond their licensed limits, breaching both the 2007 Minerals and Mining Act and 2011 Mining Regulations.

Despite a formal summons, the company’s directors snubbed investigators, citing “inconvenience,” a move strongly condemned by NSCDC officials. The Corps warned of zero tolerance going forward.

The crackdown aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and underscores the strategic importance of lithium in Nigeria’s economic future — and the urgent need to curb mineral looting.

Auchi Diocese Condemns Deadly Attack on Seminary, Demands Urgent Rescue of Abducted Students

The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has strongly condemned the recent violent attack on the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi, Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, calling for immediate government intervention to secure the release of three abducted seminarians.

The attack, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, saw gunmen storm the seminary, killing an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and injuring a local vigilante member, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The Director of Social Communications for the diocese, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, described the incident as “deeply saddening,” noting that this marks the second attack on the seminary within ten months.

“Ten months ago, a priest was kidnapped from this same school. Now, three seminarians have been taken, and a security officer has been killed. We are devastated,” Fr. Egielewa said.

He called on the federal, state, and local governments to rise to their responsibility of protecting Catholic institutions and religious communities in the region.

“We urge the government to act urgently. Our institutions, staff, and students are no longer safe. We demand firm and immediate action to prevent further bloodshed,” he added.

As of the time of reporting, the identities of the abducted seminarians remain undisclosed, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident adds to the growing wave of kidnappings and violent attacks targeting religious institutions and schools across Nigeria, prompting fresh calls for decisive security reforms. Despite repeated promises by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to curb these threats, the country continues to grapple with widespread insecurity and rising fear among its citizens.

  • NSCDC Officers Allegedly Assault Abuja-Bound Travelers in Osun Over “VVIP Escort”

In a disturbing incident that has sparked outrage, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) allegedly assaulted a group of travelers along the Ikire axis of Osun State on Tuesday morning, July 9, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the group was returning to Abuja from Abeokuta when they were allegedly targeted by a convoy of NSCDC officers who accused them of following too closely behind what was described as a “VVIP escort.”

Trouble reportedly began when the NSCDC vehicle, allegedly driving recklessly, nearly ran the travelers’ Lexus SUV off the road into nearby bushes. Upon catching up with the convoy to call attention to the dangerous maneuver, the officers descended from their vehicle and began physically assaulting the occupants of the Lexus.

“All we did was try to alert them to what they had done,” one of the victims said. “But instead of acknowledging their reckless driving, they said we had no right to drive behind them. Next thing, they started beating everyone with their rifles.”

The assault reportedly continued until passersby and motorists along the expressway intervened. Despite the intervention, the damage had already been done—several occupants sustained visible injuries, with one victim currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The driver of the vehicle also sought medical attention upon arriving at his destination.

Witnesses say the NSCDC convoy eventually diverted towards the Osogbo bridge and left the scene without offering assistance or taking responsibility.
