IRAN SENDS URGENT MESSAGE TO END WAR
According to reports by The Telegraph on Monday, June 16, Iran is urgently seeking to de-escalate its growing conflict with Israel and has expressed willingness to resume nuclear negotiations provided the United States refrains from joining Israel’s military campaign, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Multiple diplomatic sources told The Wall Street Journal that Tehran has been sending a flurry of backchannel messages to both Washington and Tel Aviv in recent days. These communications, described as “urgent,” are part of an apparent effort by Iran to prevent the situation from spiraling into a full-scale regional war.
According to the report, Iranian officials are signaling a readiness to return to the negotiating table to discuss limitations on its nuclear programme. However, this willingness hinges on one major condition: that the United States does not directly involve itself in Israel’s ongoing military strikes on Iranian targets.
The messages also included warnings to Israel, urging restraint and arguing that it would be in the interests of both nations to avoid further escalation. Tehran reportedly emphasized that continued hostilities would be mutually destructive and urged dialogue as a path to stability.
The developments come as tensions between Iran and Israel have reached new heights following Israel’s recent wave of airstrikes targeting Iranian military facilities, nuclear infrastructure, and key government buildings, including the national broadcaster, which was struck during a live broadcast.
In response, Iran has launched multiple retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory since Friday, resulting in scores of casualties and widespread damage. Israeli authorities have reported at least 24 deaths and hundreds of injuries in recent days.
Despite the violence, international pressure for de-escalation is mounting. Diplomatic efforts are now underway in Europe and the Gulf to mediate between the two adversaries and prevent a broader conflict from erupting.
While the United States has not directly commented on the reported messages, President Donald Trump stated earlier this week that Iran is now signaling a desire to talk, but warned that time is running out.
