In the trending clip shared by TikTok user @absurants, the man could be seen filming as the new student unloaded his supplies.

The items included tubers of yam, a bucket of onions, a bag of rice, a gallon of groundnut oil, and several other foodstuffs neatly packed into his hostel room.

According to the poster, the sight was so overwhelming that he couldn’t resist recording the moment.

He jokingly noted that the fresher “really meant business” and was clearly not ready to go hungry while on campus.

“Omo, This Fresher No Dey Play”
The video’s caption read: “Omo, this fresher really mean business o. So this freshers no dey play o.”

  • Nigerian Senate passes bill imposing life imprisonment for child defilement no option if fine.

In a landmark move to curb rising cases of sexual violence, lawmakers push for harsher penalties — as a Lagos court simultaneously hands life sentence to a man for raping a 7-year-old girl.

    Senate President
The Nigerian Senate is currently trending after passing a tougher bill prescribing life imprisonment for anyone convicted of defiling a minor, with no option of fine, in a bid to combat the alarming rise in child sexual abuse across the country.

The new amendment, which replaces the existing provisions of the Criminal Code Act and the Penal Code, was strongly championed by Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), who insisted that offenders deserve nothing less than life imprisonment — and even hinted that capital punishment would have been more fitting.

Initially, the bill proposed a 20-year jail term for paedophiles. However, Senator Aliero called for a stiffer sentence, arguing that lenient laws have failed to deter offenders.

Under the new proposal Defilement of a minor now carries life imprisonment — without an option of fine. Rape now carries a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment. The law updates the Criminal Code Act (Section 218), which previously prescribed 13 years to life imprisonment, and Section 221, which allowed 2 years for unlawful carnal knowledge of minors. The Penal Code (Section 283), applicable in Northern Nigeria, which carried 14 years to life imprisonment or fine, will also be updated.

In Sharia-compliant states, penalties remain even more severe — extending to death or life imprisonment, depending on interpretation and local enforcement.

Coincidentally, on the same day as the Senate’s deliberation, a Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) Court in Oshodi, Lagos, sentenced a 25-year-old graphic designer to life imprisonment for raping a 7-year-old girl in 2020.

According to court records, the convict — a neighbour of the victim’s family in a “face-me-I-face-you” compound — repeatedly assaulted the minor when her parents were away, forcing himself on her in the kitchen and bathroom.
The judgement has been widely commended, though some Nigerians believe that life imprisonment is still not harsh enough, with growing calls for chemical castration or death penalty for child rapists.
Others are also urging lawmakers to criminalise false rape accusations, warning that misuse of the law could undermine justice for real victims.

This moves by the Nigerian Senate marks one of the strongest legislative actions yet in the fight against sexual violence and child exploitation.
If fully enacted and enforced, it could reshape how rape and child defilement cases are prosecuted nationwide — potentially closing loopholes that have long allowed offenders to escape justice.

  • Drama As Fan Sprays 9ice With ₦5 Notes.

A viral video features a man spraying Nigerian musician 9ice with ₦5 notes during a live performance.
The incident has elicited mixed reactions from viewers, ranging from shock to amusement.
The clip gained popularity over the weekend, highlighting the unusual act of tossing money at a performer.

A trending video on social media has stirred mixed reactions after a man was captured spraying veteran Nigerian musician 9ice with ₦5 notes during a live performance.

The short clip, which began circulating over the weekend, shows the man gleefully tossing the small denomination notes at the singer as onlookers reacted with shock and amusement.

The incident reportedly took place at a local event where 9ice was performing one of his popular tracks. While some guests found the act entertaining, others condemned it as “disrespectful” to a music icon who has contributed immensely to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Online users have since taken sides. One viewer asked, “Na insult?” while another humorously wondered, “₦5 notes still dey?” A section of the audience argued that it was a clear show of disregard, insisting that a legend like 9ice deserved better treatment.

However, several commenters defended the man, suggesting he merely sprayed what he could afford. One wrote, “Na wetin him get, him spray.” Another added jokingly, “He go later press money; make him enjoy small cruise first.”

The viral moment has reignited discussions about the culture of money spraying in Nigeria a long-standing tradition that’s often seen as a sign of appreciation. While many believe that any amount given in good faith should be accepted, others argue that using very low denominations can come off as an insult, especially to established entertainers.

As the video continues to circulate, social media remains divided torn between viewing the act as light-hearted fun or a slight against one of Nigeria’s respected musical figures.

  • “Seyi Tinubu Didn’t Add My Video Because of My English!” — Lege Miami Speaks Out on Birthday Tribute Snub

Popular Nigerian actor and matchmaker, Lege Miami, whose real name is Adams Kehinde, has finally addressed his absence from the viral birthday tribute video made for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The trending tribute, which featured some of Nigeria’s biggest personalities — including Burna Boy, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Olamide Badoo — left fans wondering why Lege, a self-proclaimed close associate of Seyi, was not included.

Many social media users teased Lege Miami over the omission, prompting the actor to respond. In a new video, Lege revealed that his “poor English” was the reason his clip didn’t make it into the final cut.

“Because I cannot speak good English, Seyi did not add my video to the post,” he said jokingly, adding that people should not blame Seyi for the decision.

However, reactions flooded social media, with some fans disagreeing with Lege’s explanation.

    @mz_lara commented:

“I don’t think it’s because you can’t speak English. Even market women and Amala sellers spoke Yoruba in the video. You need to stop being controversial; that’s why people avoid associating with you.”

    @kenny_alert added:

“Your problem is not bad English but low self-esteem. Let that go, and you’ll realize you’re fine the way you are.”

While some mocked his grammar — quoting his line “Seyi is not added my video” — others defended him, calling him a loyal friend who always stands by Seyi Tinubu.

    One fan wrote:

“A true friend will love you no matter how dull you are. Seyi should appreciate Lege — he’s always had his back.”

Despite the teasing, Lege Miami took the criticism in stride, laughing off the remarks and keeping his trademark humor alive.

Presidential Pardon to Murder Convict Miriam Sanda — Nigerians React with Outrage!

Nigeria’s social media space has erupted with outrage and disbelief following the presidential pardon granted to Miriam Sanda, the woman convicted in 2017 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved clemency for 175 inmates, including Sanda, in a move that has reignited debate about fairness, justice, and political influence in Nigeria’s legal system.

Appearing on Arise TV’s “What’s Trending,” broadcaster Rufai Oseni condemned the decision, calling it “a political mistake that reopens old wounds.”

“Tinubu should stop selling or gifting out pardons like recharge cards,” Rufai declared. “These decisions hurt families and destroy faith in the justice system. A country that cannot uphold justice cannot progress.”

Members of Bilyaminu Bello’s family expressed deep pain and disappointment. A spokesperson, Bello Muhammad, described the pardon as “the worst injustice any family could face,” lamenting that the clemency has “reopened the trauma of losing a loved one to violence.”

On the other hand, both Miriam Sanda’s father and her late husband’s father defended the pardon, claiming that the plea for mercy began in 2019 and was meant to promote forgiveness and ensure the wellbeing of the couple’s two children.

However, public reaction has largely been critical. Many Nigerians argue that pardoning a convicted murderer while the country continues to battle insecurity, corruption, and lawlessness sends “a dangerous message.”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also criticized the decision, calling it “reckless and indefensible,” and accusing the presidency of weakening Nigeria’s moral foundation.

As the debate intensifies, the country appears sharply divided — between those advocating forgiveness and those demanding justice. For many, the question now is whether Nigeria’s justice system still upholds accountability or if, as Rufai Oseni warned, “presidential pardons have become another political gift.”

Nigerian socialite Shina Peller has gone viral after surprising a police officer with ₦200,000 just because the officer gave him ₦500.

The incident, which was captured in a trending clip, showed Peller jokingly asking the officer if he could spare him some money.

The officer, identified as Mr Isaac, reached for his pocket and handed Peller a ₦500 note, telling him it was from the heart.

Peller, visibly touched by the rare gesture, praised him for breaking stereotypes about police officers only collecting bribes.

Moments later, Peller asked Mr Isaac to call out his account number. To the amazement of everyone present, he credited him with ₦200,000 instantly, stressing that good officers also deserve recognition.

    Rewarding kindness

  • 2026 WCQ: NFF Blames Dessers, Troost-Ekong For Super Eagles’ Draw With South Africa

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has criticised Cyriel Dessers and captain William Troost-Ekong following the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with South Africa in Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Needing a win to boost their qualification chances, Nigeria fell behind in the 25th minute when Troost-Ekong turned the ball into his own net. Calvin Bassey restored parity before halftime with a powerful header.

In a post-match statement, NFF Director of Communications, Dr Ademola Olajire, faulted Dessers’ display, describing it as ineffective.

“Cyriel Dessers, who had an unimpressive game in Uyo where he was substituted after coming on, did not fare any better. He was too slow to latch onto passes, failed to win aerial duels and offered little to spark the Nigerian att+ck,” the statement read.

Troost-Ekong also came under f+re for his costly error.

“The Super Eagles’ fighting spirit was diminished after team captain William Ekong inadvertently swept the ball into his own net in the 25th minute, wrong-footing Stanley Nwabali and handing the Bafana Bafana the lead and momentum,” the NFF added.

  • Tinubu Orders Tighter Oversight of Crypto Transctons and Digital Payments

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other regulators to intensify monitoring of cryptocurrency and digital payment activities.

Speaking through Finance Minister Wale Edun at the 18th Annual Banking and Finance Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, Tinubu noted that the rapid adoption of stablecoins and digital currencies outside traditional banks poses challenges.

“There is a digital revolution. Many people now make payments without using the banking system. To this end, I have directed capital market and banking authorities to track this trend while it is still evolving,” he said.

He stressed that digital tools, AI, and open banking are no longer futuristic but essential for Nigeria’s economic growth.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso also revealed that diaspora remittances, now at $600m monthly, could reach $1billion by 2026. CIBN President Prof. Pius Olanrewaju disclosed that since 2024, 16 banks have raised over N2.5 trillion in fresh capital, while private sector credit has surged above N82 trillion, boosting jobs and businesses.
The renewed focus comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing legal battles with Binance Holdings Ltd. The government is demanding over $79.5 billion and ₦231m in damages, along with $2.001 billion in alleged unpaid taxes for 2022 and 2023. The crypto firm and its executives, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, face multiple charges including tax evasion, money laundering, and foreign exchange violations.

The cases, currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja, also seek penalties for tax defaults, interest charges tied to CBN’s lending rate, and other sanctions. Authorities allege Binance concealed operations despite its significant presence in Nigeria.

  • K+dnppers Demand N15m Ransom for Edo Bus Passengers

Abd¥ctors of passengers from an 18-seater New Edo Line bus and a Toyota Camry along the Owan–Auchi Road have reportedly demanded N15 million ransom for each victim still in captivity.

The att+ck occurred on September 5, 2025, when g¥nmen intercepted the vehicles and forced passengers into the bush. The Edo State Police Command later rescued 16 victims, but several others remain held.

Among those still in captivity is Gloria Ikhaghu, who was returning home after her father’s burial in Okpekpe, Etsako East LGA. A family member confirmed that k+dnappers had contacted them.

“We are begging Governor Monday Okpebholo and everyone to help secure Gloria’s release, as we don’t have such money,” the relative said. “We just buried her father; raising N15 million is impossible.”

Police spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu said he was unaware of any ransom demand but assured that security operatives were “still combing the bush” for the victims.

The Owan–Auchi axis has long been a hotspot for abductions and armed att+cks, with criminals exploiting the dense forest terrain. The latest incident has renewed calls for stronger highway security in Edo State.

In 2023 and 2024, frequent k+dappin along the Benin–Auchi and Benin–Ekpoma roads triggered protests from residents, who accused security agencies of failing to adequately protect travellers.
