A suspended member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Gideon Yisa, representing Edu constituency, has accused 21 lawmakers of allegedly swearing an oath to support the governorship ambition of the Speaker, Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, claiming the Assembly has abandoned its constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ilorin, Yisa described his suspension as illegal and politically motivated, alleging that the Assembly has failed to carry out meaningful oversight functions for more than three years despite worsening insecurity and economic challenges across the state. He said the legislature lacks any independent economic or security agenda and merely passes bills brought by the executive without scrutiny.

Yisa further claimed that lawmakers have been largely inactive, alleging that neither the Speaker nor any Assembly delegation has conducted oversight visits to his constituency since the Assembly’s inauguration. According to him, the absence of a legislative agenda has reduced lawmakers to idle activities, which he described as “gossiping,” mostly within the Speaker’s office.

Addressing his suspension, Yisa argued that it violated the Assembly’s rules, stressing that no lawmaker can be arbitrarily suspended by the Speaker. He explained that any allegation against a member must first be investigated by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, and that even proven misconduct does not warrant a three-month suspension, noting that the maximum allowable sanction is 48 hours.

He also dismissed claims that his suspension was linked to a closed-door session, insisting that no such session has been held since the Assembly was inaugurated. Yisa reiterated that the legislature has failed in its oversight role, maintaining that while lawmakers do not execute projects, they are constitutionally mandated to monitor government actions to promote accountability and good governance in Kwara State.

President Tinubu commends Nigeria's Armed Forces for protecting democracy in Benin Republic

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the gallantry of Nigeria's military on Sunday for responding swiftly to the request by the Government of Benin Republic to save its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who struck at dawn today.

Acting on two separate requests from the Government of Benin, President Tinubu first ordered Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to enter the country and take over the airspace to help dislodge the coup plotters from the National TV and a military camp where they had regrouped.

The Republic of Benin, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a Note Verbal, requested immediate Nigerian air support "in view of the urgency and seriousness of the situation and to safeguard the constitutional order, protect national institutions and ensure the security of the population."

In the second request, the authorities in Benin requested the deployment of Nigerian Air Force assets within Beninoise airspace for surveillance and rapid intervention operations under Benin-led coordination.

The Benin government also requested Nigerian ground forces, "strictly for missions approved by the Beninese Command authority in support of the protection of constitutional institutions and the containment of armed Groups."

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said all the requests have been fulfilled, with Nigerian ground forces now in Benin.

"Ours is to comply with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, President Tinubu," he said.

Constitutional order was upended in the Republic of Benin, Nigeria's neighbour, when some soldiers led by Colonel Pascal Tigri announced a coup on Sunday morning. The putschists seized the National TV and claimed they had toppled President Patrice Talon and suspended all democratic institutions.

It took some hours before the government's loyal forces, assisted by Nigeria, took control and flushed out the coup plotters from the National TV.

In his remarks after the restoration of the democratic and constitutional order, President Tinubu saluted the Nigerian armed forces for standing firm as a protector and defender of democracy.

“Today, the Nigerian armed forces stood gallantly as a defender and protector of constitutional order in the Republic of Benin on the invitation of the government. Our armed forces acted within the ambit of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance. They have helped stabilise a neighbouring country and have made us proud of their commitment to sustaining our democratic values and ideals since 1999. Nigeria stands firmly with the government and people of the Republic of Benin."

NIGERIA CONDEMNS ATTEMPTED UNCONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT IN THE REPUBLIC OF BENIN

The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has received with grave concern and unequivocally condemns in the strongest possible terms the attempted forcible seizure of power in our friendly neighbour and brotherly nation, the Republic of Benin in the early hours of Sunday 7th December, 2025.

This act of destabilization represents a direct assault on democracy, constitutional order, and the collective will of the Beninese people, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to peaceful political transitions. Nigeria stands in firm solidarity with the Government and people of the Republic of Benin, and applauds the swift action taken by Beninese authorities to protect its legitimate institutions and preserve the peace.

We commend the courage and professionalism of the Beninese security forces in defending the constitutional order and guaranteeing the safety of the President. Their dedication ensured that the unfortunate attempt to subvert democracy was decisively repelled.

“Soludo Will Soon Join APC”, Orji Kalu Declares, Hints at Major Political Realignment in South East

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North) has disclosed that Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, is expected to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) soon.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Kalu revealed that there have been ongoing interactions between the APC and Governor Soludo as part of strategic political discussions in the South East.

The former Abia governor noted that Soludo shares similar political and developmental ideologies with leading figures in the APC, adding that his policies and governance style in Anambra align closely with the federal government’s reform agenda.

US angry over Nigeria’s rejection of military base, not Christian killings CSO alleges.

A civil society organisation, Grassroot Advocacy for Peace and Good Governance, has claimed that the recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump were not about alleged religious persecution but rather a reaction to Nigeria’s refusal to approve a U.S. military base and deportee resettlement deal.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, the group’s chairman, Usman Muhammed Anache, alleged that Washington had been pressuring Abuja to allow the establishment of a U.S. military base following the withdrawal of American forces from Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.

According to him, Nigeria’s decision to decline the proposal, coupled with its recent alignment with BRICS, the economic bloc led by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, may have further strained relations between the two countries.

“The U.S. is displeased because Nigeria refused its request to set up a military base and to house American deportees. They have now resorted to using religion, knowing how sensitive Nigerians are to faith-related issues,” Anache said.

He commended Nigerian Christian leaders who openly rejected Trump’s claim of “Christian genocide,” noting that terrorist attacks in the country have affected both Muslims and Christians alike.

Anache further praised the Federal Government for what he described as its steadfastness in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and promoting peace across West Africa.

“The divisive tactic of using religion to destabilize Nigeria will never succeed. This has been their plan since independence, but Nigeria has always stood united,” he added.

African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, has cautioned Anambra residents and alleged that they will “suffer” if they reelect Governor Chukwuma Soludo instead of voting for her in the November 8 election.

The Nollywood actress and producer criticized Soludo over the poor condition of roads in Awka, particularly Uche Ekwunife Crescent, which she described as “totally dilapidated.” She accused the governor of neglecting basic infrastructure while constructing a new Government House with “wide, paved roads for himself and his generations.”

Ifemeludike said Soludo’s administration has failed to deliver good governance or quality social amenities, claiming he is only interested in showmanship. “If you miss out, you will suffer for it because Soludo is not ready to provide real leadership,” she said.

In a Facebook post directed at the governor, she asked, “@ccsoludo, why are you afraid to repair the capital city’s bad roads? Awka shouldn’t look so rural and undeveloped. With FAAC, local allocations, and IGR, we should have Dubai/Taiwan-style infrastructure.”

Tunji-Ojo certificate saga: Prove you’re not shielding South-West ministers – Gani to Tinubu.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Taofik Gani, has urged President Bola Tinubu to prove his transparency and fairness by directing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to publicly clear his name over alleged irregularities in his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, record and previous corruption allegations.

Gani made this call in a statement on Wednesday, warning that the growing perception of nepotism and selective justice in the Tinubu administration could undermine public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

He said there are several petitions against Tunji-Ojo, including claims that he absconded during his mandatory NYSC service year but still presented a discharge certificate during his ministerial screening.

“If President Tinubu and his party, the APC, are sincere about fighting corruption, the minister should be directed to clear himself or resign honorably like Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned after allegations of certificate forgery.

“This is where President Tinubu has to prove that he is not shielding South-West ministers in corruption cases,” Gani stated.

Convener of the League for Good Governance, Isaiah Ijele, urged Tinubu to allow the Department of State Services, DSS, to investigate the certificate scandal hung on the minister.

According to information obtained by SaharaReporters, the arrest was ordered by the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Sowore, who was scheduled to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite over what he described as a “bogus and farcical” charge of alleged forgery of a police wireless message, filed under the instruction of the “illegal Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun”, was informed at the court that the judge would not be sitting.

A source disclosed that a police officer approached Sowore, informing him that he was under arrest on the orders of the FCT Commissioner of Police.

Members of his legal team, led by human rights lawyer Tope Temokun, immediately confronted the officers, demanding to know the reason for the sudden arrest. However, the police insisted they were acting on “direct instruction” from the Commissioner and proceeded to escort Sowore into a waiting vehicle.

Sowore, a long-time critic of government policies, is known for leading several pro-democracy and human rights movements across Nigeria.

Shehu Sani Mocks Labour Party Over Outrage at Governor Mbah’s Defection: “You Left Africa to Syria, They Left to Spain”


Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has taken a swipe at critics of Governor Peter Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—especially those from the Labour Party (LP)—accusing them of hypocrisy and selective outrage.

Islamism isn’t aimed at seizing power — Sultan of Sokoto says, stressing that Islam is about promoting good governance in society.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to rise above religious divides and embrace unity in order to build a stronger country.

He made this call in Abuja on Friday during the public presentation of Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor.

The Sultan explained that Islam should not be misconstrued as a quest for political power but rather as a faith built on justice, fairness and good governance. “Islamism is not aimed at seizing power at any particular forum. Islam is after good governance in society,” he stated.

He cited the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, noting that Muslims gave him full support without bias. “President Goodluck Jonathan was President; we gave him 100 per cent support.

Throughout his presidency, nobody said anything negative against him; he knows that, and he is here. So, Islamism is not what you think it is. It is a wrong notion… We’re after good governance,” the monarch said.

The Sultan, regarded as the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, also emphasized that Islam has a clear code of conduct that rejects v+olence and fanaticism. “We have ways and means of life. Anybody coming outside these to say things that he really doesn’t know about is not for Islam because Islam abhors extremism. You cannot be an extremist and then claim to be a good Muslim,” he stressed.

He cautioned Nigerians to be mindful of their words when discussing insecurity, warning that careless statements could further divide the country. Instead, he called for unity, saying: “Let’s come closer as one big family with different backgrounds to forge ahead to make this country a better country, because there is nothing anybody can do.”

According to him, his interventions on governance and national issues are never targeted at individuals but are guided by the conviction that religion must always promote justice, peace and social harmony.
