  • DoJ Document Links Pro-Biafra Groups to U.S. ‘Christian Genocide’ Campaign.

Documents from the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) show that a coalition of pro-Biafra groups is behind the campaign alleging a “Christian genocide in Nigeria,” a narrative that helped prompt former U.S. President Donald Trump to label Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz recently accused the Nigerian government of enabling a “massacre” of Christians, saying in a video on X: “There is no country on earth where Christians are more persecuted than Nigeria.” He claimed Boko Haram & extremist groups have killed over 50,000 Christians since 2009 & destroyed more than 20,000 churches & schools.

DoJ filings under the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) link the campaign to the United States of Biafra, which includes the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).

The filings show that BRGIE’s U.S. representative, Moran Global Strategies, led by former Congressman Jim Moran, has established ties with Cruz’s office.

Documents reviewed by The Guardian reveal that BRGIE members signed a declaration in Lahti, Finland, on December 2, 2024, claiming Nigeria is carrying out a “genocidal onslaught” against Biafrans and Christians. Signatories include diaspora figure Simon Ekpa—now jailed in Finland for torrorism-related offences—Dr Ngozi Orabueze, and Diane Emeh.

While the movement pushes Biafra’s secession, its messaging is tailored to American conservative audiences, arguing that supporting Biafra would counter China’s influence and protect Christians “under siege.” The filings outline organised activities such as fundraising, political statements and diaspora mobilisation.

The documents also mention an internal vote held between February and November 2024, after which the group declared the “Restored Independence of the United States of Biafra,” claiming authority over “40 states.”

Security analysts warn that framing separatist advocacy as evidence of genocide could inflame ethnic tensions and distort international perceptions.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Bolaji Akinyemi has also cautioned that such claims may harm Nigeria’s global reputation.

  • President Tinubu Considers Presidential Task Force to Boost ‘Detty December’ Tourism.

The Federal Executive Council has proposed the creation of a Presidential Task Force on ‘Detty December’ to coordinate Nigeria’s booming end-of-year tourism and entertainment season.

Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, announced the plan after Thursday’s Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. She said the initiative aims to unify federal and state efforts to position Nigeria particularly Lagos as a major global destination during the festive period.

Musawa explained that the Council also approved the adoption of key national tourism brands such as “Naija Season,” developed by the National Council for Arts and Culture. These brands will serve as national catalysts for promoting tourism and creative industries across all 36 states throughout the year.

She revealed that the task force would bring together key ministries and agencies including those in aviation, interior, and power to ensure seamless support for Lagos State, which hosts the highest concentration of December concerts, festivals, and diaspora events.

According to Musawa, the Federal Government’s involvement will strengthen inter-agency collaboration, enhance Nigeria’s global image, and attract private-sector participation in the creative and tourism sectors.

“Detty December,” a popular term describing Nigeria’s festive wave of concerts, fashion shows, nightlife, and cultural events, has become a major driver of the economy, especially in Lagos. The initiative is expected to further expand Nigeria’s soft-power influence, boost tourism revenue, and establish the country as a leading African entertainment hub.

  • Senate Moves to Engage US Lawmakers over Alleged Christian Genocide in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Senate is preparing to open a heated debate on a motion seeking to address what it calls “dangerous misrepresentations” of the country’s security crisis as a campaign of “Christian genocide” — a narrative gaining traction in international circles, particularly in the United States.

The motion, titled “Urgent Need to Correct Misconceptions Regarding the Purported ‘Christian Genocide’ Narrative in Nigeria and International Communities,” is sponsored by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) and co-sponsored by several senior lawmakers, including Senators Sani Musa, Magatakarda Wamako, Ibrahim Bomai, and Ahmed Wadada.

Senators Raise Alarm Over ‘Misleading Narratives’
In the draft motion, Ndume expressed alarm over what he described as a growing wave of misleading claims in both local and foreign media alleging systematic attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

While acknowledging the devastating assaults suffered by Christian communities, the lawmaker stressed that violent attacks have affected citizens of all faiths. He warned that framing the crisis in purely religious terms could inflame sectarian tensions and distort international understanding of Nigeria’s complex security landscape.

According to the motion, Nigeria’s insecurity stems from terrorism, insurgency, banditry, communal conflicts, and criminal violence — all of which have claimed lives across religious, ethnic, and regional lines.

    Fear Over US Designation
The Senate also expressed unease about developments in Washington, where some lawmakers are pushing to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) for alleged religious persecution.

Lawmakers cautioned that such a designation could damage Nigeria’s diplomatic standing and trigger economic consequences. The motion reaffirmed that the Nigerian government is constitutionally obligated to protect the lives and property of all citizens, regardless of their religion or ethnicity.

    Senate’s Strategy: Facts and Diplomacy
To counter the growing international narrative, the Senate is proposing a coordinated communication and diplomatic strategy. Key elements include:

Engaging US lawmakers and diaspora networks through official briefings and fact-based publications.
Releasing verified data and investigative reports to clarify casualty figures and contexts.
Strengthening collaboration between the Senate Committees on Foreign Affairs, National Security, and Information with relevant ministries to shape Nigeria’s international messaging.

Urging local media, civil society, and religious leaders to exercise restraint and accuracy in public statements to avoid stoking sectarian division.
The Senate also called on foreign embassies, international organisations, and media outlets to rely on balanced and credible information, rather than unverified claims, when reporting on religiously sensitive matters in Nigeria.

  • Singer Kizz Daniel Faces Court Sanction Over Missed Show, Accounts Frozen.

Nigerian singer Kizz Daniel, whose real name is Tobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, is facing legal issues.
Recent reports suggest that a court may have ordered the freezing of his personal and business accounts.
The situation indicates potential financial or legal complications for the artist.

“My Dad Was My Best Friend” - Kizz Daniel
Nigerian singer Tobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, appears to be entangled in legal trouble, according to recent reports.

Online documents indicate that a court may have ordered the freezing of both his personal and business accounts.

This development follows a directive for the artist to pay more than €200,000 in damages after allegedly failing to perform at a show despite receiving a $50,000 advance. Further details are still emerging.

Social media user Bankiis has advised event promoters to avoid booking the singer during this period.

    He wrote:
“Promoters are strongly warned against booking ©kizzdaniel. It is a major risk and highly likely to result in loss. From past experience, he has shown a pattern of not showing up for shows, leaving promoters stranded and audiences disappointed. Beyond that, he does not currently have the fanbase or market strength to generate the kind of returns promoters expect.”

  • Tinubu hailed over response to $250m estate demolition.

Nigerians in the diaspora have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for responding to the demolition of the $250 million WIN HOMES Estates along the Lagos-Calabar coal highway construction site.

In a statement jointly signed by Engr Stella Okengwu, Dr Kimberly Stark, Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, Mr Ovie Aweghogho, and Oluwaseun Bamigbola Bovi, on behalf of Nigerians in the diaspora, they said they are happy the federal government has initiated communication channels over the estate demolition.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria initiates a formal communication channel, led by the Honourable Minister of Works, Engineer David Umahi, to engage with diaspora investors impacted by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway realignment.

“Facilitated by the Coalition of Civil Society of Nigeria, this marks a defining moment for dialogue, restoration, and reconciliation in Nigeria’s investment landscape.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister Umahi for their courage and statesmanship in responding to the cries for justice following the demolition of the $250 million Win Homes Estates project in Okun Ajah on October 5, 2024. This gesture signals to the global community that Nigeria is committed to protecting foreign direct investment, particularly from its 50 million-strong diaspora, who remain steadfast development partners.

“The WIN HOMES Estates, a beacon of inclusive development, united Nigerians across ethnicities Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Ijaw, Efik, and others in a shared vision of progress. It created jobs for hundreds of unemployed youth, boosted local businesses, and sourced materials domestically, fostering hope among diaspora investors eager to rebuild Nigeria. However, its demolition without notice, dialogue, or compensation shattered structures and trust, sending shockwaves through global Nigerian communities and contributing to a 30% drop in diaspora real estate investments.

“Let us be clear: our year-long, peaceful, and legal advocacy has never been anti-government. Many of us supported this administration, believing in its promise of Renewed Hope. Our call is for fairness, justice, and the rule of law. We respectfully urge the government to evaluate the demolished properties properly, ensure adequate compensation for WIN HOMES and its investors, and establish a Diaspora Investment Protection Desk to safeguard future projects of this magnitude. Such measures will help reverse decades of capital flight and restore investor confidence.

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has described Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as a city whose contributions to Nigeria’s history cannot be overlooked.

Obi made the remarks on Sunday during a courtesy visit to the Olubadan-designate, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan. He was accompanied by Labour Party leaders and notable Igbo indigenes.

The former governor of Anambra State praised Ibadan’s central role in shaping Nigeria’s socio-economic and political landscape, while commending the contributions of its indigenes both at home and in the diaspora.

“The position of Ibadan in the history of Nigeria cannot be ignored. It is a home to all because of the hospitable nature of its people,” Obi said.

He further lauded Ladoja’s service as a former governor and senator, expressing confidence that his vast experience would enrich his reign as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“Oba Ladoja will enjoy support across the country in his new assignment. On my part, I will provide necessary assistance to ensure his reign is successful,” Obi added.

In his response, the Olubadan-designate expressed gratitude to God, describing his ascension to the throne as another opportunity to serve humanity.

  • Tinubu Orders Tighter Oversight of Crypto Transctons and Digital Payments

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other regulators to intensify monitoring of cryptocurrency and digital payment activities.

Speaking through Finance Minister Wale Edun at the 18th Annual Banking and Finance Conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Abuja, Tinubu noted that the rapid adoption of stablecoins and digital currencies outside traditional banks poses challenges.

“There is a digital revolution. Many people now make payments without using the banking system. To this end, I have directed capital market and banking authorities to track this trend while it is still evolving,” he said.

He stressed that digital tools, AI, and open banking are no longer futuristic but essential for Nigeria’s economic growth.

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso also revealed that diaspora remittances, now at $600m monthly, could reach $1billion by 2026. CIBN President Prof. Pius Olanrewaju disclosed that since 2024, 16 banks have raised over N2.5 trillion in fresh capital, while private sector credit has surged above N82 trillion, boosting jobs and businesses.
The renewed focus comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing legal battles with Binance Holdings Ltd. The government is demanding over $79.5 billion and ₦231m in damages, along with $2.001 billion in alleged unpaid taxes for 2022 and 2023. The crypto firm and its executives, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, face multiple charges including tax evasion, money laundering, and foreign exchange violations.

The cases, currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja, also seek penalties for tax defaults, interest charges tied to CBN’s lending rate, and other sanctions. Authorities allege Binance concealed operations despite its significant presence in Nigeria.

  • BASA Accuses Governor Makinde of Betrayal, Says He Abandoned Her Local Government for Another Candidate

Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA), a former Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has voiced strong disappointment over what she described as a breach of political trust by the governor.

In a video interview shared on the official YouTube channel of Edmund Obilo, BASA recounted how Governor Makinde had personally pledged support for her ambition to contest a seat in the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to her, the governor encouraged her candidacy as part of his stated commitment to increase women’s participation in politics.

However, BASA said things took a different turn when the decisive moment arrived. She claimed the governor abandoned his promise, leaving her and her supporters embarrassed, while instead throwing his weight behind another consensus candidate.

“He disappointed and abandoned my local government in front of all of us the same day he chose the other consensus candidate,” she said.

Her remarks have sparked debate among political observers, with many pointing to her experience as another example of how women often face exclusion despite ongoing calls for gender inclusivity in Nigerian politics.

BASA’s outburst is expected to reignite discussions about trust, loyalty, and fairness within the PDP in Oyo State, while also highlighting broader concerns about women’s representation in leadership positions.
