• Nnamdi Kanu Opens Defence, Lists 23 Witnesses Including Wike, Sanwo-Olu and Ex-Military Chiefs.

Detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has agreed to open his defence, marking a major turn in his long-running trial.

This comes just hours after protests in parts of Abuja led by Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, calling for Kanu’s release.

Kanu had earlier filed a motion challenging the court’s jurisdiction, but in a fresh application on Tuesday, October 21, he informed Justice James Omotosho that he was ready to defend himself, citing a previous court order directing him to begin on October 24, 2025.

He revealed plans to call 23 witnesses divided into two groups—“ordinary but material witnesses” and “vital and compellable witnesses”—to testify under Section 232 of the Evidence Act.

He also requested 90 days to conclude his defence, indicating he may now be representing himself instead of his legal team led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Among those he intends to summon as witnesses are former Defence Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), ex-Army Chief Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Works Minister Dave Umahi, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN), and ex-NIA DG Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

Kanu said he would personally testify to “deny the allegations” and explain the political context of his actions, assuring the court that he would not waste its time and that “justice must be seen to be done.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, a magistrate court in Abuja ordered the remand of Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 others who joined the protests demanding his release.

They face charges of conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and public disturbance, and will appear in court again on October 24.

  • We Have Already Submitted Your Documents To EFCC – CCB to Nyesom Wike.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has found himself embroiled in a fresh controversy over allegations of secret acquisition of multimillion-dollar properties in Florida, USA.

According to reports, Wike attempted to amend his asset declaration with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to include the properties, but was informed that his original declaration had already been forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for thorough verification and investigation.

Sources close to the minister revealed that Wike was unsettled by the development, which could potentially lead to a forensic audit of his financial dealings. Investigations by some media outlets uncovered a pattern of concealment and alleged violations of Nigeria’s asset declaration laws by the minister. Records obtained showed that Wike acquired a $2 million mansion in Winter Springs, Florida, registered under the names of his wife, Justice Eberechi Wike, and their three children.

Further investigations revealed that three multimillion-dollar homes in affluent Florida communities were purchased covertly using cash transactions and swiftly transferred to their children via quitclaim deeds, executed by Wike’s wife. These transactions, spanning from 2021 to 2023, raised suspicions of attempts to keep assets beyond the regulatory grasp of Nigerian anti-corruption bodies.

The CCB informed Wike that his file had already been transmitted to the EFCC for verification, and the anti-graft agency is now conducting a forensic audit of Wike’s declarations, ownership details, and possible infractions. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), advocacy groups, and international NGOs have launched campaigns demanding an exhaustive probe into Wike’s financial dealings, citing suspected diversion of public funds and illicit enrichment.

Wike’s camp has denied the allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated attacks. However, documentary evidence filed in US property registries tells a different story. An EFCC source said the minister is “playing with fire” and that the ongoing forensic financial investigations will uncover the truth. As the investigation unfolds, Wike’s reputation and future hang in the balance.

  • “You’ll Keep Contesting for President on Social Media” — Wike Mocks Peter Obi.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ridiculed former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying he would “continue to contest for President on social media, not in Nigeria.”

Wike made the remark on Thursday during the inauguration of new roads in Abuja’s Mabushi District, responding to Obi’s recent criticism of the poor state of public schools in the FCT.

Obi, during a visit to LEA Primary School in Kapwa on Wednesday, had described the school’s condition as “a national disgrace” and a reflection of Nigeria’s “empty commitment to education,” lamenting the lack of chairs, toilets, and other basic facilities.

But in a fiery reaction, Wike accused Obi of politicising everything and using emotional public appearances to attract online sympathy.

“I hear one of the social media presidential candidates visited a local school and claimed the government had abandoned public education. His name is Mr Peter Obi. It’s not everything you must play politics with,” Wike said.

He also questioned Obi’s record as Anambra governor, alleging that he failed to complete key projects during his eight-year tenure and even clashed with his successor.

“Peter Obi, you governed Anambra for eight years. If you had done everything right, no one would still be talking about developing the state today. Why did you even fall out with your successor?” he asked.

Wike went on to boast that he had achieved more in two years as FCT Minister than Obi did in eight years as governor.

“We’ve been in office for just two years, not even four yet. Compare our work in the FCT with your eight years in Anambra, can you truly say you love this country or your people? Certainly not,” he said.

He further dismissed Obi’s presidential ambitions, claiming that someone who could not manage a political party was unfit to lead a nation.

“You will continue to contest as President on social media, not as President of Nigeria. You couldn’t even manage your own party. How can you manage a country of over 200 million people? It’s not available for people like you,” Wike declared.

  • “Contradictions Everywhere!” — Lere Olayinka Blasts Sahara Reporters Over Conflicting Claims on Minister Wale Edun’s Health

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized Sahara Reporters over what he described as inconsistent and misleading reports about the health of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

In a post shared on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Olayinka accused the online media outlet of publishing contradictory narratives regarding the minister’s alleged health crisis and recent travel activities.

He pointed out that Sahara Reporters had initially published a story on Sunday alleging that Minister Edun suffered a severe stroke, was incapacitated, and had been flown abroad for urgent medical treatment. However, just days later, the same platform reported that Edun had traveled from Abuja to Lagos on Monday via a commercial flight, and later departed for London that same day—also via a commercial airline.

Olayinka questioned the credibility of such reports, highlighting the logical inconsistency between the two stories.

“Sowore’s Sahara Desert said that the Minister can no longer use his hands and legs. Now, could a Minister of Finance, a public figure, who suffered STROKE and can no longer use his legs and hands have traveled from Abuja to Lagos via COMMERCIAL FLIGHT and also to London via another Commercial Flight and no one saw him to take his pictures?”

He argued that it was implausible for someone allegedly suffering from a debilitating stroke to manage two commercial flights in one day without any eyewitness accounts or photographic evidence emerging.

The post, which quickly gained traction online, was widely seen as an attempt to discredit Sahara Reporters and defend the integrity of the Tinubu administration amidst public concern over the minister’s condition.

While Olayinka’s statement came amid confirmation that Edun had indeed traveled to the United Kingdom for medical care, it reinforced doubts about the accuracy of earlier sensational reports claiming the minister was in critical condition.

According to official sources, Edun’s trip to London followed a brief domestic flight from Abuja to Lagos on Monday night. Though the Presidency had earlier stated that the minister was “indisposed but recuperating” in Abuja, the confirmed travel abroad suggested he was seeking advanced medical attention.

However, the key point of contention remains Sahara Reporters’ conflicting reports—one depicting a dire health emergency and the other narrating an unassisted commercial journey abroad.

  • Bayelsa Governor Duoye Diri, 17 Lawmakers Resign From PDP.

According to the post, the governor has resigned from the party alongside the 17 House of Assembly members in the state.

The Bayelsa State governor, Duoye Diri, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He made this announcement through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah who communicated the development on his Facebook Page on Wednesday.

According to the post, the governor has resigned from the PDP alongside 17 members of the House of Assembly in the state.

Two other lawmakers from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) also tendered their resignation.

While it is unclear where the governor is headed, on May 1, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that no fewer than 27 political aides of Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State were dismissed following their participation in the inauguration of the Bayelsa State chapter of a grassroots-based political movement, The NEW Associates.

The affected aides were reportedly dismissed after attending the inauguration of the Bayelsa chapter of The NEW Associates and participating in a mega rally held in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Governor Diri's resignation comes a day after the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, also abandoned the PDP.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Governor Mbah announced his defection to APC on Tuesday during a press conference, saying the move was driven by his desire to better serve the people of Enugu and align with the APC’s “vision for development and progress.”

He formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his immediate predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, state and federal lawmakers, among others.

In a broadcast to the Enugu people, Mbah announced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC, citing a desire for a platform where the people's interest would be represented and respected.

  • Meet Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Pardoned by President Tinubu.

A wave of outrage and disbelief has trailed the release of 44-year-old Kelvin Prosper Oniarah — the infamous Delta-born kidnap kingpin once declared one of Nigeria’s most dangerous criminals — following his inclusion in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s latest round of presidential pardons.

Oniarah, also known by his aliases Kelvin Ibruvwe and Kelvin Ezigbe, was arrested on September 25, 2013, in a joint operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army. He was subsequently convicted for multiple counts of kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism-related offences that terrorised parts of Delta, Edo, Anambra, and Rivers States for years.

    Trail of Violence and Terror
Before his arrest, Kelvin was the leader of a feared criminal syndicate responsible for high-profile kidnappings and killings. Among his victims was renowned human rights lawyer, Barrister Mike Ozekhome (SAN), abducted on August 24, 2013, along the Auchi–Benin expressway.

Other victims linked to his gang included:

A serving judge of the Edo State Judiciary,
A female Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) official,
Dr. Chudi Nwike, former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, who was killed in captivity,
Several National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and security personnel.
Kelvin’s network operated from camps in Warri and Kokori (Delta State), Ugbokolo (Benue), Benin City (Edo), and Aba (Abia State). His reign of terror also saw the killing of numerous policemen and soldiers during deadly ambushes.

    Defiance Against the State
In a chilling episode that underscored his notoriety, Oniarah publicly issued a 60-day ultimatum to the Federal Government in September 2013, demanding the release of his detained gang members or face nationwide bloodshed — a threat that prompted one of the most extensive manhunts in Nigeria’s history.

    Conviction and Release
Oniarah was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in October 2023, with his sentence backdated to 2013. It was later reduced to 13 years for what prison officials described as “good conduct” and participation in the National Open University of Nigeria correctional education programme.

His sudden release under the Tinubu administration’s controversial amnesty programme has sparked a storm of criticism from security analysts and victims’ families, who argue that granting clemency to an unrepentant criminal undermines justice and the fight against violent crime.

Kelvin’s freedom, after 12 years behind bars, now raises serious questions about the moral compass of the nation’s justice system

  • Lere Olayinka Slams Critics Over INEC Chairman Mix-Up — Clarifies Confusion Between Prof. Amupitan and Prof. Osipitan

Political aide Lere Olayinka, media adviser to former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has reacted sharply to the ongoing confusion surrounding the identity of the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.

The controversy erupted after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointment of Professor Joash Amupitan from Kogi State as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu. The decision, which was ratified by the National Council of State, sparked widespread debate online after several people mistakenly identified the new INEC boss as Professor Taiwo Osipitan (SAN) — a senior advocate and legal scholar.

Addressing the confusion on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Lere Olayinka criticized those spreading misinformation, accusing them of intellectual laziness and failing to verify facts before commenting.

    He wrote:

“People with sawdust-populated brains won’t know the difference between Amupitan and Osipitan. They don’t know that Prof. Taiwo Osipitan (SAN) is different from Prof. Joash Amupitan.”

Olayinka’s blunt statement reignited debate on social media, as Nigerians scrambled to distinguish between the two professors. Some users called for transparency from government communication channels to avoid similar identity mix-ups in the future.

Meanwhile, research into Professor Joash Amupitan’s background is ongoing as the public seeks to learn more about the man set to lead Nigeria’s electoral body into its next phase.

  • Lere Olayinka Slams Atiku Abubakar, Calls Him a “Hypocrite” Over Support for Nnamdi Kanu Protest

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for supporting protests calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a post shared via X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Olayinka accused Atiku of double standards, describing him as a hypocrite who failed to publicly condemn the brutal murder of Deborah Samuel, a Sokoto student lynched in 2022 over alleged blasphemy.

    He wrote:

“This same Atiku that failed to speak against the murder of Deborah in Sokoto then ooo.
Hypocrite @atiku did a tweet condemning Deborah’s murder but quickly deleted it.”

Olayinka’s remarks come amid renewed calls for Kanu’s release. The IPOB leader, who has been in DSS detention since 2021 following his arrest and extradition from Kenya, continues to face terrorism-related charges before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu’s lawyers have repeatedly raised concerns about his deteriorating health, while political figures like Atiku have recently voiced support for his unconditional release — a move Olayinka now criticizes as politically motivated.

  • “Does It Make Sense to Say FCT Is Working But Tinubu Isn’t?” — Lere Olayinka Questions Critics Amid New Asokoro Road Project Launch

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred conversation online after posing a striking question to critics of both his principal and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Taking to his official X (Twitter) handle on Monday, October 6, 2025, Olayinka challenged those who praise the progress in the FCT yet criticize the President’s administration, calling their stance illogical.

His statement came shortly after the flag-off of a new road construction project in Asokoro, one of Abuja’s prime districts — an event attended by top dignitaries from across the nation.

The project, launched by Minister Nyesom Wike, marks another key infrastructure milestone under the Tinubu administration, reflecting the government’s continued investment in the capital’s development.

    In his post, Olayinka wrote:

“Does it make sense to say the FCT is working but Mr. President is not working?… For us, no sector will be left untouched.”

His comments echoed Wike’s own fiery remarks at the event, where the minister took a moment to address critics who, in his words, “find nothing good” about the current administration.

The FCT minister reaffirmed his commitment to delivering visible progress, stressing that all sectors would benefit from the renewed focus on national development.

“Does It Make Sense to Say FCT Is Working But Tinubu Isn’t?” — Lere Olayinka Questions Critics Amid New Asokoro Road Project Launch Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stirred conversation online after posing a striking question to critics of both his principal and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In his post, Olayinka wrote: “Does it make sense to say the FCT is working but Mr. President is not working?… For us, no sector will be left untouched.” His comments echoed Wike’s own fiery remarks at the event, where the minister took a moment to address critics who, in his words, “find nothing good” about the current administration. • Lere Olayinka Counters Sowore’s Court Claims, Says ‘Free Speech Isn’t a License for Defamation’

On Monday, October 6, 2025, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, reacted to a post by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore regarding his ongoing legal battle with the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sowore had earlier taken to his X handle to share updates from a court hearing involving himself, Meta, and X (formerly Twitter). The activist revealed that the companies were dragged into the case over alleged defamatory posts — one of which labeled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) a criminal.

According to Sowore, Meta’s legal representative appeared to side with the DSS during the hearing, sparking online discussions about freedom of expression and digital censorship in Nigeria.

In response, Olayinka fired back on his own X page, emphasizing that freedom of speech does not include making unfounded criminal allegations against individuals.

The online exchange reignited public debate about free speech, accountability, and Nigeria’s cybercrime laws, particularly given Sowore’s history with the DSS following his 2019 #RevolutionNow movement.

As of now, neither side has escalated the matter further, but Nigerians are closely watching as the court proceedings unfold and the debate over digital rights continues.

  • Account for N14trn fuel subsidy savings or face legal action’, SERAP tells 36 governors, Wike.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Nigeria’s 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike to “urgently disclose the spending details of the estimated N14trn fuel subsidy savings they collected from FAAC allocations, including details and locations of projects executed with the money, and the implementation status and completion reports, if any, on the projects.”

SERAP urged them to “provide details of the plans on how subsequent fuel subsidy savings they expect to collect from FAAC allocations, including details of any planned projects on which the money would be spent.”

SERAP also urged them to “publicly invite the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to track and monitor the spending of the fuel subsidy savings collected by you, to ensure that the money is not diverted into private pockets.”

The 36 governors and the FCT minister have reportedly collected trillions of naira from FAAC allocations as fuel subsidy savings since mid-2023. But the increased allocations have not translated into improved access to basic public services, such as quality healthcare and education for poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

In the Freedom of Information requests dated 4 October 2025 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “There is a legitimate public interest for governors and the FCT minister to urgently explain how they have spent the money they have so far collected from the subsidy savings.”

SERAP said, “The savings from the removal of fuel subsidy ought to be spent solely for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable Nigerians who are bearing the brunt of the removal. Transparency in the spending of the money would help to avoid a morally repugnant result of double jeopardy on these Nigerians.”

The FoI requests, read in part: “There is a significant risk of mismanagement or diversion of funds linked to the increased FAAC allocations collected by the states and FCT.”

“The spending details of the money collected by several states and the FCT from fuel subsidy savings have been mostly shrouded in secrecy.”

  • EFCC Can Spend Resources To Jail Those Committing Naira Abuse, But Isn't Looking At Wike Chidi Odin.

In a scathing public critique, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a respected human rights lawyer and former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has questioned the credibility and consistency of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its silence regarding corruption allegations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The challenge throws a spotlight on the perceived selective application of anti-graft enforcement in Nigeria.

The controversy stems from recent allegations that Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, and his wife, Eberechi Suzette Wike, procured significant property assets in the United States. While Wike did not dispute the ownership, he claimed the properties were a gift from his father to his wife. This explanation has been met with widespread public skepticism and demands for verifiable evidence to support the claim.

Odinkalu, known for his forthright commentary, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to highlight what he described as a glaring inconsistency in the EFCC's operations. He contrasted the agency's vigorous prosecution of certain offenses, such as naira abuse, with its apparent unwillingness to investigate the source of the "humongous American properties" linked to a sitting minister.

"The EFCC which can spend resources to jail those committing naira abuse, is unlooking the case of the humongous American properties of the life bencher and his wife....How does it expect anyone to treat it seriously?" Odinkalu wrote.

His statement has garnered significant traction across social media platforms, fueling a broader public debate about equality before the law and the impartiality of Nigeria's key institutions. The critique underscores a growing sentiment that the anti-graft agency’s selective enforcement erodes public trust and undermines its core mandate. By publicly calling out the EFCC, Odinkalu has amplified demands for transparency and consistent application of the law, regardless of a suspect's political stature or connections.

  • Wike’s Aide Refutes Sowore’s Claims on INEC Chairman Yakubu

Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations made by activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, regarding the status of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Olayinka faulted Sahara Reporters for publishing what he described as false and sensational claims suggesting that President Bola Tinubu had forcefully removed Yakubu from office.

He clarified that the INEC Chairman was only directed to proceed on terminal leave, a routine administrative procedure that comes shortly before the end of his tenure, which is set to expire on October 21, 2025.

The controversy arose after Sahara Reporters alleged that Yakubu’s exit was politically motivated, linking it to claims of disloyalty during his time in office. The report quickly gained traction online, sparking heated debate and mixed reactions among Nigerians.

While some social media users accepted the narrative, others condemned it as misleading. Responding firmly, Olayinka stressed that Yakubu’s leave was procedural and not punitive. He accused Sahara Reporters of attempting to stir unnecessary controversy with politically sensitive misinformation.

“Spreading falsehood on such critical national matters only serves to mislead the public and fuel needless tension,” Olayinka warned.

  • Wike Hails Gov. Umo Eno for Defecting to APC, Urges Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has applauded Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a step towards unity and development.

Wike gave the commendation on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, during the commissioning of the 15.13km Ikot Esu–Otomo–Azumini road in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, political alignment among leaders will accelerate development in the state:

“Unity brings progress. When leaders work together, more projects will come to Akwa Ibom,” Wike said, praising Governor Eno for collaborating with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and aligning with the APC.

The FCT Minister also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his administration has increased funding for states to deliver impactful projects. He urged Akwa Ibom people to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, stressing that continuity would guarantee more growth.

In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno echoed the call for unity beyond party lines, insisting that development must take precedence over politics. He highlighted the new road’s significance, especially as it connects Akwa Ibom to Abia State, and assured residents that his administration would avoid burdening the state with unnecessary debts.

Eno also issued a three-month ultimatum for the completion of the Mbiabong–Atan–Ikon–Inya road, warning contractors of possible termination if deadlines are not met.

The governor reaffirmed Akwa Ibom’s support for President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing the current administration as one gradually restoring stability and confidence to the country.
