  • Wahala Don Set for Delta! 26-Year-Old Woman Accuses Baby Daddy, Family of Brutal Beatings, Child Neglect

Wahala don sup for Delta State as a 26-year-old woman, Favour Kalamatoro, has come out with a heartbreaking story of alleged domestic abuse, assault and child neglect by her children’s father and his family.

Favour, an Urhobo indigene from Obiayagha in Ughelli South, told SaharaReporters that her nightmare began after she went to her children’s father’s house in Udu Local Government Area to check on her two kids. Instead of peace, she said she was attacked by the man, Ikovie Odephiare, his mother, Mrs Ikovie Ekaete, his elder brother, Ikovie Etabunor, and other relatives.

According to her, she has two children with the man—a four-year-old boy and a seven-month-old baby girl—and has endured years of abuse, abandonment and suffering that pushed her into street begging and menial jobs just to survive.

Favour revealed that the violence started while she was pregnant with her second child.
“I was physically assaulted by my children’s father, his mother and his elder brother, all because I went to visit my kids,” she said.

She alleged that during her pregnancy, she was constantly insulted, starved and beaten.
“The abuse started when I was seven months pregnant and living in his house. He would insult me, beat me and even starve me, forcing me to go outside and beg for food while I was pregnant,” she narrated.

Things reportedly got worse when she was eight months pregnant.
“He beat me until I fainted, threw me out of the house and locked the door. Neighbours rushed me to a clinic, and I almost lost my baby. I survived, but the next day, the beatings continued.”

Unable to cope anymore, Favour said she left the house with her first child and began hawking sachet water just to feed herself and the boy.
“I packed my things and left with my four-year-old son. I started selling ‘pure water’ just to survive,” she said.

She further alleged that after she delivered her second child, the man and his family abandoned her completely.
“When I gave birth, none of them came to see me. My father and siblings paid all the hospital bills and took care of me and my two children.”

Although the children’s father later promised her family that he would take responsibility, she said he never fulfilled it.
“Six months later, he came and told my father he would take care of the children and pay the hospital bills, but he never did.”

According to Favour, whenever she asked for money to buy baby food or diapers, she was insulted and threatened.
“He told me not to ask him for anything again and said if I was tired, I should bring the children to him. Later, he told me never to contact him again because he wanted to start a new life and family, while we had nothing to eat.”

She said she once involved the police in Warri so he could formally agree to support the first child, but after sending ₦15,000 once, he allegedly stopped.
“He told me I could do my worst, that he was not afraid of the police or anybody.”

Favour also explained that years of dependence left her without any skills or stable source of income.
“He left me handicapped. I had no handwork, no business to fall back on. The small business I tried to run was ruined because he kept borrowing money from me.”

Out of desperation, she said she eventually took the children to their grandmother’s house for care, begging her to feed them. According to her, the woman initially agreed.

But wahala really burst when she went back to visit her children on Monday, January 10, 2026.
“When I went to see my children, their father, his mother and elder brother gathered and beat me. They punched me, flogged me with a cane and even a shovel, damaged my phone, and I sustained bruises on my mouth and all over my body,” she alleged.

Favour said she reported the matter to the police, but before officers could make an arrest, the children’s grandmother reportedly fled with the kids. She added that when police contacted the children’s father, he claimed he was out of town. Officers later discovered that the mother’s shop had been abandoned, allegedly on his instruction.

As of the time of filing this report, SaharaReporters said attempts to reach Ikovie Odephiare were unsuccessful, with his phone lines reportedly switched off.

“This is my story,” Favour said. “I am seeking urgent help to protect myself and my children.”

For many Nigerians reading this, one thing is clear: domestic violence and child neglect remain serious issues, and in this case, wahala don truly set oo for Delta.

  • On Friday evening, December 20, 2025, a 48-year-old poultry farmer, Mr. Ukpevo Oghenekaro, was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen near his farm along Iyede Road, Delta State, after the Ughelli Township Stadium. His son was also shot and injured, but survived after pretending to be dead. The attack is believed to have been a failed kidnapping attempt.

Eyewitnesses reported that Oghenekaro had gone to feed his birds for the Christmas season when three men tried to drag him into the bush. His son tried to intervene and was shot in the waist. The attackers managed to abduct Oghenekaro, leaving the son behind, who later raised the alarm and was rushed to a hospital.

The victim’s body was discovered about one kilometre from his farm the following morning by police operatives and family members. Rights activist Comrade Israel Joe condemned the killing, calling it “heartbreaking” and urged the Delta State Government to address rising insecurity. He also highlighted challenges in accessing hospital treatment for gunshot victims under the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, stated that the incident had not yet been officially reported to the state command.

  • Rights activist demands probe into killing of woman accused of child theft in Delta.

A human rights activist, Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, on Thursday said the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led Delta State Government should immediately investigate the murder of a woman by an angry mob on the suspicion of attempting to steal a seven-year-old child in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Agberen, in a statement sent to our correspondent in Warri, insisted that those suspected to be responsible must be arrested and brought to justice.

The woman was set ablaze by the mob on Wednesday, September 13, DAILY POST can report.

According to Agberen, he is making the call after the husband and children of the deceased woman visited the Ughelli North Council Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Jaro Egbo, in his office over the incident.

“While it has been reported by the indigenous people and residents of Agbarho town about the persistent and alarming disappearance of children, suspected to be victims of human trafficking or stolen for ritual purposes, which calls for concerns by the State Government and relevant authorities, no individuals, groups, residents or aggrieved commuters have the right to take the life of another on the ground of being a suspect or caught in the act.

“What would be the fate of these children, growing up in an environment where they are exposed to individuals who brutally tortured and murdered their mother, based on an unjust and erroneous characterization?

According to Agberen, “As a concerned citizen, I deeply condemn the actions of the aggrieved mob, which also expose the tragic consequences of mob justice, which continues to claim innocent lives and erode public trust in the justice system.

“The incident is a sobering reminder of the urgent need for stronger law enforcement, public education, and judicial reforms too.

  • Once-Prominent Oleh Township Stadium in Delta Now Overrun by Bushes and Farmlands

    September 15, 2025

Oleh Township Stadium in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, once a vibrant hub for sports and community events, has fallen into severe neglect, with its grounds now overtaken by cassava, yam, plantain, and thick bushes.

The facility, which hosted matches during the 2006 Africa Women’s Championship, including the South Africa vs. Algeria clash, was once ranked among Delta’s most prominent arenas—alongside Oghara, Ughelli, Agbor, and the Jay-Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwashi-Uku—under the administration of former Governor James Ibori.

Residents who visited the stadium this week described its collapse as a “death sentence” for young talents in the region.

“This used to be one of the most beautiful stadiums in Delta about 10–15 years ago. It was the pride of the state. Today, it is farmland. Cassava here, yams there. The tracks, roofs, and seats are all gone. Dreams have been wasted,” a resident lamented.

Community members accused the Delta State Government, House of Assembly, and Commissioner for Sports of deliberate neglect, and also faulted the local government chairman for ignoring the stadium’s decay.

Some young athletes continue to struggle to train on the dilapidated grounds, but residents say their ambitions are being crushed.

For many, the stadium holds deep personal value. A former athlete recalled how Oleh Stadium launched his career:

“I learned handball here and represented Delta State in several national tournaments. To see this stadium abandoned is heartbreaking. It once gave us hope.”

Locals have now issued an urgent appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to rescue the facility from total collapse, warning that the neglect is destroying future sporting opportunities.

“Delta prides itself as a sports-loving state. But look at what has become of Oleh Stadium. It is nothing but shameful,” a youth leader said.

  • Delta Court Jails Man for Vandalising Ubu Bridge Drainage along Asaba-Ughelli Expressway.

The High Court of Delta State, sitting in Asaba, has sentenced Emmanuel Sunday to two years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for vandalising government property.

The judgment was delivered by Hon. Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro of High Court 5, Asaba, following Emmanuel Sunday’s guilty plea to two counts bordering on vandalism and intent to steal. He was found guilty of damaging a section of the drainage system attached to the newly constructed Ubu Bridge along the Asaba–Ughelli Expressway.

The Judge held that the two-year jail term imposed on the convict for each count would run concurrently, and that one year is to be served in prison, while the remaining one year will be served as a non-custodial sentence. The Judge also held that the non-custodial sentence requires the convict to perform community service by cleaning the Court premises in Ogwashi-Uku for one year.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the judgment, the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Delta State, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, said the case reinforces the State Government’s resolve to prosecute offenders who vandalise public infrastructure.

According to the Attorney-General, the arrest of the convict was made possible after the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, reported the incident to the police.

The Attorney-General further explained that the defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge: willful destruction of public property, punishable under Section 7(1) of the Delta State Public and Private Properties Protection Law, 2018, and severing with intent to steal, punishable under Section 395 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State, 2006.

He further commended the judiciary and the police for their swift action and encouraged citizens to safeguard state-owned facilities meant for the collective benefit of the public.

Also commenting on the judgment, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ejiro Jamani, reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on vandalism of public infrastructure.

“Let this serve as a clear warning: government properties are public assets, not for personal exploitation. Any act of vandalism will be met with the full weight of the law,” he said.
