FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, emphasizing that his political structure in Rivers State is fully committed to the President. Wike made the statement on January 6, 2026, during ongoing consultations across local government areas in Rivers State. His declaration comes amid a public clash with APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru over party influence and local politics. • INEC Refuses to Recognize Turaki-Led PDP National Working Committee Amid Legal Dispute

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to recognize the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing ongoing court cases and unresolved litigation over the party’s leadership. In a letter dated December 22, 2025, INEC stated it could not acknowledge the officers elected at the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan. The commission emphasized that any recognition of a faction would be inappropriate until a definitive judicial resolution is reached. Both the Turaki-backed and Wike-backed factions attended a recent emergency meeting at INEC headquarters in Abuja, highlighting the intensifying leadership crisis within the opposition party.

  • Seyi Makinde Tells Tinubu to Call Wike to Order, Rejects Plan to Back APC in 2027 and Declares Loyalty to PDP as Video Sparks Nationwide Debate

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has sent a strong political message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the president has the constitutional authority to rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over what he described as anti-democratic conduct. Speaking during an interview that has since gone viral, Makinde accused Wike of undermining internal party democracy and damaging Nigeria’s democratic image. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating clearly that he refused to align with Wike or collaborate with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Makinde disclosed that he was shocked when Wike openly pledged PDP support for Tinubu during a past meeting, stressing that no individual has the authority to impose political choices on others within the party. Drawing a clear line ahead of the 2027 elections, the Oyo governor said Wike is free to support Tinubu, but he will not follow that path, adding that his priority remains preserving the unity and survival of the PDP.

  • FCT Indigenous Contractors Accuse Minister Wike of Using Police to Suppress Protest Over N5.2 Billion Unpaid Contracts

The Association of Indigenous Contractors of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of deploying heavily armed security personnel to intimidate members protesting unpaid contract debts totaling over N5.2 billion. According to the association, contractors who executed certified projects were blocked from entering the FCTA office complex despite scheduled meetings, and some were verbally and physically threatened. • Wike: FCT Local Contractors Cry Out Over Unpaid ₦5.2 Billion.

Local contractors in the Federal Capital Territory stormed the gate of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Monday over alleged unpaid contract bills said to total about ₦5.2 billion.
Wike's PDP Membership Comes With Some Disadvantage, He'll Soon Be Shown The Way Out - Deputy National Publicity Secretary
Some of the protesters claimed that individual debts owed ran into hundreds of millions, appealing to Wike to meet them directly to understand their plight.

One of the contractors, Okeke Benardine, told Punch that, “The thing is that we’ve done jobs with the FCT over the years. When the minister came, he paid us some. Most of our liability presently are from the present administration. But we have not been paid for almost two years now.

“And if you look there, those are some of the ACs I installed. Some of the offices, I did inverters, I did boreholes. And all we are doing is begging the minister. We don’t know the problem; he should just pay us. That is the essence of all this.”

He put the total claim at ₦5.2bn, adding that his personal outstanding was about ₦270 million.

“I have met one or two people who said their bills are not here, so I am sure it’s more than ₦5.2bn. I know some of our members are saying their bill is before 2023. But I can assure you that 70 per cent of the bill is from 2023,” Bernardine added.

Another contractor, Adebola Benson, claimed he was arrested after sending a text message to the minister to inquire about the delayed payments.

“Like in my own case, I was arrested because of this matter. I sent him a text, asking why we are having this issue. And the next thing I saw was a police officer calling me… But I do not know why the police did that,” he said.

He urged Wike to “listen to us directly, not from people around him. We want him to talk to us one-on-one. Let us know what the problem is, and why he is not paying.”

  • Wike Reportedly Refuses to Unseal PDP Headquarters Despite President Tinubu’s Directive

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive to unseal the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the building remains sealed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike.

On Monday, May 26, 2025, the FCTA sealed several properties in Abuja, including the PDP’s Wadata Plaza in Wuse Zone 5, over unpaid ground rents. In response to public outcry, President Tinubu intervened, ordering the unsealing of the affected properties and granting a 14-day grace period for defaulters to settle their dues.

However, as of Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, the PDP headquarters remained padlocked, with FCTA seals still in place. Staff members were seen outside the premises, expressing frustration over the continued closure.

Minister Wike has defended the FCTA’s actions, emphasizing the importance of ground rent payments for the administration’s revenue. He stated that the enforcement would continue, regardless of political pressure or blackmail.

The PDP has condemned the sealing of its headquarters, describing it as an attempt to undermine democracy. Party leaders have called for immediate compliance with the President’s directive to unseal the premises.

The situation has sparked debates about the autonomy of the FCTA and the implications of defying presidential orders. Observers are closely monitoring developments as tensions between the FCTA and the PDP escalate.
