  • "They were hunters with dane gun"- Police denies abduction of students in Nasarawa.

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has denied reports of fresh abduction of school children in the North-Central state.

Reports had emerged on Friday claiming bandits had abducted and unspecified number of pupils from St. Peter’s Academy.

But in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the students only saw hunters with dane guns and mistook them for kidnappers.

According to the Police, the school area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored.

“On 21/11/2025 at about 1000hrs, an unverified report filtered in alleging that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy were abducted while engaging in sporting activities on the school field. In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, promptly deployed a combined team of Police operatives and military personnel stationed within the general area to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers. The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored. The proprietor of the school was also interviewed and confirmed to the operatives that the alarm raised was a false one. The general area continues to be closely monitored to forestall any breach of security.

“The Command therefore urges members of the public to disregard the circulating report as mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news. Journalists and media outlets are further advised to always verify information before publication in order to avoid misleading the public.”

The statement read: “The Nasarawa State Police Command’s attention has been drawn to a report circulating across social media platforms and some news outlets alleging that kidnappers invaded St. Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in Doma Local Government Area, and abducted two pupils. The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the report is false and does not reflect the true state of affairs.

President bola tinubu has declared a state of emergency on nigeria’s security training facilities, describing their poor state as a threat to the efficiency of the nation’s internal security agencies.

The announcement covers institutions under the nigeria police force (npf), the nigeria security and civil defence corps (nscdc), and other agencies. the development was confirmed by enugu governor peter mbah, who heads the nec ad-hoc committee on security training reforms.

During an inspection in lagos, mbah said the president’s directive followed his october 23 approval for a total overhaul of police and civil defence training centres. “the president recognized the urgent need to restore pride, professionalism, and confidence among our security personnel,” mbah stated.

He noted that the committee, which has 30 days to submit its report, divided into two teams — one led by nasarawa governor abdullahi sule to inspect institutions in the north, and another led by himself in the south. according to him, consultants are assessing what needs to be rebuilt, re-equipped, and modernized.

Mbah explained that the move would establish an intervention fund for rebuilding and digital transformation, adding that tinubu’s approval of 30,000 new police recruits required proper training infrastructure. “we cannot train a 21st-century force using 20th-century systems,” he said, emphasizing the need for digital skills in ai, robotics, and mechatronics.

He stressed that the initiative was proactive and not in reaction to any external comment. “this directive was issued before recent foreign remarks. the president is simply addressing decades of neglect,” he clarified.

Governor dapo abiodun, former igp alkali usman baba, and aig olatunji disu, who oversees the spu, affirmed that the committee’s findings will guide the next phase of comprehensive reforms across nigeria’s security training institutions.

  • Married man kills lover for cheating on him in Plateau.

A 51-year-old married man identified as Moses Abraham, has been arrested by the police in Jos, Plateau State, for beating his lover to death after catching her with another man.

The incident which reportedly happened on Friday, occurred in the Legislative Quarters area of Jos, the state capital, when Abraham, a long distance tanker driver, went to visit the deceased whose name was given as Cecilia, to spend the night with her only to meet another man in the apartment he rented for her.

According to an eyewitness who live in the same neighbourhood as the deceased, following the discovery of another man in his lover’s apartment, Abraham was said to have left and gone/to a nearby bar where he waited for the man to leave while taking some alcoholic liquors.

The eyewitness said late in the night, the suspect, a father of five, went back to Cecilia’s apartment, locked the door and gave her the beating of her life, hitting her head on the wall several times, before finally using a stone to crush her skull.

“From what we know, the man lives in Bidi-Bidi and is married with four children. The late woman, Cecilia, is separated from her husband and it was Abraham that rented the apartment for her while she runs a salon nearby,” the neighbour said.

“What happened that led to the death of Cecilia, according to what Abraham said, was that he came to her place without informing her because he was told she used to bring home other men whenever he was out of town because he is a long distance tanker driver.

“So on that Friday, he came and met a man in her apartment which caused the fight which ultimately led to her demise,” he stated.

He added that after killing Cecilia, Abraham went to the nearby Nasarawa-Gwom police station to report the murder and turn himself in. He then led the police to Cecilia’s apartment where the corpse was evacuated and taken to a mortuary while Abraham was taken into custody.

  • Former FCT minister of state, Ewuga is dead.

Senator Solomon Akku Ewuga, a prominent politician and elder statesman from Nasarawa State, has died.

Sources close to the family in Akwanga and Nasarawa-Eggon confirmed the development to Daily Trust yesterday.

Ewuga, a lawyer, rose to prominence in Nasarawa politics in 1999 when he contested against Abdullahi Adamu, former National Chairman of the APC, for the governorship ticket. After Adamu won the highly contested PDP primary election, Ewuga was picked as his deputy.

Following their victory in the governorship election, Governor Adamu nominated him as minister from Nasarawa State, and in June 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister of State for the FCT. He held the position for two years before being removed in a cabinet reshuffle.

Upon returning home, Ewuga again contested for governor in 2003 and 2007. He later defected to the ANPP and subsequently to the CPC, where he joined forces with Tanko Al-Makura to defeat then-Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma in 2011.

While Al-Makura was elected governor on the CPC platform, Ewuga won a Senate seat to represent Nasarawa North in the 7th Assembly.

After serving one term, he made another attempt at the governorship but lost in the primaries.

A veteran journalist, Ewuga once served as managing director of the Nigerian Standard Newspaper.
