  • Appeal Court Affirms Death Sentence for Abdulmalik Tanko Over Murder of Five-Year-Old Kano Pupil Hanifa Abubakar, Upholds High Court Ruling

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kano State has upheld the death sentence passed on Abdulmalik Tanko for the murder of five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar, one of Nigeria’s most shocking child murder cases in recent years. Delivering judgment, Justice A. R. Muhammad dismissed Tanko’s appeal and affirmed the ruling of the Kano State High Court, which sentenced him to death by hanging.

The appellate court ruled that the trial court correctly applied the law and thoroughly evaluated the evidence presented by the prosecution. Justice Muhammad stated that Tanko failed to raise any credible issues capable of overturning his conviction, describing the prosecution’s case as strong, consistent, and persuasive. The court further held that there was no legal basis to interfere with either the findings or the sentence imposed by the lower court.

The judge also noted that once Tanko exhausts all remaining legal options, the appropriate authorities should ensure that the judgment is fully enforced.

Hanifa Abubakar was abducted in December 2021 from Noble Kids Academy in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, a school owned by Tanko. Investigations revealed that Tanko kidnapped the child, demanded a ₦6 million ransom from her parents, and later poisoned her with rat poison, leading to her death. The case sparked nationwide outrage due to the victim’s young age and the breach of trust by a school proprietor entrusted with children’s safety.

Tanko was arraigned alongside Isyaku Hashim and Fatima Jibril in January 2022 on charges including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, unlawful detention, and culpable homicide. In July 2022, the Kano State High Court sentenced Tanko and Hashim to death by hanging, while Fatima Jibril was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for her role in the crime.

  • FBI Declares Alleged Jeffrey Epstein Letter Linking Donald Trump to ‘Shared Love of Young Girls’ Fake, Cites Postmark After Epstein’s Death

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has officially dismissed as fake an alleged letter purportedly written by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein claiming a “shared love of young girls” with former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a statement released via the U.S. Department of Justice on December 23, 2025, the FBI said the document circulating online failed basic authenticity checks and was flagged as suspicious from the moment it surfaced.

According to federal authorities, handwriting analysis showed the letter did not match Epstein’s known writing style, while the postmark revealed it was mailed three days after Epstein died in custody in New York in August 2019. Additional irregularities included the absence of a valid jail return address and Epstein’s inmate number, both mandatory for outgoing prison mail. The FBI stressed that the inclusion of the letter in a batch of Epstein-related documents released by the Justice Department does not make its contents factual.

The letter, allegedly addressed to former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, had gained traction after being reported by international media outlets. Federal authorities reiterated that the document should not be relied upon as evidence, warning against the dangers of spreading unverified materials, and reaffirmed their commitment to transparency while maintaining factual accuracy in official disclosures.

  • “Not My Decision!”: Governor Muftwang Washes Hands Off Wike, Fayose’s Expulsion from PDP

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Muftwang, has firmly dissociated himself from the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and several others from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by Gyang Bere, his Director of Press and Public Affairs, the governor clarified that the issue was never discussed at the PDP Governors Forum nor at the National Executive Committee (NEC) before the motion was suddenly introduced.

The statement stressed that the expulsion move does not represent Governor Muftwang’s position, especially given the delicate state of the party.

    According to the release:

“Governor Mutfwang made it clear that the matter was neither discussed by the Governors Forum nor at the NEC before the motion was presented. The proposal does not reflect his stance.”

The governor emphasized that sacking key party leaders at such a critical time is not a strategic approach to resolving the PDP’s internal crisis.

He called instead for unity, dialogue, and collective effort to rebuild and reposition the party for the challenges ahead.

  • The World Bank says Nigeria’s spending on social protection—just 0.14% of its GDP, far below global and African averages—has no meaningful impact on poverty. In its new report, The State of Social Safety Nets in Nigeria, the Bank found that all social protection programmes combined reduced poverty by only 0.4 percentage points. It blamed the weak results on poor targeting, small benefit sizes, and fragmented implementation.

Between 2015 and 2021, about 60% of Nigeria’s safety-net funding came from foreign donors, mostly the World Bank, raising sustainability concerns. Although the National Social Safety Nets Programme (NASSP) has reduced poverty by over 4 percentage points among its beneficiaries, the report says only 44% of total benefits from all government schemes actually reach poor Nigerians.

The Bank urged Nigeria to increase domestic funding, expand coverage, and redesign benefits to reflect household size if it wants its social spending to truly reduce poverty.

Speaking via video at a global tourism and investment forum in Saudi Arabia, he was asked if the 2026 World Cup would be his last. Ronaldo responded: “Definitely, yes. I’m going to be 41 years old, and I think it will be the moment.”

With a light smile, he joked: “Soon for me means in 10 years… No, I’m joking.”

  • Billionaire Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo inspires Boniface and others as he reveals he has over 40 cars.

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he no longer keeps track of the number of cars he owns, admitting that his passion for luxury vehicles has faded over time.

In a recent chat, the Al-Nassr forward said, “I can buy anything I want, but I don’t need that anymore.” When asked about the number of cars in his collection, he responded, “I bought a car about three days ago, but it’s for collection like an investment. I don’t even have count of how many cars I have.”

He continued, “I don’t know honestly how many cars I have — maybe 41, 42, I don’t know. My favorite among them is my Bugatti.”

Ronaldo also disclosed that he rarely visits his garage. “I don’t even go to the garage to see my cars. Sometimes when I pass by after an inspection, I just look at them and say, ‘Oh, they are good and clean,’ then they go back into the garage,” he said with a smile.

According to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, cars are no longer a passion for him. When asked if he still drives, he replied, “Yes, I can drive. I even drive around a lot in the south, but the traffic is terrible.”

The 39-year-old Portuguese international, who has played for top clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, is known for his enviable collection of supercars — from Bugattis and Lamborghinis to Ferraris and Rolls-Royces.

  • Amorim cannot work miracles at Man Utd – Cristiano Ronaldo.

Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim cannot work miracles in the Premier League.

Amorim finally led United to three consecutive wins for the first time since his appointment in November 2024. However, that run came to an end last weekend when they drew 2-2 at Nottingham Forest.

It has been a turbulent year for the Portuguese coach, as Manchester United recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish last season, ending 14th and trophyless after losing the Europa League final, thereby missing out on European competition this season.

While United have shown positive signs recently, Ronaldo still has reservations about the club’s current situation.

“He’s [Amorim] doing his best,” said Ronaldo, speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“What are you gonna do? Miracles? Miracles are impossible. We say in Portugal, miracles are only in Fatima.

You’re not gonna do miracles. Even the players. Manchester United have good players, but then some of them don’t have the mind, what is Manchester United.

  • “Contradictions Everywhere!” — Lere Olayinka Blasts Sahara Reporters Over Conflicting Claims on Minister Wale Edun’s Health

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized Sahara Reporters over what he described as inconsistent and misleading reports about the health of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

In a post shared on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Olayinka accused the online media outlet of publishing contradictory narratives regarding the minister’s alleged health crisis and recent travel activities.

He pointed out that Sahara Reporters had initially published a story on Sunday alleging that Minister Edun suffered a severe stroke, was incapacitated, and had been flown abroad for urgent medical treatment. However, just days later, the same platform reported that Edun had traveled from Abuja to Lagos on Monday via a commercial flight, and later departed for London that same day—also via a commercial airline.

Olayinka questioned the credibility of such reports, highlighting the logical inconsistency between the two stories.

“Sowore’s Sahara Desert said that the Minister can no longer use his hands and legs. Now, could a Minister of Finance, a public figure, who suffered STROKE and can no longer use his legs and hands have traveled from Abuja to Lagos via COMMERCIAL FLIGHT and also to London via another Commercial Flight and no one saw him to take his pictures?”

He argued that it was implausible for someone allegedly suffering from a debilitating stroke to manage two commercial flights in one day without any eyewitness accounts or photographic evidence emerging.

The post, which quickly gained traction online, was widely seen as an attempt to discredit Sahara Reporters and defend the integrity of the Tinubu administration amidst public concern over the minister’s condition.

While Olayinka’s statement came amid confirmation that Edun had indeed traveled to the United Kingdom for medical care, it reinforced doubts about the accuracy of earlier sensational reports claiming the minister was in critical condition.

According to official sources, Edun’s trip to London followed a brief domestic flight from Abuja to Lagos on Monday night. Though the Presidency had earlier stated that the minister was “indisposed but recuperating” in Abuja, the confirmed travel abroad suggested he was seeking advanced medical attention.

However, the key point of contention remains Sahara Reporters’ conflicting reports—one depicting a dire health emergency and the other narrating an unassisted commercial journey abroad.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo leapfrogs Boniface, Osimhen, Messi, and others to become football’s first billionaire after mega Al-Nassr deal

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become football’s first-ever billionaire, with his net worth now estimated at a staggering £1.04 billion, according to financial analysts at Bloomberg.

The 40-year-old Al-Nassr forward reached the milestone after his career earnings, endorsement deals, and investments were evaluated and adjusted for tax rates and market performance. Bloomberg reported that Ronaldo’s lucrative stint in Saudi Arabia has “catapulted him to the top of the global sports rich list,” making him the first footballer to appear on their Billionaires Index.

Ronaldo’s wealth now far surpasses that of his long-time rival Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami in the United States.

A major contributor to Ronaldo’s fortune is his lifetime partnership with Nike, valued at around £745 million, alongside other endorsements with global brands like Tag Heuer, Armani, PokerStars, Samsung, Unilever, and Louis Vuitton.

The Portuguese superstar is also investing heavily in luxury real estate, including a £28 million mansion complex in his home country. He is often seen flaunting high-end jewellery and watches, among them a Franck Muller Invisible Baguette Diamonds Imperial Tourbillon worth £1.13 million.

At Al-Nassr, Ronaldo earns a jaw-dropping £167.9 million per year — roughly £300 per minute, though he recently confessed he’d prefer to play solely for Portugal. In addition to his record-breaking contract, Ronaldo reportedly holds a stake in Al-Nassr, further boosting his immense fortune.

  • Oshiomhole Is Part Of The Problem In Nigeria’ Yusuf Blasts NASS Over Failure To Checkmate Tinubu.

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, has slammed the senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, over his comment on the insecurity in the North.
[BREAKING] VIDEO: Drama As Oshiomhole Shuts Down Lagos Airport Terminal After Missing His Flight.

Oshiomhole had recently stated that the insecurity in the North was tied to the activities of illegal mining in the region, stressing that top personnel were using choppers to carry out gold from the area.

Reacting to the remark, Yusuf, in an interview with Punch, opined that the former Governor of Edo State was part of the problem in Nigeria.

Taking a swipe at the 10th National Assembly, Yusuf said the lawmakers have failed to checkmate President Bola Tinubu, despite the violation of the constitution.

According to Yusuf, the 10th National Assembly is the most docile National Assembly since the beginning of democratic rule, adding that they never stopped anything, but were only interested in earning salaries without doing anything.

He said, “Adams Oshiomhole doesn’t know anything about the level of insecurity in the North, and he is part of the problem in Nigeria. The 10th National Assembly is a do-nothing National Assembly. They have allowed the President free rein without checking him.

“He gets loans from all over the place, and this is going to cripple the lives of our grandchildren. They never checkmated him. If Senator Adams Oshiomhole wants to grandstand and be in the newspapers, he is welcome. But he is as much a problem for this country as the President is.

“The 10th National Assembly is the most docile National Assembly we’ve had since the beginning of democratic rule. They never stopped anything, and all they are interested in is seeing an alert and doing nothing. They don’t ask the questions on behalf of the constituents who elected them. The whole 10th National Assembly is a failure.

“They have failed Nigerians because they are not checkmating this President. He is doing whatever he likes, violating the constitution in his appointments. Section 14(3) and 14(4) of the Constitution call for the President to ensure that whatever he does reflects the federal character. This is not what the President is doing, and nobody is asking him.

“He is getting loans all over the world, approved by them (the National Assembly), with nothing to show for it. People are suffering every day; people are hungry all across the land. You don’t hear any senator, including Senator Adams, telling the President that his government is cruel. He is not running this nation with the milk of human kindness.”

  • Retired police officers threaten to storm NASS over pension .

Court declines arrest of ex-senior cops accused of falsifying age

Union of Retired Police Officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) has resolved to undertake a peaceful protest at the National Assembly over the payment of pension emoluments.

In a statement by the chairman of the Kaduna State chapter, CSP Mannir Lawal Zaria (rtd), the union lamented the unbearable conditions faced by members.

Zaria cited widespread poverty, lack of access to healthcare, inability to afford basic feeding, children being withdrawn from schools, and increasing deaths among retired personnel.

According to the union, representatives from the Kaduna chapter, alongside delegates from 35 other states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), will converge next Monday on the National Assembly to drive home their grievances.

The resolution followed a virtual meeting held on Monday, September 22, 2025. The party revisited the long-standing demand for the exit of the Nigeria Police Force from the CPS.

Zaria observed that for more than 15 years, the union has consistently petitioned the government, staged protests, and submitted memoranda to lawmakers to push for the exit.

He recalled that the agitation had led to three public hearings, during which lawmakers were presented with evidence comparing the meagre pensions received by retired police officers under the CPS with the more robust benefits enjoyed by their counterparts in the military and the Department of State Services (DSS).
