The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has stated that most b+ndit leaders and their followers have been neutralised, noting that only a few scattered elements remain. He added that President Bola Tinubu has directed Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to eliminate the remaining bandits in the North-West.

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Kebbi State Police confirmed the abduction of at least 25 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko/Wasagu LGA, on Monday morning.

The attack by heavily armed bandits resulted in the d+ath of one staff member and injury to another, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi said. The incident reportedly occurred around 4am, with assailants engaging police officers in a gun battle.

Matawalle made his remarks during a visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters, following Juma’at prayers at the Command Mosque.

According to his Director of Information, Ibrahim Sule, he conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for the troops’ courage, patriotism, and achievements in dismantling bandit formations across the Northwest.

He told the soldiers: “Most key bandit leaders and their foot soldiers have been neutralised through your gallant effort. What remains now are scattered elements, and the Commander-in-Chief has directed that these must be completely eliminated. You have every support needed logistics, equipment, welfare, and morale to finish the job.”

Matawalle was received by Theatre Commander Maj. Gen. Warrah Bello Idris, who briefed him on recent operations, including neutralising high-value targets and reclaiming communities previously under bandit control. The minister praised the troops’ resilience, calling their sacrifices the foundation for peace returning to Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Addressing officers and soldiers, Matawalle urged sustained vigilance and discipline, assuring them that total victory was near. “Your sacrifices will never be in vain. The President, the nation, and soon the people of this region will sleep peacefully,” he declared.

  • Group Petitions Tinubu, Demands Removal of INEC Chair Over Alleged Ethnic, Religious Bias.

Group Petitions Tinubu, Demands Removal of INEC Chair Over Alleged Ethnic, Religious Bias
The recent appointment of Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sparked a major controversy, as a coalition of citizens has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove him, citing what they describe as “grave threats to national unity, democracy, and electoral integrity.”

In a petition submitted through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the group—operating under the banner Concerned Citizens for Peace, Justice, and Democratic Integrity—warned that Prof. Amupitan’s past writings and alleged biases make him unfit to oversee Nigeria’s electoral process.

According to the petition, Prof. Amupitan authored a controversial legal brief in 2020 titled “Genocide in Nigeria: The Implications for the International Community.” The document, the petitioners allege, contained “inflammatory and divisive claims” accusing certain ethnic and religious groups of orchestrating genocide and pursuing domination.

The petitioners argue that such views reveal a “deep-seated bias” incompatible with the neutrality required of an INEC Chairman. “These writings expose a worldview that cannot guarantee fairness to over 200 million Nigerians of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds,” the petition stated.

The coalition warned that Prof. Amupitan’s appointment has already created fear and suspicion among communities referenced in his writings. They noted that the perception of bias in the leadership of INEC could reignite ethnic tension, heighten religious polarization, and sow distrust ahead of future elections. The petition further stressed, “When citizens doubt the neutrality of the umpire, the entire democratic process collapses. When elections are tainted by fear and bias, democracy dies in spirit.” The group insisted that allowing Prof. Amupitan to remain in office would pose “a clear and present danger to national peace, cohesion, and stability.”

Describing their advocacy as patriotic rather than partisan, the petitioners urged President Tinubu to swiftly replace Prof. Amupitan with a more neutral and credible figure to safeguard the electoral system.

“INEC must be led by someone whose words and conduct embody impartiality, inclusiveness, and national cohesion—not division and distrust,” the statement read. The petitioners argued that Nigeria’s unity is “too precious to be endangered” by leadership weighed down by alleged religious or ethnic prejudice.

  • Sheikh Gumi Defends Negotiating With Bandits, Claims He Led 600 to Surrender.

Popular Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi has strongly rejected calls for his arrest, saying his peace-building role in Nigeria’s security crisis is being unfairly politicised.

He argues that his role as a mediator with bandit gangs is patriotic, not criminal.

In a statement on Sunday, the cleric lashed out at critics who demand he be detained.

He described them as “spineless, irresponsible and unpatriotic imbecilic people” who prefer sensationalism over real solutions.

Gumi reminded Nigerians of a major intervention he led in January 2021 in Sabon Garin Yadi forest, Kaduna State.

He says he was accompanied by the then Kaduna State Commissioner of Police — representing the Inspector-General — when he met with over 600 armed bandits and their commanders.

According to him, the meeting was part of a peace process.

The bandits agreed to disarm in exchange for security guarantees and basic amenities. But, he claims, the government never delivered on its side of the bargain.

  • "Over 70% of Patients Are Satisfied With Nigerian Healthcare" — Health Minister, Muhammad Pate.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, says patient satisfaction with Nigerian healthcare services currently stands at 74%.

Speaking at the 2025 Joint Annual Review themed “All hands, one mission: Bringing the Nigerian health sector to light,” he added that confidence in the direction of the health system has risen to 55%.

He said citizen perception surveys conducted in 2023, 2024, and 2025 show improvements. “Thousands of Nigerians shared their experiences. Nearly half now believe the government considers their views in decision-making. Confidence in the government’s capacity to manage health emergencies is now at 67%,” he said.

Pate noted that affordability remains a major challenge. “Access to services is improving, but affordability must improve further. Plans such as the Medical Relief Programme and expanded social health protection are underway.”
[11He added that health insurance coverage has grown from 6–7% to 12%, driven by mandatory insurance and the Vulnerable Groups Fund.

He said the ministry will consolidate gains, strengthen primary healthcare, sustain financing, and expand insurance for the poor and vulnerable. More than 20,000 frontline health workers have been recruited into federal tertiary hospitals within the last year, and over ₦50bn has been approved to address arrears and allowances.

Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, said the ministry is implementing reforms to tackle workforce shortages, infrastructure gaps, financing challenges, and declining public confidence.

He stated that the National Health System Reform and Investment Initiative has the potential to save ₦4.8tn annually from preventable diseases and retain about ₦850bn spent yearly on medical tourism.

Salako noted that over 500 high-impact projects, 13 federal tertiary institutions, and six cancer centres are underway, alongside efforts to expand insurance coverage and improve health financing mechanisms.

  • Kenyan Police Arrest Three Nigerians Over Suspected Cyber Fraud.

Kenyan authorities have arrested three Nigerian nationals for alleged cyber fraud and immigration offences after residents reported suspicious activity in a rented apartment in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

The suspects — Peter Chukwujekwu, Alazor Chukulute Sunday, and Nnalue Chiagozie Samwel — were arrested on 12 November 2025 in a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and immigration officers in Mwaliko Estate, Ngurubani.

According to Streamline, the DCI said, “A well-coordinated multi-agency raid in Mwaliko Estate has blown the lid off a suspected cyber fraud ring operated by three Nigerian nationals.”

The raid followed reports from residents about unusual movements and late-night activity in the apartment. Investigators recovered 21 phones, 79 SIM cards, a Dell laptop, and several credit cards believed to be linked to online fraud.

Authorities say the items suggest a network possibly involved in identity theft and financial scams.

Checks also showed the three were in Kenya illegally, with expired entry passes and no work permits. They claimed to be “running an online business,” but detectives are probing possible ties to wider cybercrime groups. “The three are currently cooling their heels in custody as investigators dig deeper into their network,” Streamline added.

The suspects remain in custody as forensic teams analyse the seized devices and trace possible links to other operations locally and abroad.

Their arrest comes amid a surge in cyber threats in Kenya. The Communications Authority recorded 2.54 billion incidents between January and March 2025, a major rise from late 2024. Many Kenyans have also fallen victim to phishing emails and fake text messages.

Kenya has strengthened penalties under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018 and its 2025 amendment, which impose fines of up to KSh 20 million and jail terms of up to 10 years for major cyber offences.

The announcement was made on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

Marwa, first appointed by the late President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021, previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse between 2018 and 2020. His renewed tenure means he will lead the NDLEA until 2031.

Commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1973, he held several key roles, including brigade major of the 23 Armoured Brigade, Aide-de-Camp to then Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Theophilus Danjuma, and academic registrar of the NDA. He also served as Deputy Defence Adviser at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, and later as Defence Adviser to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Marwa holds two postgraduate degrees: a Master of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University.

The agency has also intensified nationwide campaigns against drug abuse under his leadership.

President Tinubu praised Marwa’s achievements, describing his reappointment as a vote of confidence and urging him to continue pursuing drug cartels and traffickers seeking to endanger Nigerians, especially the youth.

  • "How can I sit quietly in my office when government officials, including directors, are being attacked and beaten?"
    — Wike defends his clash with Lt. A.M. Yerima

Reacting to the recent incident involving a naval officer, Minister Nyesom Wike expressed concern about the safety and morale of government officials, saying:

“How can I effectively serve as a minister when government officials are being attacked and intimidated? These are public servants, yet they face threats while sitting in their offices, trying to perform their duties. How can they carry out their responsibilities if they feel unprotected?

“I’ve had calls from respected figures like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former President and head of state, or General Theophilus Danjuma, who are retired generals. When they encounter a problem, they call a minister directly. There’s no intimidation, no threat just respect. And I ensure their issues are addressed promptly. That is how respect and protocol work.

“This is very different from situations where serving officers engage in acts of indiscipline. For instance, when a serving major general attacked a control, I immediately wrote a letter to the President and the Chief of Defence Staff, who was the Chief of Army Staff at the time, to address the matter. Everything falls under the authority and control of the military, and proper channels must be observed.

“Before I assumed office, contracts had been awarded to develop areas close to military barracks. Contractors were chased away. I intervened, involving the late Chief of Army Staff, Chief Olabanji, and other relevant defense officials, to find solutions without conflict. I have always respected established processes, and I continue to prioritize resolution through dialogue rather than confrontation.”

  • Troops rescue 74 NYSC members from kidnappers hotspot in Borno.

In a dramatic late-night operation, troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, rescued 74 stranded National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from what could have been a major abduction by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State.

According to the Force’s Media Information Officer, Sani Uba, the incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after the corps members 36 males and 38 females were left stranded when their 3 buses broke down near a notorious kidnapping hotspot.

Uba revealed that troops swiftly moved in after a military surveillance system picked up suspicious movement involving the vehicles.

“On arrival, troops discovered the stranded NYSC members and quickly moved to secure them from a likely Boko Haram or ISWAP attack,” he stated.

The rescued corps members are currently being sheltered at the Buratai military base while arrangements for their safe evacuation are underway.

This latest intervention follows a string of successful counterterrorism operations in Borno, where troops recently rescued 86 kidnapped victims and arrested 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers.

Earlier this week, the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 OPHK intercepted Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters at Dutse Kura, destroying 11 terrorist structures and recovering a cache of weapons, vehicles, and motorcycles.

Security officials have hailed the swift response as a major success in ongoing efforts to protect civilians and dismantle terrorist strongholds in the North East.

  • Lagos to Partially Close Lekki–Ajah Corridor for Eight Months of Road Repairs.

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partially close sections of the Lekki–Ajah corridor for eight months to facilitate major rehabilitation and improvement works aimed at easing traffic congestion.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the project will run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation, which has already begun with preliminary works, will be executed in two phases to minimize disruption.

According to him, the first phase will cover seven sections, during which one lane will be closed while the other remains open to motorists. Once repairs on the first lane are completed, construction will shift to the opposite side.

“Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will continue to have access throughout the construction,” he assured.

For the second phase, vehicles moving from Ajah toward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while work continues on the other. “When the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second. At all times, movement toward Ajah will remain open,” Osiyemi added.

The commissioner noted that some sections of the corridor will experience partial closures during the entire project period.

He appealed to motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials. “We urge road users to obey traffic officers and follow diversion signs as directed. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, smoother journeys for everyone,” he said.

  • “Soludo Will Soon Join APC”, Orji Kalu Declares, Hints at Major Political Realignment in South East

According to a report by Daily Post on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North) has disclosed that Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, is expected to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) soon.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly, Kalu revealed that there have been ongoing interactions between the APC and Governor Soludo as part of strategic political discussions in the South East.

The former Abia governor noted that Soludo shares similar political and developmental ideologies with leading figures in the APC, adding that his policies and governance style in Anambra align closely with the federal government’s reform agenda.

“Soludo is a progressive. He will come to APC. In fact, it is confirmed that he will join APC. He has no other alternative,” Kalu confidently stated.

According to him, the discussions are part of a broader effort to strengthen cooperation and unity within the South East, as regional leaders seek greater participation in national decision-making.

Kalu also praised Soludo’s track record in public service and economic planning, describing him as a technocrat capable of fostering partnerships across party lines.

The senator added that the APC remains open to visionary leaders from all parts of Nigeria who share its development-driven philosophy and are willing to contribute to good governance.

He explained that political realignment is an ongoing process in democracy, noting that leaders continuously assess opportunities that align with their governance goals and state interests.

While he did not announce a formal date for Soludo’s defection, Kalu said stakeholders’ meetings and consultations are ongoing, hinting that a major political shift could unfold ahead of future elections.

  • Senator Orji Kalu Backs Trump’s Statement on Killings in Nigeria, Calls for Urgent National Action

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia North), Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), has supported former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on the killings in Nigeria, describing them as “factual and deeply concerning.”

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Kalu said the scale of violence across the country demands urgent and coordinated action from all levels of government, dismissing claims that such reports were exaggerated or biased.

“Nigerians are being killed, whether they are Christians or Muslims,” he stated. “The violence affects everyone, and it’s time to act decisively.”

The senator identified extremist and militant groups as major perpetrators of the violence, warning that their growing influence threatens Nigeria’s national stability and unity.

He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify intelligence-driven operations and adopt strong legal and administrative measures—including sanctions, blacklisting, and targeted crackdowns—to disrupt extremist networks and stop militants from exploiting local grievances.

While acknowledging international concern over the crisis, Kalu stressed that security remains Nigeria’s responsibility, adding that foreign warnings should inspire domestic resolve.

“External partners can advise, but it’s up to us as Nigerians to restore peace and protect our people,” he said.

Kalu called for unity across religious and ethnic lines, emphasizing that lasting peace will come only when Nigerians stand together against those sowing division and bloodshed.

  • Nnamdi Kanu Seeks Total Nullification of Terr+rism Trial, Citing Repealed Laws, Extraordinary Rendition, and Rights Violation.

Detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the terrorism charges against him and permanently halt his ongoing prosecution.

In a written address supporting a preliminary objection, Kanu argued that his trial is unconstitutional because it is based on a repealed law and an allegedly invalid proscription order. He maintained that the case violates the Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and binding appellate court decisions.

Through his legal team, Kanu is seeking seven major declarations, including a ruling that his prosecution under the defunct Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act 2013 and an ex parte order proscribing IPOB in 2017 is unlawful, null, and void.

The IPOB leader also accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of violating his right to a fair hearing by allegedly monitoring his meetings with lawyers, seizing legal documents, and denying him confidential communication with counsel.

Kanu stressed that with the enactment of the Terr+rism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, which repealed the 2011 and 2013 laws, all terrorism charges brought under the old statutes became legally unenforceable. He referenced Section 98(3) of the 2022 Act and Section 122(2)(a) of the Evidence Act, which compel courts to take judicial notice of repealed laws.

He added that another count brought under the Customs and Excise Management Act is invalid, as the Act was replaced by the Nigerian Customs Service Act 2023.

Describing the ongoing prosecution as a violation of the rule of law, Kanu urged the court to strike out or permanently stay all charges against him. Permitting the trial under repealed legislation, he warned, would render legislative repeal meaningless and undermine constitutional supremacy.

  • 'Under My Watch, America Couldn’t Act in Africa Without Informing Nigeria’ — Fmr. Pres. Obasanjo.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says that during his time as Nigeria’s Head of State, the United States under late President Jimmy Carter did not take any major action in Africa without informing Nigeria.

Obasanjo made the statement on Monday in Abeokuta during the Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat organized by the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

His remarks come amid ongoing reactions to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning that America could deploy troops to Nigeria if the Federal Government fails to stop killing linked to jihadist groups.

The Federal Government has since rejected Trump’s comments, insisting insecurity affects all groups and is being addressed.

While Obasanjo did not mention the controversy directly, he recalled a period when Nigeria was regarded as Africa’s clear leader. He said Nigeria once commanded strong international respect, noting that Carter would always notify Nigeria before any U.S. move in Africa.

“They were not seeking permission, but they would inform us,” he said.

Obasanjo added that his administration and that of the late Gen. Murtala Mohammed restored Nigeria’s global standing after what he described as a loss of confidence following independence.

“At independence, the world saw Nigeria as a giant. Soon after, we lost that. When Muritala and I came in, we brought it back,” he said.

Addressing the youths at the retreat, Obasanjo urged them to be “positively disruptive” to take up leadership roles rather than waiting indefinitely. He cited examples of sit-tight leaders across Africa and cautioned that if youths leave the future to current leaders, “there may be no tomorrow left to inherit.”

“You have the numbers,” he said, “but the number only matters when you use it.”

  • Trump Hosts Syrian President and ex-Jihadist, Al-Sharaa, in First-Ever White House Visit.

US President Donald Trump on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House, marking the first time a Syrian leader has ever visited the presidential residence.

The meeting, which took place without reporters or photo coverage, comes amid ongoing shifts in Syria’s political landscape.

Al-Sharaa, 43, is a former leader of al-Qaeda and was once listed by the US as a wanted t+rrorist, with a $10 million bounty on his head until late 2024. He previously spent time in Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison.

His recent appearance on the global stage has drawn widespread attention. Just weeks ago, he attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York — a move analysts say underscores his evolution from a militant figure to a recognized political leader.

Ahead of his visit, the US government lifted longstanding sanctions on al-Sharaa and removed his global terrorist designation, as well as that of Syria’s interior minister, Anas Khattab.

Trump has previously praised al-Sharaa, referring to him as a “young, attractive guy” with a “very strong past” after the two briefly met during the US president’s Middle East tour earlier this year.

Shortly afterward, Washington began easing some of the economic restrictions imposed on Syria.

Al-Sharaa rose to power in January as part of a transitional arrangement after armed opposition groups launched a major offensive that forced former President Bashar al-Assad to flee to Russia.

As the 25th Chief of Army Staff, we are very proud of your achievements and how far God has brought you. As a people, you have become the coolness of our eyes. We are happy to see Igala rise again to the helm of affairs.

Make sure you don’t fall in the manner other good intentioned Chief’s fell. Take control of your movements and trust nobody in the army.

The horse is prepared for the day of battle but safety is from the Lord. We will continue to pray for you always.

May God guide and protect you brother! congratulations

  • Troops Rescue 86 Kidnap Victims, Destroy Boko Haram Camp in Borno.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 86 kidnapped victims and destroyed a major Boko Haram/ISWAP camp in the Buratai–Kamuya area of Borno State.

The operation was carried out on Sunday by the 135 Special Forces Battalion following surveillance alerts of terrorists abducting civilians along the route.

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, the troops at Echo 1 in Dutse Kura came under heavy attack around 3:52 pm.
A Quick Response Force was deployed to reinforce them, successfully repelling the terrorists and pursuing them toward the Mangari axis.

During the pursuit, the insurgents attempted to flee with kidnapped civilians in two vehicles, but troops ambushed them, forcing the terrorists to abandon the victims.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a Boko Haram/ISWAP camp, where 86 captives — men, women and children — were rescued unharmed.

Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, five magazines loaded with 73 rounds, PKT ammunition belts, five civilian cars, five motorcycles, eight bicycles and two tricycles. The camp was destroyed.

In a separate operation the same day, troops at Delta 1 in Mangada arrested 29 suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers. Eight of them were identified as active couriers.

Seized items included two pickup vans and a tricycle loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, 38 jerry cans of fuel, engine oil, medical supplies, food items and two new gun-truck tyres.

The suspects and recovered items have been handed over for further investigation. Military sources say the latest operations are part of intensified efforts to cut off terrorists supply chains and limit their movement in the North-East.
