  • Wahala Don Set Oo! Fire Guts Ogun Free Trade Zone, Nearby Homes Affected After Suspected Gas Explosion

Wahala don really burst for Ogun State oo! A massive fire has rocked the Ogun State Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, leaving businesses in ruins and spreading fear to nearby residential areas.

The inferno reportedly started inside the industrial park on Sunday, and before anyone could react, the flames had already spread dangerously close to people’s homes. Residents say the fire caused panic as thick smoke filled the air and properties were threatened.

Although authorities are yet to release an official statement on what caused the blaze, a resident told Vanguard that the fire may have been triggered by a gas explosion at a foam-producing factory within the zone.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread with alarming speed, overwhelming the area before emergency responders could gain full control of the situation.

A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), shared by Temitope Hassan, shows firefighters battling the raging flames, underlining the seriousness of the incident.

As at the time of filing this report, the Ogun State Fire Service and other emergency agencies have not confirmed whether there were casualties or the full extent of the damage. However, residents in nearby communities say several homes were affected, and many are still counting their losses.

For now, Ogun residents are left asking questions as authorities investigate the cause of the disaster.

One thing be clear: wahala don set for Igbesa Free Trade Zone oo!

  • Is Ebonyi Government Threatening Community Land and Mineral Rights? Host Communities Petition Gov. Nwifuru Over Nigercem Dispute

Host communities of the Nigerian Cement Company (Nigercem Plc) in Ebonyi State have petitioned Governor Francis Nwifuru over what they describe as growing threats to their land, mineral resources and legally established rights. The communities, through a petition dated January 7, 2026 and signed by Dr. Sulaiman Usman, SAN, accused unnamed political actors of attempting to undermine existing court judgments and community consents under the pretext of building a new state-owned cement plant.

In the petition addressed to the governor at the Ebonyi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, the communities warned that recent developments could “gravely prejudice” their proprietary rights and destabilize the lawful future of Nigercem Plc. They recalled that Ibeto Group lawfully acquired majority shares in Nigercem in 2010, but that the Ebonyi State Government under former Governor Martin Elechi allegedly revoked the company’s mining lease, a move they resisted through litigation.

According to the petition, prolonged court battles ended in 2013 with judgments in favour of Ibeto Group and the host communities. The communities said they supported the investor because earlier plans to site a new cement plant outside their area would have reduced them to mere limestone suppliers without benefiting from the economic and social gains of hosting a functioning cement factory.

While welcoming Governor Nwifuru’s campaign pledge to work with Ibeto Group to revive Nigercem, the communities expressed disappointment that a 15-member committee set up in August 2025 has yet to publicly present its findings. Their concerns deepened after the governor announced plans during the 2026 budget presentation to borrow ₦150 billion to build a new state-owned cement plant, despite the existence of Nigercem Plc.

The petition further alleged that some political office holders from the host clan were pressured on December 31, 2025, to sign a fresh consent letter purportedly revoking earlier agreements with Ibeto Group. The communities described this development as “deeply unsettling,” adding that the proposed site for the new plant lacks commercially viable limestone deposits and would still depend on resources from their land.

They also rejected what they called an “unauthorised and self-appointed committee” allegedly acting in their name, warning that they would resist any attempt to reduce Nigercem to a mere limestone excavation zone or to bypass existing legal rights through political manipulation.

In their appeal, the communities urged Governor Nwifuru to halt any action affecting ownership, mineral rights or control of Nigercem Plc and to convene an inclusive town hall meeting involving traditional rulers, professionals, youth and women groups, religious leaders and other stakeholders to transparently determine the company’s future.

As of the time of filing, the Ebonyi State Government had not issued an official response. However, the communities said they remain open to dialogue, expressing confidence in the governor’s sense of justice and statesmanship.

The unfolding dispute raises critical questions about resource control, investor confidence, community rights, and state-government intervention in Nigeria’s extractive sector. Observers warn that failure to address the grievances transparently could trigger renewed legal battles and social tensions in Ebonyi State.

  • China takes home about $16 billion from Nigeria every year — that’s roughly $44 million every single day.

Based on official data (Chinese Customs, Nigeria’s NBS & UN COMTRADE — Oct. 2025 updates):

    Where the money comes from

    1️⃣ Imports into Nigeria (≈ 86%)
    • Nigeria bought $18.9bn of Chinese goods in 2024 — machinery, phones, vehicles, textiles, solar
    • 2025 Jan–Sept already $14.2bn → full-year trend ~$19bn

(Local customs recorded N14.15trn ≈ $8.8bn @ N1,600/$ — but COMTRADE confirms higher USD valuation.)

    2️⃣ Nigeria’s exports to China (≈ 14%)
    • China purchased just $3bn of Nigerian crude, LNG, sesame, copper in 2024
    • 2025 spike: +236% growth → $1.8bn Jan–Sept

    3️⃣ Construction & loans
    • Chinese contractors executed $2.1bn of roads/rail (e.g., Lagos–Ibadan line, Lekki Port)
    • Interest on Belt-and-Road loans: ~$250m/year (Nigeria still owes $5.3bn)

    The totals
    • 2024: $21.3bn China–Nigeria flows
    • 2025: ~$22bn projected

The imbalance — Nigeria bleeds cash
    • Nigeria → China: $3bn (oil, agricultural goods)
    • China → Nigeria: $19bn (phones, cement, electronics)

➡ China walks away with a $16bn net surplus every year
➡ 80% of the value stays in China

    Hard numbers to digest
    • $16bn = 4× the entire Nigeria 2025 education budget
    • Just one Chinese phone factory in Ogun ships $1.2bn profit back yearly
    • Huawei alone secured $1.8bn in Nigerian government contracts in 2024
    • Nigeria owes China more than World Bank debt on key infrastructure

    The bottom line

China extracts $16 billion NET from Nigeria annually —
the biggest one-way financial pipeline in Africa.

That’s the real definition of “win-win” — and China wins twice.

Based on official data (Chinese Customs, Nigeria’s NBS & UN COMTRADE — Oct. 2025 updates): ⸻ ✅ Where the money comes from 1️⃣ Imports into Nigeria (≈ 86%) • Nigeria bought $18.9bn of Chinese goods in 2024 — machinery, phones, vehicles, textiles, solar • 2025 Jan–Sept already $14.2bn → full-year trend ~$19bn (Local customs recorded N14.15trn ≈ $8.8bn @ N1,600/$ — but COMTRADE confirms higher USD valuation.) 2️⃣ Nigeria’s exports to China (≈ 14%) • China purchased just $3bn of Nigerian crude, LNG, sesame, copper in 2024 • 2025 spike: +236% growth → $1.8bn Jan–Sept 3️⃣ Construction & loans • Chinese contractors executed $2.1bn of roads/rail (e.g., Lagos–Ibadan line, Lekki Port) • Interest on Belt-and-Road loans: ~$250m/year (Nigeria still owes $5.3bn) ⸻ ✅ The totals • 2024: $21.3bn China–Nigeria flows • 2025: ~$22bn projected ⸻ ❌ The imbalance — Nigeria bleeds cash • Nigeria → China: $3bn (oil, agricultural goods) • China → Nigeria: $19bn (phones, cement, electronics) ➡ China walks away with a $16bn net surplus every year ➡ 80% of the value stays in China ⸻ 🤯 Hard numbers to digest • $16bn = 4× the entire Nigeria 2025 education budget • Just one Chinese phone factory in Ogun ships $1.2bn profit back yearly • Huawei alone secured $1.8bn in Nigerian government contracts in 2024 • Nigeria owes China more than World Bank debt on key infrastructure ⸻ 🔍 The bottom line China extracts $16 billion NET from Nigeria annually — the biggest one-way financial pipeline in Africa. That’s the real definition of “win-win” — and China wins twice.

Over 100 suspects including the owner of the club, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, alias Pretty Mike, were arrested and taken into custody for screening.

Cartons of illicit substances including Loud, and laughing gas, were recovered from suspects at the party and the club’s store.

NDLEA operatives who were embedded in the party between 11:00 pm on Saturday 25th October however disrupted the gathering at 3:00 am on Sunday 26th October based on Standard Operating Procedures, SOPs.

A total of 70 parcels of cocaine factory packed in walls of cocoa butter formula body cream containers heading to London, United Kingdom have been uncovered at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with three suspects arrested in series of follow-up operations across Lagos.

  • NBA Offers Free Legal Aid to Nigerians harassed by Police officers Over Tinted Glass Permits.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has pledged free legal support to Nigerians hara§§ed by the police over the controversial tinted glass permit, describing the policy as “illegal” and revenue-driven.

In a statement, Olukunle Edun (SAN), Chairman of the NBA’s Public Interest Litigation Committee, said, “We shall invoke the powers of the court to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force does not trample on the rights of Nigerians. Any citizen hara§§ed in the purported enforcement of the illegal tinted glass permit should contact any NBA branch.”

He added that the Human Rights Committees of the association’s 130 branches are ready to provide pro bono services, warning that the police could extort up to N3bn monthly under the scheme.

The NBA reminded the Inspector General of Police in a letter dated October 2, 2025, that the matter is already before the Federal High Court in Abuja (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1821/2025). The case challenges the legality of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Decree 1991 and seeks to restrain the police from arrests, harassment, or extortion.

NBA lawyer Godspower Eroga alleged that the police planned to divert proceeds into a private account instead of the Treasury Single Account, arguing the cited law sets no measurable standards for tinting and is incompatible with factory-fitted windows. He also noted that senior officers freely drive SUVs with dark tints.

The NBA insisted the policy amounts to “taxation without legislation,” stressing that the police are not a revenue agency. It condemned the impoundment of Justice O. A. Ogunbowale’s vehicle in Asaba on the first day of enforcement, calling it “an embarrassing and avoidable situation.”

The body lamented that its urgent application for an injunction was not heard due to court vacation, urging judges to act in public interest, “The judiciary’s authority and integrity are best protected when it prevents chaos, even if it means bending a procedural rule.”

  • Police begin enforcement of tinted glass, siren regulations in Edo, Delta.

The Zone Five Police Command have begun enforcing the ban on the unauthorised use of sirens and tinted glass permit regulations.

NAN reports that the zone five command located in the South-south Geo-political Zone comprises Edo and Delta.

This is contained in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tijani Momoh, in Abuja.

The exercise, the command said, is in line with the existing laws and directives of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, which apply to all vehicles with tinted glasses, whether factory or non-factory fitted.

Momoh quoted the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Salma-Dogo Garba, as saying that the enforcement would also affect the subsisting ban on the unauthorised use of sirens.

According to Garba, there will also be strict enforcement on the use of revolving lights, Police SPY and unallocated official number plates, as well as the use of unregistered vehicles.

“In view of the above, motorists yet to register their vehicles with tinted glasses are strongly advised to do so at www.possap.gov.ng.

“Thereafter, they should proceed to their state command headquarters for physical verification.

“Those who are not desirous of obtaining the tinted glass permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.”

  • Fintter News: DICON Confirms Kaduna Factory Explosion, One Dead, Others Injured

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) has confirmed the explosion reported earlier by SaharaReporters at its Kaduna factory, which left one person dead and several others injured.

    What Happened

In a statement signed by spokesperson Maria Sambo, DICON revealed that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Ordnance Factory Disposal Pit.

The corporation explained that the explosion was linked to the destruction of expired production materials stored in old bunkers. These included Ammonia Nitrates, primer caps, propellants, and other chemicals that had exceeded their lifespan.

    Ongoing Disposal Efforts

According to DICON, controlled disposal of the expired items began in July 2025. While most of the materials — including all ammonia nitrates — had already been destroyed, the blast occurred during the final phase of clearing the remaining items.

    Casualties

One staff member died in the explosion.

Several others sustained injuries and are currently being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary.

DICON emphasized that it remains committed to ensuring safety and will continue reviewing its disposal processes to prevent such tragedies in the future.
