The family of twin teenagers abducted in Edo State after the killing of their father, Andrew Ilabeshi, has disputed police claims that the victims were rescued unharmed. According to the family, the twins, Emmanuel and Emmanuella, both 16, were only released after a ransom was paid to their kidnappers.
Gunmen reportedly attacked the Ilabeshi family on December 11 at Kalabar Quarters, Afokpella, Etsako East LGA, leaving the father dead and abducting the twins. The Edo State Police Command previously stated that the twins were rescued by security operatives, but the family insists the release was negotiated through ransom payments.
The victims were reportedly traumatized by their ordeal, and the family criticized local security efforts, urging both state and federal governments to intensify measures against kidnappings. Community vigilance, according to the family, has proven insufficient in addressing the rise in violent abductions in the area.

Court To Deliver Judgment In FIRS Official’s Alleged N2bn Fraud Case 8th December.

The trial of Emmanuella Eteta Ita, Head of Stakeholders Unit of the Federal Inland Revenue Services, FIRS and her Surestart School Limited before Justice Giwa Ogunbanjo of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, with the judge slating December 8, 2025, for judgment.

Ita and Surestart School Ltd are standing trial on 25-count charges, bordering on criminal misappropriation, diversion, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering to the tune of N2bn.

The counsel to Ita, Paul Erokoro, SAN, called the attention of the court to his final address, dated December 10, 2014 and urged the court to dismiss the prosecution`s application and resolve the matter in favour of the defendant based on alleged claim of failure of the prosecution to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He stated again that “On the receipt of the prosecution`s final address, the first defendant filed a reply dated 13th June 2025 and I hereby adopt the reply on point of law as the first defendant’s answer to the issues raised by the first defendant’s final written address. Once again, we urge your lordship to discharge and acquit the first defendant and we want to add that the prosecution refunds the N19.5m paid to the EFCC so that she can pay the money back to the lenders,” he said

In response, prosecuting counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN informed the court of his final written address of January 10, 2025, filed the same date, served and adopted on June 16, 2025 and urged the court to convict the defendant as the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He further drew the attention of the court to his written reply, stating, “If my lord finds the reply on the point of law to the prosecution’s final written address as an opportunity to re-argue issues canvassed in the main written address, consequently we urge your lordship to strike out their request”

Justice Ogunbanjo adjourned the matter till December 8,2025, for delivery of judgment.

University Lecturer who beat up female student for snatching daughter's lover, sent prison.

A senior lecturer at the Federal University of Lafia, Dr Fred Ayokahi, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for assaulting a 20-year-old student, Blessing Mathias. He had been captured on camera on camera alongside his children assaulting the young woman. While he was given a 6 months jail time, his kids are on probation.

A lecturer at the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Fred Ayokhai, has been jailed for assaulting a female student, Blessing Mathias, who allegedly snatched his daughter’s lover.

Recall that there was a viral video in October 2022, where Ayokhai molested Blessing by ripping off her singlet with scissors.Mathias was also flogged and dropped off naked in the bush.

Ayokhai and his daughter Emmanuella were subsequently detained by the police for allegedly planning the assault on Mathias for “snatching” her partner. The lecturer was accused with criminal conspiracy, burglary, kidnapping, voluntarily causing great bodily injury without provocation, and assault.

His children, Bob-Praise, and Saint-Dan were added to the lawsuit as the second, third, and fourth defendants.AU Idris, the defendants’ attorney, addressed the court with an offer for a plea bargain despite the fact that the defendants had entered a not guilty plea during the prosecution.

In his ruling on Thursday, Solomon Ayenajeh, the presiding judge of the Nasarawa State High Court, found the first defendant guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison for criminal conspiracy and an additional six months for assault.The charges are to run concurrently.

The judge added that the six months that Ayokhai spent in the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (NCoS) custody will be counted.In his decision about the children’s offense, the judge stated that given their age, they would be placed on probation for six months.

The judge said they will be punished with keeping the premises of the Nasarawa State High Court clean during their sentence.Ayenajeh also directed the third defendant, Bob-Praise, to shave his dreadlocks.

In his speech, Ayokhai thanked the judge and parties in the matter for the consideration and the leniency accorded him. He added that he has taken steps to recompense the victim as part of the plea bargain arrangement.
