Joy is coming: FG Cash Transfers Reach 5.5 Million Nigerian Households

At least 5.5 million Nigerian households are currently receiving cash transfers from the Federal Government, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, has revealed.

Speaking at the inaugural National Steering Committee meeting of the Act Naija project in Abuja on Tuesday, Dr. Doro, represented by his aide Abimbola Fasanu, said the ministry is focused on strengthening social protection systems to tackle poverty, vulnerability, and humanitarian challenges across the country.

“Key programmes include Conditional Cash Transfer, the Grant for Vulnerable Groups, N-POWER, GEEP, Homegrown School Feeding, and National Social Safety-Net Coordination,” he said. “Over 19.78 million households have been verified in the National Social Register, while 5.5 million households currently benefit from cash transfers.

Micro-credit schemes are also supporting livelihoods for over 5 million Nigerians, with strong participation from women and youth in all 774 local government areas.” Dr. Doro added that the ministry is working with stakeholders to review and update the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP), ensuring it reflects evolving socio-economic realities and aligns with government priorities.

On the Act Naija Project, he said the committee is critical to guiding efforts across stakeholders, promoting transparency, and delivering measurable impact for vulnerable households. He called on members to serve with professionalism, dedication, and integrity.

Rev. David Ugolor, Executive Director of the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), described the committee’s inauguration as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s social protection system and ensuring that no citizen is left behind.

ADC Breaks Silence on Headquarters Controversy — “Atiku Was Only a Tenant”

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially clarified the ownership status of its newly commissioned national headquarters in Abuja, following public speculation tying the building to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to Symfoni TV (Monday, November 17, 2025), ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed that Atiku once occupied the property—but strictly as a tenant during his presidential campaign.

Abdullahi emphasized that Atiku never owned the building, and that his lease had since expired, clearing the way for the ADC to take over legally.

He stated:

“It’s true, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar used to be the tenant of this building for his presidential campaign. When his tenancy lapsed, the African Democratic Congress became the new tenant. At no time did this building belong to Atiku Abubakar.”

The party further stressed that their move into the building is purely a commercial tenancy and should not be interpreted as a new political alignment or merger beyond the existing coalition framework.

Abdullahi added:

“He leased it for the purpose of his campaign, that lease has ceased, and now the tenancy is occupied by the African Democratic Congress.”

The reaction of the former Vice President was contained in a report that was published on the official X handle of Vanguard on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

This is coming after the FCT Minister had a dispute with the military personnel while trying to access a land in Abuja.

In the report that surfaced online, Atiku's media aide, Paul Ibe stated that the report claiming that the former Vice President gifted the officer a brand new SUV is false and misleading. Ibe said the report emanated from mischief makers to tarnish the image of Atiku Abubakar.

Sowore’s Arrest Inside Courtroom Is An Open Assault On Democracy – Atiku.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to order the immediate release of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who was arrested in Abuja.

Sowore was taken into custody by security officers at the Federal High Court in Abuja after meeting with detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

His arrest came just days after he organised a nationwide protest tagged #FreeNnamdiKanuNow on October 20, calling for Kanu’s unconditional release.

The protest was disrupted by security agents who used teargas to scatter demonstrators.

Several participants, including Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Emmanuel Kanu, were detained alongside others. Sowore, who initially escaped, was later arrested at the court on October 23.

Reacting to the incident, Atiku, in a tweet, condemned Sowore’s arrest, describing it as a shameful attack on democracy and the rule of law.
