• Court strikes out Saraki’s suit for protection against EFCC, ICPC, others.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, struck out two separate suits filed by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to seek court protection against the plan by EFCC to probe him.

Justice Mohammed Umar struck out the two cases following a notice of discontinuance of the suits sighted in the court record and after no lawyer appeared for parties at the resumed hearing.

The former Senate president had filed the suits following the EFCC’s decision in 2019 to probe Saraki’s earnings between 2003 and 2011 when he was governor of Kwara.

The anti-graft commission was reported to have seized some of his houses in the Ikoyi area of Lagos then.

However, Saraki, on May 10, 2019, filed the two separate suits, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/507/2019 and FHC/ABJ/CS/508/2019, before retired Justice Taiwo Taiwo to challenge the action of the EFCC.

The ex-Senate president named the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Inspector-General (I-G) of Police and State Security Service (SSS) are 1st to 3rd defendants.

Others are EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as 4th to 6th respondents respectively.

Justice Taiwo, who was the presiding judge then, had ruled on an ex-parte application filed along with the substantive suits.

  • Subsidy fraud: Otedola slams N1bn suit on Sani, asks Tinubu to release Aig-Imoukhuede report.

Nigerian businessman, Femi Otedola, has said that he has instructed his lawyers to file a N1 billion libel suit against Umar Sani, a former aide to Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The development followed allegations made by Sani, linking Otedola to the fuel subsidy fraud under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

In response to Otedola’s allegation that “over N2 trillion was siphoned through questionable subsidy claims under the Jonathan administration”, Sani had claimed that “Otedola himself enjoyed enormous privileges during the era”.

Sani equally accused Otedola of engaging in “hypocritical, selective, and convenient rewriting of history”.

However, in a statement released late on Sunday night, Otedola described Sani’s claims as “malicious lies”.

Recalling his role in exposing the subsidy scam, Otedola said he was the first to alert former President Goodluck Jonathan and then Senate President Bukola Saraki of the fraud at the time, wondering how he could be accused of benefiting from the same scam he blew the whistle on.

Dismissing Sani’s attempts to link him with the subsidy scandal, Otedola declared that his company, Zenon Petroleum, never traded in petrol and therefore could not have accessed the subsidy funds.

Announcing his decision to sue the former presidential aide over the alleged defamatory remarks, Otedola insisted that he would not allow anyone to toy with his hard-earned reputation.

  • Personality, Not Party, Will Decide 2027 Elections – Prof Ahmad

Professor Ahmad has said that the 2027 general elections will not be decided by party loyalty but by the strength of individual personalities.

On the State of the PDP

Speaking on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he emphasized that the party remains strong despite past setbacks:

“We are still in PDP. We are not planning to leave. The party may rise and fall, but right now PDP is rising. We are preparing for our convention in Ibadan, and we will move forward.”

When asked about governors who left the party, Ahmad insisted:

“Governors don’t make parties; parties make governors. People make parties, not individuals.”

    On Court Cases After Elections

Addressing concerns that the PDP failed to challenge election results in 2019 and 2023, he clarified that the party did, in fact, go to court:

“In 2023, several local governments, including mine, went to court. I personally went to court. Anyone claiming PDP didn’t go to court is not telling the truth.”

He recalled irregularities during collation in his local government, saying results were altered but not announced at the collation center because officials feared public backlash.

On Bukola Saraki and APC Rumors

Responding to claims that former Senate President Bukola Saraki was aligning with the APC, Ahmad dismissed the reports:

“These are fantastic lies. Saraki has invested his time and energy in rebuilding PDP. If he had anything to do with Tinubu or APC, PDP would have collapsed by now. The ADC narrative was just a flash in the pan.”

He added that PDP remains open to reconciliation with other groups:

“PDP has a large heart. Our friends in ADC or elsewhere are welcome. Let’s work together to rescue this state and the country from APC.”

    On 2027 Elections

Ahmad predicted that Nigerians will prioritize individual credibility over party lines in 2027:

“People will look at candidates and say, ‘You are good, but not in my party, yet I will vote for you.’ Or, ‘You are in my party, but you are not good, so I won’t vote for you.’ Party loyalty will not decide 2027—it will be about personality.”

On Electoral Reforms and Tinubu’s Legacy

Ahmad stressed the need for credible elections to restore faith in democracy. He urged President Tinubu to enshrine Immediate Result Electronic Filing (IREF) into the constitution:

“From the polling unit, results should be uploaded directly to INEC’s portal. That alone will stop manipulation. Forget long lists of amendments—just constitutionalize IREF, and Nigeria’s democracy will change forever.”

He warned that without credible elections, democracy in Nigeria would continue to lose respect internationally.

“If President Tinubu truly loves Nigeria, he should deliver electoral reforms. That will be his lasting legacy.”

  • Love, Luxury & Legacy: Inside Davido & Chioma’s $3.7M Miami Fairytale #Chivido2025

Miami, USA – August 2025: Afrobeats megastar Davido and his longtime love Chioma Rowland have sealed their union in a jaw-dropping $3.7 million white wedding that has set social media ablaze and etched itself into Nigerian pop culture history.

The Miami spectacle, tagged #Chivido2025, marked the grand finale of a love journey spanning years — from their private court wedding in March 2023 to a lavish Lagos traditional ceremony in June 2024. With diamond rings worth “two or three Rolls-Royce cars” and a guest list boasting Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, the event was equal parts romance and royalty.

Beyond the glitz, emotion ran deep. Davido’s vows — “You are my love, my peace, my home” — moved guests to tears, while custom cufflinks engraved with the face of their late son Ifeanyi served as a poignant tribute.

Fashion stole the spotlight too: Davido in a regal deep-brown suit, Chioma in a shimmering white gown, and groomsmen in camel-brown — all against Miami’s golden glow. Guests were barred from wearing white or cream, ensuring the couple’s shine remained unmatched.

While fans hailed the wedding as a testament to enduring love, critics questioned the extravagance amid Nigeria’s economic struggles. Still, the ceremony’s heart was undeniable — a love tested by loss, strengthened by resilience, and celebrated on the world stage.

Melaye, who was formerly with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resigned his membership from the party and joined the ADC on Thursday, July 31.

A staunch supporter and loyalist to ex-vice president Atiku Abubakar, Melaye who was a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, said he has an indestructible relationship with the former.

He, however, explained that such a relationship cannot stop him from having his personal ideologies or following his principles about life.

“I have won elections in this country, from the House of Representatives to the Senate; if there is a convergence of ideologies with Atiku Abubakar, it is a fantastic thing. But I am a man of my own,” Melaye said.

Giving instances, the ex-lawmaker said, he is friends with the former Senate president, Bukola Saraki but never supported his presidential ambition.

His words, “Bukola Saraki is my friend and still my friend; he ran for presidency and I didn’t support him and that did not have any negative concomitant effect on our friendship.

“It is greater to be loyal to humanity than to be loyal to your friends because, at the end of the day, it is the people that matter. And I move with the people.
