BREAKING: Lagos Task Force Sparks Outrage After Houses Set Ablaze in Oworonshoki During Alleged Illegal Demolition
Residents of Oworonshoki were thrown into chaos early Tuesday morning when operatives of the Lagos State Task Force reportedly set several houses on fire during what locals describe as an illegal demolition exercise. Witnesses said the task force arrived at dawn in multiple vehicles, accompanied by bulldozers positioned near residential buildings, creating widespread panic.
The presence of heavy machinery raised fears that a new round of demolitions was about to begin. Many residents accused the state government of attempting to defy an existing court order that prohibits further demolitions until legal disputes over land ownership and relocation are resolved.
“They are about to commence demolition,” a resident said. “They want to defy the court order.”
Families who had only recently begun recovering from previous demolitions expressed shock and frustration as they alleged that the government was determined to force them out of the community despite the ongoing legal protections.
