• Lagos govt probes LASAA staff for allegedly diverting public funds.

The Lagos State Government has commenced a formal investigation into allegations of financial misconduct involving a staff member of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, LASAA, accused of diverting official payments into a personal bank account.

The probe followed a public outcry on X, where a user alleged that payments meant for LASAA were being made into an individual’s Opay account.

The whistleblower, identified as @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue), claimed that customers were being charged N45,000, but issued receipts reflecting only N7,100.

The user tagged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, calling for immediate action.

In a swift response, Commissioner Wahab confirmed that the individual linked to the allegations is an employee of LASAA.

He directed that the staff member report to the agency’s headquarters for immediate disciplinary action.

“My attention has been drawn to a post alleging improper transaction practices involving a staff member of an agency under our ministry. I have instructed that the officer appear at the agency’s head office tomorrow to face disciplinary proceedings,” Wahab said.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to accountability, integrity, and transparency in public service, warning that unethical behaviour would not be tolerated.

  • Nnamdi Kanu Opens Defence, Lists 23 Witnesses Including Wike, Sanwo-Olu and Ex-Military Chiefs.

Detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has agreed to open his defence, marking a major turn in his long-running trial.

This comes just hours after protests in parts of Abuja led by Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, calling for Kanu’s release.

Kanu had earlier filed a motion challenging the court’s jurisdiction, but in a fresh application on Tuesday, October 21, he informed Justice James Omotosho that he was ready to defend himself, citing a previous court order directing him to begin on October 24, 2025.

He revealed plans to call 23 witnesses divided into two groups—“ordinary but material witnesses” and “vital and compellable witnesses”—to testify under Section 232 of the Evidence Act.

He also requested 90 days to conclude his defence, indicating he may now be representing himself instead of his legal team led by Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN).

Among those he intends to summon as witnesses are former Defence Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), ex-Army Chief Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Works Minister Dave Umahi, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami (SAN), and ex-NIA DG Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.

Kanu said he would personally testify to “deny the allegations” and explain the political context of his actions, assuring the court that he would not waste its time and that “justice must be seen to be done.”

Meanwhile, on the same day, a magistrate court in Abuja ordered the remand of Kanu’s special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and 12 others who joined the protests demanding his release.

They face charges of conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and public disturbance, and will appear in court again on October 24.

  • “Seyi Tinubu Didn’t Add My Video Because of My English!” — Lege Miami Speaks Out on Birthday Tribute Snub

Popular Nigerian actor and matchmaker, Lege Miami, whose real name is Adams Kehinde, has finally addressed his absence from the viral birthday tribute video made for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The trending tribute, which featured some of Nigeria’s biggest personalities — including Burna Boy, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Olamide Badoo — left fans wondering why Lege, a self-proclaimed close associate of Seyi, was not included.

Many social media users teased Lege Miami over the omission, prompting the actor to respond. In a new video, Lege revealed that his “poor English” was the reason his clip didn’t make it into the final cut.

“Because I cannot speak good English, Seyi did not add my video to the post,” he said jokingly, adding that people should not blame Seyi for the decision.

However, reactions flooded social media, with some fans disagreeing with Lege’s explanation.

    @mz_lara commented:

“I don’t think it’s because you can’t speak English. Even market women and Amala sellers spoke Yoruba in the video. You need to stop being controversial; that’s why people avoid associating with you.”

    @kenny_alert added:

“Your problem is not bad English but low self-esteem. Let that go, and you’ll realize you’re fine the way you are.”

While some mocked his grammar — quoting his line “Seyi is not added my video” — others defended him, calling him a loyal friend who always stands by Seyi Tinubu.

    One fan wrote:

“A true friend will love you no matter how dull you are. Seyi should appreciate Lege — he’s always had his back.”

Despite the teasing, Lege Miami took the criticism in stride, laughing off the remarks and keeping his trademark humor alive.

The demonstration, which began around 10:00 a.m. on Friday, was led by the Take It Back Movement and several other civil society groups.

Protesters began converging as early as 7:30 a.m. at Ikeja Bridge before proceeding towards Alausa, carrying placards with inscriptions such as ‘Stop the Demolitions’ and ‘End Hunger Now’.

The groups accused the state government of worsening hardship through what they described as “anti-poor” policies, citing the demolitions in Oworonshoki and other parts of Lagos that have displaced families without alternative housing or adequate notice.

Security operatives, including police officers and personnel of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, have been deployed around the Alausa axis to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

As of the time of filing this report, the protesters had reached the Secretariat area, chanting solidarity songs and demanding to meet with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu or his representatives.

  • Widow seeks governor, lawmakers’ intervention over Jakande estate apartment demolition.

A Widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Adetoun Ajibola, who lost her husband, Major Olatokunbo Mohammed Ajibola, on September 26, 1992, in the ill-fated military plane crash in Ejigbo, Lagos, has appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state House of Assembly to help correct the injustice being done to them (she and the two).

According to Ajibola, her late husband was among the military officers who died in the mishap that occurred in the ill-fated September 26, 1992 C-130 military aircraft crash at Ejigbo, Lagos State.

As a result of the incident, she was left to raise two sons, but while pondering how to navigate the burden, Lagos State government came to her aid like other widows through the allocation of a three-bedroom flat at LMB Estate, Isolo, Block 1, flat 4, otherwise known as Jakande LSPDC Estate, Isolo, Lagos.

“This help cannot be quantified, as it solved the immediate issue of shelter,” she said. åWith this provision of a roof over their heads, she added, “my children and I will remain forever grateful to the Lagos State government.”

Fate, however, dealt the family another blow, when sometime in December 2012, the allocated premises had to be demolished owing to structural defects discovered in some of the surrounding buildings, leading to the later demolition of their building around this period.

“While some widows brought together by the same fate were lucky, and were paid the princely sum of N200,000, and additionally got new allocations, my children and I strangely were not considered, because my flat was in a different building.”

Ajibola disclosed that several efforts to get the error corrected did not yield result including appeals and letters written to past governors such as Babatunde Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode, taken up pro-bono by different lawyers at different times between 2012 till date have not yielded result.

She added that letters were also written to the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, but none of the agencies followed through to ensure that the omission was corrected.

  • Soyinka honoured as Tinubu unveils N68bn refurbished national theatre.

In a ceremony that also marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the National Arts Theatre in Iganmu was officially recommissioned on 1 October 2025 and renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, following a multi-year public–private restoration.

The restored complex, whose silhouette has been preserved while its interiors were transformed, now houses world-class performance halls, cinema spaces, exhibition galleries, an African literature library, rehearsal rooms, media and medical facilities, landscaped grounds, and direct integration with the Lagos Blue Line rail.

Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, said the project was delivered through an extraordinary partnership between the Central Bank, the Bankers’ Committee, the Federal Government, and the Lagos State Government. He noted that the Bankers’ Committee committed approximately ₦68 billion to the project, framing the funding as a deliberate investment in the nation’s cultural future rather than a mere act of corporate social responsibility.

“This is more than a renovation; it is a rebirth,” Mr Cardoso said, adding that the centre must be protected to prevent a return to years of neglect.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State described the reopening as a homecoming for a city that hosted FESTAC ’77. He said the state played a key role by ensuring a dedicated Blue Line stop and contributing additional land to expand the creative hub. “Today’s commissioning is only the beginning,” he said, urging that the complex become a focal point for artistic excellence and urban renewal.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who performed the commissioning, urged Nigerians to speak positively about the country and to “lift Nigeria” by believing in its potential. The President also pledged to contribute to an endowment fund to guarantee maintenance, accessibility, and job creation at the centre.

Professor Wole Soyinka, who expressed mixed feelings about having his name affixed to a public monument, accepted the honour and reflected on the theatre’s storied past, from its 1976 completion and FESTAC ’77 glory to the decades of decline that preceded the restoration. “If a group of bankers got together, using some of my money also… in order to honour me, what’s wrong with that?” he joked, before urging that the centre serve future generations of artists.

Officials and cultural stakeholders lauded the project as a tangible union of culture and commerce, an effort to harness Nigeria’s creative industries for jobs, revenue, and soft power. With renewed facilities and a declared commitment to upkeep, the Wole Soyinka Centre is being positioned as a national landmark intended to keep Nigeria’s creative voice on the global stage.

  • Ambode Comeback Crusaders Urge APC to Consider Former Governor for 2027 Lagos Governorship Race

A political support group known as the Ambode Comeback Crusaders has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

In a letter dated September 28, 2025, and addressed to the APC National Chairman as well as the Lagos State Chairman, the group’s convener, Abiodun Fashola, highlighted Ambode’s achievements during his tenure from 2015 to 2019. He noted that Lagos recorded significant progress under Ambode’s administration in areas such as road infrastructure, transportation reforms, and healthcare delivery.

Fashola described Ambode as a technocrat whose expertise in finance helped consolidate Lagos’s reputation as Nigeria’s economic hub. He added that Ambode governed with inclusivity, encouraging dialogue with citizens and maintaining close engagement with stakeholders across different sectors.

“As deliberations continue on the party’s choice of candidate, I urge the leadership to reflect on the long-term benefits of giving Ambode another opportunity. His track record and progressive vision align with APC’s ideals,” the letter partly read.

The Crusaders argued that Ambode’s return would not only revive Lagos’s development blueprint but also demonstrate the APC’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy. They emphasized that a second term would allow him to complete abandoned projects and restore confidence among Lagosians who desire continuity in governance.

Copies of the letter were reportedly sent to key figures including President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.

Ambode, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, served one term as Lagos governor before losing the APC primary ticket in 2018 to Sanwo-Olu. Since leaving office in 2019, he has kept a low political profile. However, renewed calls such as this suggest that momentum may be building around a possible comeback.

Political observers note that while Ambode’s administration was applauded for bold infrastructural projects, some party stakeholders at the time criticized him for being “distant from the grassroots.” His supporters, however, maintain that his technocratic style positioned Lagos as a model of urban governance.

With the 2027 election approaching, analysts believe Ambode’s possible candidacy could test the APC’s ability to balance loyalty, performance, and strategy in Lagos—Nigeria’s commercial nerve center and a key power base for the party.

For many Lagos residents, the debate goes beyond politics. Supporters point to his reforms in transport, healthcare, and infrastructure as initiatives that directly improved daily life, insisting that his return would rekindle policies that accelerated the state’s urban growth.

Whether the APC leadership will act on the appeal remains uncertain, but the growing advocacy underscores Ambode’s continuing relevance in Lagos politics.

  • Flood: Ikota, Lekki residents urge Lagos govt to enforce planning laws.

Residents of Ikota and the Lekki axis have sent a Save-Our-Souls (SOS) appeal to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, urging urgent enforcement of planning laws in the area to curb recurring flooding.

They described Tuesday’s downpour as yet another nightmare that left homes and roads completely submerged.

According to the residents, the floods submerged streets, destroyed businesses, and forced families to scramble to salvage what little they could.

“This is no way to live,” a distraught resident lamented. “Every rainfall is a disaster. We are losing everything while the government watches.”

The residents blamed the flooding on man-made causes, particularly illegal structures built on canals and drainage channels notably System 156 and 157 drainage channels. They accused developers of blocking waterways and the state government of failing to enforce its own planning regulations.

“Until the government restores this area according to the original master plan, the flooding will not stop,” another homeowner said while standing in knee-deep water.

Urban planners confirm that Lagos’ master plan prohibits construction on waterways, but enforcement has been weak and sometimes selective. Many residents believe that powerful developers are shielded from sanctions, leaving ordinary Lagosians to bear the brunt of the consequences.

Beyond property damage, the flooding has displaced families, destroyed livelihoods, and posed serious health risks as stagnant water increases the potential for disease outbreaks.

Environmental advocates warn that Lagos is heading toward a major disaster unless canals are urgently cleared and illegal encroachments removed.
“Every illegal structure is a ticking time bomb for nearby communities once the rains return,” an activist cautioned.

  • Lagos Government Endorses Tacha’s Guinness World Record Makeover Challenge.

The Lagos State Government has pledged full support for media personality and entrepreneur Tacha Akide as she attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the most cosmetic makeovers by one person in 24 hours.

The challenge will headline the Tacha Beauty Festival, a three-day celebration scheduled for October 10–12, 2025, at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture & History in Lagos.

Tacha plans to complete 150 makeovers within a single day, a feat that would spotlight Nigeria’s vibrant beauty industry if certified by Guinness World Records.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, described the initiative as more than just a record bid. “It is a statement that Nigerian creativity and excellence can compete anywhere in the world,” he said, noting that the festival aims to empower talent and celebrate culture while showcasing Lagos as a hub for innovation.

According to a Sunday statement, the event will blend commerce, culture, and creativity, offering workshops, masterclasses, vendor exhibitions, business development sessions, and cultural showcases.

Highlights include industry-led training in makeup, skincare, wellness, and fashion, alongside a vendor village for emerging beauty brands and networking platforms for entrepreneurs.

Organisers say the festival is designed to be both entertainment and an incubator for talent and business opportunities, aligning with Lagos State’s broader efforts to boost youth-driven innovation and economic growth.

Tacha, a former reality TV star, said the attempt is a chance to project Nigerian excellence on a global stage and inspire young creatives to dream big.

Nigeria has seen a wave of recent Guinness World Record achievements. Only last week, Chef Hilda Baci secured the record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilogrammes, an accomplishment officially confirmed by Guinness World Records.

  • Lagos Govt, UBEC Strengthen Ties for Quality Basic Education

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to deliver quality and inclusive education for every child in Lagos and across Nigeria.

Speaking through Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, during a courtesy visit by UBEC executives at the Roundhouse, Alausa, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu stressed that education remains the bedrock of national development and must not be compromised.

He emphasized that in 2025, no Nigerian child should be out of school, adding that education is not bound by region or culture but is a fundamental right.

“If we get primary education right, the future of our children will be secure,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu assured that Lagos would provide qualified teachers, adequate security, and full infrastructure support for UBEC’s Smart Model School in Badagry, while also encouraging peer review and knowledge sharing among states to replicate best practices nationwide.

UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, praised Lagos for leading in education outcomes, noting that the Badagry Smart School—equipped with modern facilities like computers and interactive boards—could accommodate nearly 1,000 students. She called for state support to sustain the project and highlighted the role of private sector partnerships in driving improved learning nationwide.

The governor further called for data-driven planning, special-needs focus, and routine health checks for pupils to ensure that no child is left behind.

  • We Won’t Live Like Slaves’ — Ilaje Protest Demolition Of Ancestral Homes In Lagos

    August 20, 2025 | News

Hundreds of Ilaje residents in Lagos have staged a protest against the demolition of their ancestral homes, accusing some traditional rulers of acting as land grabbers and hiding under the name of President Bola Tinubu to justify the destruction.

Despite heavy rainfall, women and men under the umbrella of Egbe Omo Ilaje marched to the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa, Ikeja, demanding urgent intervention from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

    Threat of Nude Protest:
An elderly protester, Ifagbemi, declared that Ilaje women were ready to stage a nude demonstration at the palaces of implicated monarchs if the demolitions continued.

“We are the original settlers of Lagos. If the government refuses to act, we will strip ourselves and storm the palaces of these monarchs. We want peace and justice,” she said.

    Allegations Against Monarchs:
President-General of Egbe Omo Ilaje Worldwide, Rafael Irowainu, accused some monarchs of fraudulently invoking Tinubu’s name to legitimise demolitions.
He insisted the Ilaje people are indigenous settlers of Lagos, while many of the monarchs behind the demolitions originated from Osun and Ekiti states.

    Heritage at Risk:
Protesters warned that demolitions without court orders would worsen insecurity, homelessness, and cultural erasure.
Prince Oluwajimusu, Lagos State Chairman of Egbe Omo Ilaje, condemned the move as a deliberate attempt to “wipe out Ilaje heritage.”

“You cannot write the history of Lagos without the Ilaje. We will not continue to live as slaves in our own land. By 2027, we will decide our political future,” he declared.

Many displaced families have called on the Lagos government to compensate affected landlords and residents, stressing that their wives and children are already suffering severe hardship.

Bottom Line: The Ilaje community insists they are founding settlers of Lagos and vow not to surrender their land rights, warning of escalated protests if demolitions continue.

  • Fashola Weighs In On Lagos Street Naming Controversy, Warns Against Erasing History.

Former governor of Lagos State and ex-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has called for the preservation of Lagos history to avoid distortion and promote values, particularly as the discussion on street naming in Lagos continues to create controversy.
Tinubu Has No Constitutional Role To Intervene In Ondo, Rivers Crisis — Fashola
He stated this on Tuesday at the public presentation of “Discover Lagos State: A History Puzzle Book (Volume 1)” held at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

At the event, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, also echoed the importance of documenting the state’s history, hailing the Lagos State Records and Archive Bureau for the timely presentation of the book.

Fashola referenced the works in the digital archives of the University of Glasgow, noting that the past works of the university’s staff and students played a role in influencing the historical development in other countries, even in the area of landmarks.

He said records also contain information about the first Nigerian students at the University of Glasgow at the time, including Dr Issac Ladipo Oluwole, who was enrolled in 1913 and graduated in 1918.

Referencing the archive, Fashola said, “Dr Ladipo Oluwole returned to Nigeria to become the first African medical officer of health in the Lagos colony.

“He pioneered school health services, with school inspection and vaccination of children in their schools, and started the first Nigerian school of hygiene at Yaba in Lagos in 1920. So that’s the Ladipo Oluwole. But the records were kept well in Glasgow, Scotland.

“So those of us who drive through streets such as Ladipo Oluwole Street in Ikeja will probably now understand and contextualise the contributions of such a man and why it was considered such a high honour to immortalise him by naming a street in his memory.

“But it is perhaps instructive that we are discussing street naming and street unnaming and I keep my gunpowder dry,” he added.

“Today I reiterate those words about street naming and Dr Oluwole and with a greater conviction to reinforce my message that the preservation of our history and the documentation of our progress should be taken seriously,” Fashola said.

  • Medicine dealer callfor a new market in Lagos, complain on a hijack in Idumota wholesales center.

Drug marketers at the Idumota market in Lagos state took a break on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from there busy schedule. They did not indulge in some unnecessary celebrations, rather they did so for the sake of their business. They went on a peaceful protest against the hijack of the space earlier secured for a Coordinated Wholesale Centre, CWC in the popular market. The protest was to call the attention of the authorities, at the federal and the state levels, to the challenge that has placed them at the mercy of a few people who they claimed were on a mission to frustrate they out of the market. The marketers are therefore asking for the neutralisation of the powers of those few men or the provision of a new space for a second CWC.

Their grievances were expressed in the placards with various inscriptions such as “Return our CWC,” “Give us our land,” and “We want second CWC” among others.
Acting under the body known as Nigeria Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED, they appealed to President Bola Tinubu, through the Federal Ministry of Health, the Lagos State Government and the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, PCN, to come to their rescue to approve a second Coordinated Wholesale Centre, CWC, in Lagos State.
Osita Nwajide, Chairman of NAPPMED, Liberation Zone, Lagos Island, made the call during the protest. He said that the proposed second CWC will be guided by fairness, inclusivity, and transparency in allocation of spaces and pricing. Priority, he said, must be given to genuine pharmaceutical dealers/marketers and businesses that have a track record of compliance with regulations.

Marketers appealed that the proposed second CWC be on the Island, preferably Ibeju Lekki and its environs, and the centre should have a zonal spread to ease congestion and improve access across Lagos, as well as incorporate digital traceability systems to monitor drug movement and ensure accountability throughout the supply chain.

“We are passionately appealing to His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, because he is from Lagos State and he knows what we are talking about, kindly come to our rescue, we also appeal to our amiable Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to our rescue” Nwajide said “Lagos is a mega city of over 25 million people with two seaports, Apapa and Tincan, with two airports, another one is going on. One CWC presently with just 720 shops is not enough and we have over three thousand medicine marketers in Lagos Island alone and it demands a bigger CWC.”

Medicine Dealers Call for a New Market in Lagos, Complain of a Hijack of Idumota Wholesale Centre Nwajide further said that over 920 medicine marketers contributed between N100,000 and N1million each in 2011 to buy the land for the CWC, with the hope of operating in a regulated space. He, however, regretted that the place has been hijacked by some individuals which are not even up to 5% of the marketers.

According to him, “They are asking us to pay N93.5 million for a shop from June to December. How many of us can afford that? Many of us are small to medium-scale drug marketers. It’s an impossible demand.”

He said if the demands are not met, there would be looming threat to drug distributions in Lagos State and it will increase black-market drug distribution in Lagos. This could lead to shortage of medicine in the state.

He promised that the second CWC, if built, will be for everybody, there will be room for expansion to be a conducive environment, and we will build over three thousand shops for marketers.

  • Lagos decides at grassroots as Local govt elections hold today – LIVE REPORT.

All is now set for the Lagos State local government council elections scheduled for today, Saturday, July 12, 2025.

From the mainland to the islands, political actors, election observers, and residents await what many consider a quiet but significant test of the state’s political terrain.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, had released the final list of validated candidates contesting for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs, and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs.

Voting is expected to begin as early as 8 a.m., with security personnel and election materials reportedly deployed across the 13,325 polling units.

Local government elections in Nigeria are often marked by low voter turnout and limited national media attention, but in Lagos, this year’s poll carries added significance.

The vote comes at a time when the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is working to reassert its dominance at the grassroots, following pockets of opposition gains in the 2023 general elections.

Political observers say this election could serve as a temperature check on the strength of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and, by extension, the influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his home state.

These laws, passed by the State House of Assembly and signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, cover everything from fire rescue services to leadership training.

By announcing when each law will take effect, the state is giving residents and agencies time to prepare and understand their new rights and responsibilities.

    1. Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Law (Effective February 19, 2025)

  • Seven arrested over engineer’s death in Lagos land dispute.

Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Alagbon, Lagos, have arrested seven persons in connection with a violent attack.

The arrests were made in relation to the death of Badmus Monsur, an engineer who was killed during the attack at a Lagos State government-allocated property in the Agidingbi area.

The deceased was reportedly an employee of the Nigercat Nigeria Group of Companies.

The company’s Chairman, Alhaji Akeem Osuolale, expressed concerns over what he described as attempts by some senior law enforcement officers to interfere with the ongoing investigation and secure the release of the suspects.

Speaking to journalists in Ikeja, Osuolale commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the lead investigator, CSP Oyewale, for the swift arrest of the suspects. However, he warned that previous arrests in similar circumstances had been undermined.

“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of the IGP and CSP Oyewale in ensuring that seven people connected to the murder of my engineer have been apprehended,” Osuolale said.

“But we are deeply concerned, as there have been instances in the past where suspects were arrested and then released the same day, both at Alausa and FCID, while some of our staff were still being detained.”

Osuolale also alleged that the group responsible for the attack had repeatedly issued threats against him and his employees, claiming influence over security agencies. According to him, over 25 armed thugs were deployed during the attack that led to Monsur’s death.

He urged Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and ensure that justice is served in the matter.

Efforts to get comments from police authorities were unsuccessful, as officials maintained that investigations are still ongoing.

However, he warned that previous arrests in similar circumstances had been undermined. “I sincerely appreciate the efforts of the IGP and CSP Oyewale in ensuring that seven people connected to the murder of my engineer have been apprehended,” Osuolale said. “But we are deeply concerned, as there have been instances in the past where suspects were arrested and then released the same day, both at Alausa and FCID, while some of our staff were still being detained.” Osuolale also alleged that the group responsible for the attack had repeatedly issued threats against him and his employees, claiming influence over security agencies.

  • US-based Lawyer Owolabi Salis Becomes First Nigerian to Travel to Space.

Nigerian-born lawyer and politician Owolabi Salis has made history as the first Nigerian to travel to space. Salis was one of six passengers aboard Blue Origin’s NS-33 mission, which launched from West Texas on June 29, 2025.

The 10-minute suborbital flight, operated by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin under its New Shepard programme, took the crew past the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space—reaching an altitude of 105.2 kilometers. Salis flew alongside Allie Kuehner, Carl Kuehner, Leland Larson, Freddie Rescigno Jr., and Jim Sitkin.

He now joins the exclusive list of citizen astronauts who have ventured into space through private spaceflight initiatives. Before liftoff, Salis described the mission as more than a scientific feat.

“This mission is more than just a trip into space—it’s a spiritual journey, a call to inspire future generations,” he said, adding that he hopes his experience will spark space exploration interest across Africa.

Born in Ikorodu, Lagos, Salis is a chartered accountant and attorney licensed in both Nigeria and the U.S. No stranger to adventure, Salis previously became the first Black African to visit both the Arctic and Antarctic within the same season.

He has also been a prominent figure in Lagos politics—seeking the PDP governorship ticket in 2003 and 2007, contesting under the Action Party of Nigeria in 2007, and running as the Alliance for Democracy’s candidate in the 2019 elections. He later challenged the 2019 results in court, but the tribunal upheld Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory.
