Lagos Police Boost Security in Schools and Worship Centres Amid Nationwide Threats
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has announced heightened security deployments across schools, worship centres and other public locations as part of efforts to prevent potential security breaches in the state.
Jimoh, who spoke on Monday at the command headquarters in Ikeja, assured residents that Lagos remains safe, noting that the intensified operations will continue throughout the ember months and into the New Year.
“We want the general public to know that Lagos is safe and secure. We have made additional deployments to all schools, places of worship, religious centres and other locations frequently visited by people to ensure all worshippers are safe,” he said. “This will continue into the New Year and beyond to ensure the safety of all Lagosians and other Nigerians coming into the state. We don’t have any concern to be worried about; we are beefing up security throughout the state.”
The commissioner added that the command is also expanding its tactical squads across all local government areas to strengthen response capacity.
The renewed vigilance follows a series of security breaches and abductions recorded in other parts of the country, including Kwara, Kebbi and Niger states.
Jimoh further disclosed that recent cases of vehicle theft in Lagos were largely perpetrated by newly employed drivers and car wash attendants. During the briefing, he paraded 10 recovered exotic vehicles and revealed that 56 suspects had been arrested for various offences across the state.
According to him, “The onslaught on criminal elements has been yielding results. Behind me are 10 exotic cars recovered from suspects. Most of these vehicles were taken by drivers who were newly employed or by car wash attendants who drove them away.”
