Kwara Church Kidnap Survivor: “They Boasted They Were Bandits; No One Escapes Their Territory”

A survivor of the November 18 attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Kwara State, has recounted the terrifying ordeal he and other worshippers endured while in captivity. He was one of the 38 victims that security operatives successfully rescued—a development confirmed by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with TVC, he said the gunmen stormed the church barely 30 minutes after the evening service began, firing shots and forcing everyone into the bush. At first, he didn’t even recognize the sound as gunfire until worshippers realized they were surrounded.

The abductees were taken deep into a forest the attackers had fully dominated. According to him, the kidnappers boldly identified themselves as bandits and claimed absolute control over the area, insisting that “no one slips away” from their territory. He said they knew all the routes across Kwara and nearby states, making escape impossible.
