Israel Dismisses Three Generals, Disciplines Senior Officers Over October 7 Hamas Attack Failures
Israel’s military has sacked three generals and disciplined several senior officers for their roles in failures leading up to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, assault—the deadliest attack in the country’s history. The decision, announced Sunday, follows public pressure for accountability and a systemic investigation requested by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.
Among those removed are three divisional commanders, including the former military intelligence chief. Disciplinary measures were also taken against the heads of the navy and air force, four additional generals, and other senior officers. A committee of experts cited long-standing systemic and organizational breakdowns, significant intelligence lapses, and flawed decision-making as key factors that allowed the attack to succeed.
