Local Hunter Who Helped Tackle Bandits Faces 45-Year Jail Term, Northern Youth Leaders Demand Justice
he Arewa Youth Ambassadors (AYA) have called for the immediate and unconditional release of Musa Nura Aljan, a local hunter widely praised for assisting security agencies in Northern Nigeria to combat banditry and kidnappings. Aljan, currently serving a 45-year prison sentence, reportedly spent years gathering intelligence, tracking criminal hideouts, and recovering stolen property, including over 1,000 cattle and firearms.
The group expressed “deep concern” over his incarceration, emphasizing that Aljan risked his life to protect communities and should be celebrated rather than punished. Reports suggest his legal troubles began after assisting in the arrest of suspected bandits in Bauchi
State. AYA is demanding a full independent review of his case, a public inquiry into his arrest and sentencing, and protection for civilian collaborators assisting security operations.
