Ojude Oba 2025: Organisers Project Over 100 Million Global Participants
Organisers of the prestigious Ojude Oba Festival have announced that the 2025 edition of the cultural celebration is expected to attract over 100 million participants worldwide.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abeokuta, the Coordinator of the Ojude Oba Festival Committee, Dr. Fassy Yusuf, said this year’s festival would hold on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in honour of the Awujale of Ijebuland.
Yusuf described the over two-century-old festival as a cornerstone of Ijebu identity and a testament to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
“The Ojude Oba Festival is not just a gathering, but a global cultural showcase that brings together Ijebu sons and daughters from all corners of the world,” Yusuf said. “We’re expecting a large influx of tourists, dignitaries, and enthusiasts eager to experience the beauty of our traditions at the Utoro Centre in Ijebu-Ode.”
He explained that while approximately 200,000 people would gather at the main pavilion and the Utoro Centre, an additional two to three million are expected across other Ijebu towns and surrounding communities in Ogun State. The broader estimate of over 100 million includes a global virtual audience tuning in via live streaming platforms.
To ensure a secure and seamless event, Yusuf confirmed that extensive security measures are in place. Personnel from the Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), the military, Amotekun Corps, and local vigilante groups will be deployed across key locations.
He emphasized the festival’s cultural and economic significance, highlighting its role in fostering unity among the Ijebu people and promoting Nigeria’s cultural tourism.
“This festival is our pride. It promotes national unity, boosts local commerce, and celebrates our cultural resilience. We’re committed to delivering a peaceful and vibrant celebration,” Yusuf assured.
He also praised corporate sponsors and stakeholders for their continued support, noting that their involvement underscores a shared commitment to preserving cultural heritage and encouraging national development.
The 2025 Ojude Oba Festival will feature traditional age-grade (Regberegbe) parades, opulent attire, horse-riding displays, and a host of other colourful cul
tural performances.
