FCT: Some Judges Still Tenants, We’ll Solve Accommodation Problems Before 2027 – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that 80 percent of judges’ accommodation challenges will be resolved before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first tenure.
Speaking on Tuesday during the official flag-off of the Magistrate Court construction in Jabi, Abuja, Wike lamented that some judges still live in rented apartments and are at the mercy of landlords.
He described the situation as “embarrassing,” stressing that poor welfare affects the quick dispensation of justice.
“Sometimes you see our justices living as tenants, and when they can’t pay on time, landlords harass them. That is unacceptable. Even their security is at risk,” Wike said.
The minister promised that by December 2025, 20 units of four-bedroom duplexes would be handed over to the Federal High Court, while 30 more units would be delivered to the FCT High Court by June 2026, during Tinubu’s third-year anniversary.
He added that other housing projects were ongoing in Garki and near the Presidential Villa to accommodate magistrates.
Wike emphasised that the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) is primarily responsible for public buildings in Abuja, including those for the judiciary.
