Kebbi General Hospital Rots Away As Elderly Patients Lie On Bare Iron Amid Acute Shortage Of Facilities

A disturbing video has exposed the shocking decay at a General Hospital in Kebbi State, where an elderly patient was seen lying helplessly on a hospital bed without a mattress.

The footage, obtained by SaharaReporters, shows the sick man placed directly on the bare iron frame of a hospital bed — a scene that has sparked outrage and highlighted the deep rot in the state’s healthcare system.

A narrator in the video lamented the grim reality:

“Imagine an elderly man lying on a sickbed with no mattress, no bedsheet, and no pillow — just the bare iron frame. It is deeply upsetting and unacceptable.”

The video underscores the hospital’s lack of basic facilities, including mattresses, bedsheets, and essential medical equipment. Residents described the situation as government’s “criminal neglect” of healthcare in Kebbi State, forcing patients to endure inhumane conditions.

This is not the first time healthcare infrastructure in the state has been exposed. In February, SaharaReporters reported how doctors and nurses in Kangiwa Arewa, Dandi LGA, were forced to live in collapsing staff quarters where snakes, cracked walls, and leaking ceilings posed daily risks.

Many health workers have since relocated due to the dire living conditions, leaving fewer providers on duty during emergencies. Residents and civic groups like Monitng are urging urgent government intervention.

“We cannot expect healthcare workers to perform at their best when they don’t even have a safe place to live,” said Ilevbaoje Uadamen, founder of Monitng. “A functional healthcare system starts with ensuring that those who provide care are themselves cared for.”
