LADIPOE : Nigerian Rapper, singer and Performer

Ladipoe

Ladipoe, whose real name is Ladipo Eso, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and performer widely regarded as one of the most intelligent and lyrically gifted voices in Nigerian hip hop. Born on April 29, 1991, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Ladipoe grew up in a well educated and culturally exposed family that valued creativity and academic excellence.

Raised in Lagos, he attended some of the city’s prestigious schools before moving abroad for higher education. He studied Biology and Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the United States. Although he pursued science academically, his true passion was always music. During his university years, he became deeply involved in rap, drawing inspiration from international hip hop icons such as Jay Z, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar. Their storytelling style and lyrical depth influenced his own approach to writing.

After completing his studies, Ladipoe returned to Nigeria with a clear vision to build a career in music. At a time when Afrobeats was dominating the industry, he chose to focus on rap, determined to revive strong lyricism in mainstream Nigerian music. His dedication soon paid off when he signed with Mavin Records in 2017, becoming the first rapper officially signed to the label founded by Don Jazzy.

Under Mavin Records, Ladipoe began releasing songs that showcased his sharp wordplay and thoughtful themes. One of his early standout tracks was “Man Already,” which highlighted his confidence and identity as a rapper. However, it was his 2021 single “Feeling” featuring Buju, now known as BNXN, that became a nationwide and international hit. The song topped charts in Nigeria and gained massive streaming numbers, marking a breakthrough moment in his career. “Feeling” blended rap with melodic Afrobeats, proving that hip hop could thrive within Nigeria’s evolving soundscape.

Ladipoe’s music often explores themes of ambition, self belief, relationships, social commentary, and personal growth. His delivery is smooth yet assertive, and he is known for weaving clever punchlines into meaningful narratives. Unlike many rappers who rely solely on aggressive flows, Ladipoe balances intelligence with relatability, making his music accessible to a wide audience.

In addition to singles, Ladipoe has released several projects that reflect his artistic growth. His EP Talk About Poe and other releases further established him as a consistent and evolving artist. He has collaborated with various Nigerian and African artists, expanding his reach beyond the traditional hip hop audience.

Beyond music, Ladipoe is admired for his calm demeanor and articulate personality. He frequently engages in thoughtful conversations about the future of African music and the role of hip hop in shaping youth culture. His educational background and global exposure contribute to his polished public image.

Throughout his career, Ladipoe has received nominations and recognition for his contributions to Nigerian rap. He has performed at major concerts and festivals, sharing stages with top artists across Africa. His journey represents a blend of academic discipline and creative passion, showing that it is possible to balance intellect with artistry.

Ladipoe continues to stand as one of Nigeria’s leading rappers, determined to keep lyric driven music alive in a rapidly changing industry. His story is one of vision, persistence, and confidence in his craft. From studying science in the United States to dominating Nigerian charts with hit songs, Ladipoe has carved a respected place for himself in contemporary African music.

Today, he remains a strong voice for modern Nigerian hip hop, inspiring young rappers to embrace originality and lyrical excellence while staying true to their identity.
