President Tinubu Speaks Out on Recent Tragedies: "We Must Not Let Violence Define Us"

In the wake of several harrowing tragedies that have rocked the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a powerful statement condemning the escalating violence and reaffirming the government’s commitment to justice, peace, and national unity.

From the suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, to the gruesome lynching of travellers in Plateau State, and a deadly explosion at a scrap metal facility in Kano, the nation has witnessed a disturbing spike in incidents that have claimed innocent lives and shaken communities.

“These attacks on innocent lives are unconscionable and must not stand,” the President declared.

Condolences and Action in Borno

The bombing in Borno, described as a cowardly act of terror, took several lives and left many injured. In response, President Tinubu directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently support survivors and the affected families. He also issued a call to the armed forces to intensify efforts against Boko Haram, condemning the attack as a diversionary tactic meant to sow fear and confusion.

Justice Demanded in Plateau

Equally disturbing was the barbaric murder of 12 wedding guests in Plateau State. The victims, returning from a joyous occasion, were ambushed and lynched in an act the President described as “horrifying and unacceptable.”

“These killings must not go unanswered,” he stated, ordering the Nigerian Police Force and relevant security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators without delay.

He also called on the Plateau State Government to act decisively, urging collaboration with security agencies to end what he termed a “vicious cycle of violence.”

Tragedy in Kano Sparks Workplace Safety Concerns

In Kano, an explosion at a scrap metal facility claimed five lives, prompting the President to direct a full investigation and stronger workplace safety enforcement. He emphasized the need for stricter adherence to safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies.

Reaffirming Fundamental Freedoms

President Tinubu stressed that freedom of movement is a fundamental right of every Nigerian, warning against any attempt to curtail this liberty through violence or intimidation.

“We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” he affirmed.

Standing in Solidarity

In his closing remarks, President Tinubu offered heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families affected across Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kaduna States, promising that the government remains resolute in its quest for justice and national healing.

“We will not rest until justice is done and peace and safety are fully restored across our land.”
