Sultan of Sokoto Declares Tuesday as First Day of Sha’aban 1447AH
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as the first day of Sha’aban 1447AH.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the Wazirin Sokoto, who also serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
According to the statement, the declaration follows the confirmation of the new Islamic month in line with established religious procedures, and Muslims across Nigeria are advised to take note and be guided accordingly.
Sha’aban is a significant month in the Islamic calendar, preceding the holy month of Ramadan.
