DSS Detains Ogun Pastor Over Road Campaign as Critics Face Crackdown
The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained Ogun-based pastor and civic advocate, Kayode Olawoye, following his public campaign demanding improved road infrastructure across the state.
Olawoye was invited to the DSS office in Abeokuta on Monday for what was described as a routine discussion. However, unlike previous invitations, he was not released and has since been placed under detention.
His arrest has sparked concern among residents and rights advocates, who view it as part of a growing pattern of intimidation against critics of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration. The pastor had recently intensified calls for safer and motorable roads, highlighting the daily hardships faced by commuters and traders.
The incident adds to a list of recent actions against outspoken individuals in Ogun State, including the controversial impeachment of a local government chairman and criminal charges filed against a social media blogger critical of the state government.
Critics accuse the Ogun State government of intolerance toward dissent, while authorities are yet to issue an official explanation for Pastor Olawoye’s continued detention.
