How Suicide Bomber Tried To Enter Army Barracks In Abuja — NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that the explosion which occurred on Monday near the Mogadishu Cantonment (Abacha Barracks) along the Mararaba-Nyanya Expressway in Abuja was the result of a suicide bombing attempt.
According to NEMA, the incident happened at approximately 1:47 p.m. when a suspected suicide bomber, carrying an improvised explosive device (IED), tried to infiltrate the army barracks. The device detonated before he could gain entry, killing the bomber instantly and injuring a passerby.
Security agencies quickly cordoned off the area, and emergency response teams were deployed to the scene. The injured victim was evacuated by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Nigeria Police Force and taken to the National Hospital for treatment.
NEMA stated:
“Information gathered revealed that a suicide bomber attempted to sneak into the barracks but met his Waterloo as the IED exploded on him while trying to negotiate an entry.”
The operation was concluded by 5:29 p.m. with the area secured for further investigation. Agencies present at the scene included NEMA, the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The police have launched a full investigation, including forensic analysis, to further determine the specifics of the incident.
