    Fintter

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamsideen Adio, popularly known as Shameleon, over allegations of assault and murder.

According to the Command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, the 55-year-old suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where investigations are ongoing.

Police said Adio allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, inflicting serious injuries with a helmet and his fists. The victim remains on oxygen at the hospital.

In a separate case, Adio was accused of assaulting another man with a metallic ring during an August 28 altercation. The victim later died on September 17, and his body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

News of the man’s death sparked protests at Adio’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, where sympathisers of the deceased set two motorcycles ablaze. Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh led officers to the scene to restore calm.

Jimoh assured residents that the suspect is in custody and will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations. He also appealed to the public to remain calm and law-abiding.

  • Breaking News: Rivers Gov, Fubara Returns to Port Harcourt After Emergency Rule | Fintter

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt after six months away from office.

Fubara arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport around 12:19 p.m. on Friday, a day after President Bola Tinubu officially lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state in March.

Dressed in a blue shirt and a black baseball cap, the governor was received by a cheering crowd of supporters who had waited at the airport’s VIP wing.

Although the Rivers House of Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday, Fubara did not immediately return to the Government House despite the large number of residents who gathered there to welcome him.

His predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, told Channels Television that Fubara was under no legal obligation to resume the same day the emergency was lifted.

Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, had been out of office since March 18, when Tinubu declared a state of emergency over political unrest in Rivers. The president had appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as interim administrator.

Ibas officially stepped down on Wednesday night, calling on political actors in the state to embrace peace, respect, and dialogue.

Bwala: Seyi Tinubu Qualified To Contest Lagos Governorship

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has said that the president’s son, Seyi Tinubu, is constitutionally qualified to contest for any political office in Nigeria, including the governorship of Lagos State.

Speaking on The Clarity Zone podcast posted on YouTube on Wednesday, Bwala dismissed criticisms suggesting Seyi’s political relevance is tied solely to his father’s influence. He described him instead as a bridge-builder among Nigerian youth.

“If Seyi Tinubu’s father is the president, what stops him from running for Lagos State governor? Seyi Tinubu can even challenge his father in the next election,” Bwala said.

He praised Seyi’s character, describing him as humble and unassuming despite his privileged background as the son of a former Lagos governor and now president of Nigeria.

According to him, Seyi has cultivated long-standing friendships, supported young people in securing government opportunities, and even attracted criticism for bringing in individuals across party lines, including Obidients.

Bwala further noted that Seyi has maintained maturity by avoiding scandals or social media attacks, even though his father is one of the most heavily criticised Nigerian leaders in recent memory.

The presidential aide also revealed that his own criticisms of the Tinubu administration have never affected his relationship with Seyi, describing him as someone capable of separating politics from personal relationships.

He urged Nigerians to judge Seyi Tinubu based on personal experience rather than inherited opinions.

“Until you experience somebody, don’t have an opinion of them. Too many people inherit other people’s problems without any personal encounter,” Bwala added.

  • Once-Prominent Oleh Township Stadium in Delta Now Overrun by Bushes and Farmlands

    September 15, 2025

Oleh Township Stadium in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, once a vibrant hub for sports and community events, has fallen into severe neglect, with its grounds now overtaken by cassava, yam, plantain, and thick bushes.

The facility, which hosted matches during the 2006 Africa Women’s Championship, including the South Africa vs. Algeria clash, was once ranked among Delta’s most prominent arenas—alongside Oghara, Ughelli, Agbor, and the Jay-Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwashi-Uku—under the administration of former Governor James Ibori.

Residents who visited the stadium this week described its collapse as a “death sentence” for young talents in the region.

“This used to be one of the most beautiful stadiums in Delta about 10–15 years ago. It was the pride of the state. Today, it is farmland. Cassava here, yams there. The tracks, roofs, and seats are all gone. Dreams have been wasted,” a resident lamented.

Community members accused the Delta State Government, House of Assembly, and Commissioner for Sports of deliberate neglect, and also faulted the local government chairman for ignoring the stadium’s decay.

Some young athletes continue to struggle to train on the dilapidated grounds, but residents say their ambitions are being crushed.

For many, the stadium holds deep personal value. A former athlete recalled how Oleh Stadium launched his career:

“I learned handball here and represented Delta State in several national tournaments. To see this stadium abandoned is heartbreaking. It once gave us hope.”

Locals have now issued an urgent appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to rescue the facility from total collapse, warning that the neglect is destroying future sporting opportunities.

“Delta prides itself as a sports-loving state. But look at what has become of Oleh Stadium. It is nothing but shameful,” a youth leader said.
