• Tanzanian President Appoints Daughter and Son-in-law as Ministers.

Tanzania’s President Samia Hassan has appointed her daughter and son-in-law as ministers in her newly formed government. In a nationwide broadcast on Monday, Mrs. Hassan, who was declared the winner of the October 29 presidential election, named 27 ministers and 29 deputy ministers, including her family members.

Wanu Hafidh Amei, the president’s daughter, was named deputy minister for education, science, and technology, while her husband, Mohamed Mchengerwa, took over as health minister. In other appointments, Tanzania’s ambassador to China, Khamis Mussa Omar, became finance minister, while Adolf Mkenda retained his role as education, science, and technology minister.

Seven former ministers were removed, but Anthony Mavunde and Mahmoud Thabit Kombo were retained as mining and foreign affairs ministers, respectively.

Mrs. Hassan’s re-election has attracted criticism due to violent protests, an internet shutdown, and a crackdown on demonstrators.

The United Nations has called for thorough investigations into reported deaths, warning that authorities may be concealing evidence. Opposition party CHADEMA, whose candidate Tundu Lissu was barred from the election, claims about 700 people were killed and refuses to recognize Mrs. Hassan as president.

International observers have also expressed concerns. The African Union deemed the election not credible, while the European Union, Southern African Development Community, and missions from the UK, Canada, and Norway condemned the fatalities, suppression of opposition, and internet restrictions during the polls.

  • ASUU blames FG’s neglect for deepening education crisis.

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Chris Piwuna, has accused the Federal Government of neglecting the education sector, warning that such indifference is at the root of Nigeria’s prolonged academic and development crisis.

Speaking during The Toyin Falola Interviews on Sunday, in a virtual session titled “A Conversation with the ASUU President,” Piwuna said federal officials do not view the challenges facing the education system as national problems requiring collective responsibility. Instead, he said, ministers and government executives often dismiss education-related matters as “the Education Minister’s problem.”

“Members of the government, the ministers, and chief executives do not see the problem of education as a problem that affects them.
When ASUU declares a strike, the Minister of Finance sees it as the Minister of Education’s problem; the Minister of Science and Technology sees it the same way,” Piwuna said.

“But if the Minister of Finance understood that the country’s economic growth depends on a knowledgeable workforce, he would take the Minister of Education’s problem as his own.”

Piwuna argued that the Federal Government’s inconsistent policy direction, corruption, and capitalist ideology continue to weaken public education. He lamented that while ASUU views education as a public good, many government officials treat it as a profit-driven enterprise.

“We in ASUU see education as a public good, but those in government treat it as a capitalist venture. Many of them now suggest that TETFund should begin funding private universities… Self-interest and contract inflation have replaced public service. That is why TETFund has become a marketplace,” he added.

The ASUU leader further revealed that discussions between the union and the government are ongoing at the National Executive Council meeting in Taraba State, but warned that the salary offers currently on the table remain “unacceptable.”

“The terms of the agreement are shaping up, and in the next week or two, we’ll make a definite statement. But what the government is offering us as salaries is unacceptable, and we are ready to go to any length to fight it,” he said.

  • BUA Refinery: Nigeria’s Next Big Move to End Fuel Import Dependence

Nigeria is set for another major breakthrough in its energy sector as BUA Group pushes forward with the construction of its new 200,000 barrels-per-day refinery in Akwa Ibom State. Led by billionaire industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu, the project aims to strengthen Nigeria’s ability to refine its own crude oil locally — a crucial step toward ending decades of fuel import dependence.

A Game Changer for Nigeria’s Economy

For years, Nigeria has exported crude oil only to import refined fuels at high costs. With the new BUA refinery coming onstream, this cycle is expected to change dramatically. The refinery will produce:
    • Petrol (PMS)
    • Diesel (AGO)
    • Aviation fuel (Jet A1)
    • LPG (cooking gas)
    • Petrochemicals

This means more jobs, cheaper domestic fuel, and extra revenue for the nation through exports.

    Why This Refinery Matters

    ✔ Supports fuel supply stability
    ✔ Reduces foreign exchange pressure
    ✔ Expands Nigeria’s refining capacity
✔ Encourages competition with other refineries — especially Dangote Refinery
✔ Boosts development in the Niger Delta region

The refinery is already attracting international partners in engineering, technology, and infrastructure.

Driving Local Content & Industrial Growth

BUA Group is one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing conglomerates — with investments in:
    • Cement
    • Foods & sugar
    • Port operations
    • Real estate
    • Energy & power

The refinery project expands BUA’s footprint into the petroleum value chain, helping to keep more wealth within Nigeria.

    Looking Ahead

Once completed, the BUA refinery will become one of West Africa’s largest privately-owned refineries, adding healthy competition to the market and supporting Nigeria’s long-awaited shift toward full downstream independence.

“Nigeria should not be importing fuel when we have crude oil.”
    — Abdul Samad Rabiu

The journey continues — and the results could reshape the nation’s economic future.

  • I’ll Support Trump to Help Nigeria Fight Terrorism” — Wike Speaks on Alleged Christian Genocide.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared his readiness to support former U.S. President Donald Trump if it will help Nigeria tackle terrorism.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike reacted to concerns about alleged persecution of Christians and rising insecurity in parts of the country.

“I will support Trump in providing and supporting Nigeria with technology in the fight against terrorism,” he stated, stressing that his focus is national security and not politics.

Wike dismissed claims that he was ignoring killings because of politics. He insisted that human lives must not become political tools.

“Sure, we stop these killings. It’s not for me to capitalize that people are dying in Plopton. It’s not for me to capitalize. People are dying in Benway. They wanted to take over the rest of governance. No, no, no,” he said, arguing that preventing further loss of life matters more than political rivalry.

He questioned the narrative of “Christian genocide,” saying security challenges affect all citizens regardless of religion.

“Who knows? So so person died. Is he a Christian? Is he a Muslim? Is he a non-believer?” he asked, urging Nigerians not to frame insecurity along religious lines.

The minister recalled his experience visiting Maiduguri in 2011 during the peak of Boko Haram attacks. According to him, shortly after he left a school in the city that day, the school was destroyed.

  • Soludo to Trump: "By your logic, Africa should have invaded America during #BlackLivesMatter".

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has said Nigeria’s security challenges are far more complex than a simple Christian-versus-Muslim conflict, warning that U.S. President Trump’s recent comments on “protecting Christians in Nigeria” fail to capture the true nature of the crisis.

Speaking during a media chat on Sunday, Soludo said while the United States has the right to express its opinions on global issues, any intervention must respect Nigeria’s sovereignty & international law.

“America, as a sovereign nation can have its views about what happens elsewhere,” Soludo said. “But whatever actions it takes must remain within the boundaries of international law.”

The governor urged the Nigerian government to engage in deeper, fact-based discussions to properly address concerns raised by foreign actors. He noted that much of the violence in the South-East stems from internal disputes rather than religious motives.

“In the South-East, it’s largely Christians killing Christians,” he explained. “The people in the bushes are Emmanuel, Peter, and John all Christian names. This has nothing to do with religion.”

Soludo maintained that any form of external assistance should come only through formal diplomatic channels, such as requests for military support or technology not through threats of invasion. Drawing a parallel, he said it would be absurd if African countries threatened to invade the U.S. over racial violence.

“You had policemen killing Black people during the #BlackLivesMatter protests,” he said. “Should Africa then invade America because Blacks are being killed? That wouldn’t make sense.”

He also reminded observers that the South-East is almost entirely Christian. “We are about 95 percent Christian in this part of the country,” he said. “Those causing violence are Christians too. It’s much deeper than the labels of Christians and Muslims.”

“I’ve been blessed enough for a long time to be able to afford any type of car that I want to buy, or even a private jet,” Don Jazzy said. “But I have more important things to take care of. • Lagos govt enforces mandatory insurance for multi-storey commercial buildings.

The Lagos State Government has announced that all commercial buildings exceeding two floors will now be required to carry compulsory insurance coverage as part of ongoing efforts to enhance urban safety, planning compliance, and risk management across the state.

The policy was revealed at the 2025 Real Estate Discussions and Awards held in Lagos, an event organised by Thinkmint Nigeria, where stakeholders in housing, land administration, and urban planning gathered to discuss emerging trends in the real estate sector.

Delivering one of the keynote presentations, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Enterprise Geographic Information System, E-GIS, and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming land administration and physical development through technology, transparency, and sustainable practices.

According to him, the state, working with international development partners, has completed a comprehensive digital mapping of Lagos to support the full rollout of the E-GIS.

The new platform, he said, will enable instant land searches, digital certification, online applications, and real-time verification of property ownership and planning approvals.

“Lagos will soon commence compulsory insurance for all multi-storey commercial buildings above two floors. The state will also begin land and building regularisation through a 300-property pilot scheme in Epe,” Babatunde said.

He added that a new electronic planning permit system will allow compliant developers to obtain building approvals in as little as 10 minutes, a move aimed at drastically reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and curbing corruption in the approval process.

Babatunde, however, warned against double allocations, forged survey documents, and unapproved constructions, revealing that the government has begun a statewide physical planning audit. Non-compliant developers, he stressed, would face strict penalties.

President Donald Trump had described the country as a country of particular concern.

Kwankwaso who took to his Facebook page on Sunday wrote: “I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump. This follows his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern.’”

He stressed that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation facing security challenges caused by outlaws, not by religion or ethnicity.

“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs,” he said.

Kwankwaso urged the United States to support Nigeria with modern technology to fight insecurity instead of issuing threats.

“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country,” he added.

He also called on the Nigerian government to engage with the US diplomatically.

  • Ekiti Government constructs ₦1.8 billion lodge for Governor Oyebanji and his deputy in Abuja amid funding concerns.

The Ekiti State Government has reportedly spent ₦470 million on the construction of a new ₦1.8 billion lodge in Abuja for Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his deputy, Monisade Afuye, sparking public concern over the state’s spending priorities.

According to official budget records, the funds were allocated for the “construction of new governor and deputy governor lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.” A review by SaharaReporters showed that ₦470 million was expended between January and September 2025.

The report also revealed that a separate ₦320 million contract was awarded on October 8, 2025, for the construction of a guest house chalet within the Government House, with the contract issued to a permanent secretary in the Government House and Protocol Department.

This comes at a time when many agencies in the state have struggled to access funds for essential capital projects. An audit of Ekiti’s 2024 financial report indicated that 35 government agencies received no capital funding despite having a combined budget of ₦3.3 billion.

Among the affected institutions were the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Deputy Governor’s Office, Ekiti State Mortgage Board, Civil Service Commission, and several liaison offices and agencies responsible for public development, housing, and healthcare.

Further investigations revealed that numerous multi-million naira contracts — including those for the Ekiti Airport Project, transformer installations, and other infrastructure works — were awarded to “permanent secretaries” rather than independent contractors, raising questions about transparency and due process.

Critics have accused the state government of misplacing priorities by funding luxury projects for political officeholders while neglecting crucial sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The development has reignited calls for accountability and stricter monitoring of public expenditure in Ekiti State.

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has rusticated a 200-level Biotechnology student, Ezi Ugoma, for uploading on TikTok a video showing a dying student allegedly involved in an abortion.

In a letter dated October 21, 2025, signed by Principal Assistant Registrar (Students), Ughwumiakpor A., the school said Ugoma breached her matriculation oath by “inappropriately filming and uploading the scene of a dying student at the University Health Centre on TikTok.” The act was described as gross misconduct.

Ugoma was suspended for four semesters starting from the 2025/2026 academic session and will resume in 2027/2028.

    The letter stated:
“You will recall that you appeared before the Students Disciplinary Committee… to defend yourself against the underlisted allegations: Act of gross misconduct.
Breach of matriculation oath arising from a case of inappropriate filming…
After due consideration… the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel O. Asagba, has approved the recommendation… that you be rusticated for four (4) semesters… You are to resume studies with effect from 2027/2028 academic session.”

The university also forwarded copies of the decision to her sponsors and relevant authorities.

Reports claim Ugoma’s stepfather reacted angrily, allegedly telling her to “k+ss her education goodbye forever” and prepare to return to the village.

Journalist Oseni Rufai has appealed to the school to reconsider. In a post on X, he wrote:
“Please sir do not allow this injustice to stand as this young lady’s future is about to be shattered and cut short.
In addition to the pandemonium, her stepfather had vehemently told her to kiss her education goodbye forever… Please sir, don’t allow this to happen to her, we need your help.”

  • ABU Debunks Viral Claim Linking It to Nuclear Weapons Development.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has dismissed a viral social media video alleging that the institution was secretly involved in developing nuclear weapons for Nigeria.

In a statement by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Malam Auwalu Umar, ABU described the AI-generated video as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to misinform the public about Nigeria’s peaceful nuclear energy program.

The video had claimed that Nigerian scientists in the 1980s enriched weapons grade uranium in Kaduna, with ABU researchers allegedly obtaining centrifuge equipment from Pakistan’s AQ Khan network.

Umar, however, debunked these allegations as baseless and unsubstantiated, clarifying that during the 1980s, most scientists at ABU’s Centre for Energy Research and Training (CERT) were still undergoing training abroad and could not have been involved in any uranium enrichment activity.

He emphasized that all of Nigeria’s nuclear activities have been transparent and strictly for peaceful purposes, in line with the country’s commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Pelindaba Treaty, which ban nuclear weapons development.

According to Umar, the Centre for Energy Research and Training, founded in 1976, operates in partnership with the IAEA and other international collaborators from the U.S., Russia, and China and has never engaged in any secret weapons project.

“ABU has consistently focused on the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology to promote national development,” he stated, adding that the university’s founder, Sir Ahmadu Bello, had shown early interest in peaceful atomic research after visiting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the U.S. in 1960.

He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing science and technology for the benefit of humanity and to upholding Nigeria’s international obligations on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

  • Attorney-General Sues Lawyer, Engineer, Others For Alleged Forgery.

Attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice (AGF) has dragged a legal practitioner, Bob Chiedozie Ugu and five others, including a civil engineer, Nnaemeka Chukwueke, to court for alleged forgery of title documents, theft, conspiracy and impersonation.

Other defendants in the charge dated April 8, 2025, are Samuel Udo-Imeh, Ifeanyi Abaekwueme, Earth Conscience Limited and NBC Infrastructure West Africa Limited.

Meanwhile, Justice Samira Umar Bature, of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has fixed January 27, 2026, for their fresh arraignment.

The commissioner of police had earlier filed a seven-count charge (FCT/HC/CR/302/2023) against Bob Chiedozie Ugu, Samuel Udo-Imeh, Ifeanyi Abaekwueme, and Earth Conscience Limited before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

However, the AGF after taking over the prosecution, increased the counts to 12 with two additional defendants, Nnaemeka Chukwueke, a civil engineer and NBC Infrastructure West Africa Limited.

The fresh charge was filed by a private counsel with the fiat of the AGF, Abdul Ter Kohol.
Meanwhile, the defendants who had pleaded not guilty to the previous charge, are yet to take their plea in the fresh charge.

In the fresh charge, the prosecution said the defendants allegedly forged title documents including the power of attorney with fraudulent intention of converting the property belonging to Nexune Nigeria Limited.

While Bob Chidozie, an Abia State-based legal practitioner, who also doubles as the managing director of Earth Conscience Limited, was a former commissioner for works in state, Samuel Udoh-Imeh, who works in the Information Technology and Services Sector, is an Abuja-based businessman.
