Insecurity Don Scatter Teaching Practice: Niger College Relocates Students From Hot Zones

Niger State College of Education, Minna has ordered the immediate relocation of students on teaching practice from Zone C and other unsafe parts of Zones A and B following worsening insecurity. The directive, based on state government security assessments, affects the 2025/2026 exercise. Only schools in Bida, Bosso, Chanchaga, Suleja LGAs and the FCT have been approved. Students posted to high-risk areas have been instructed to report for reposting, with management stressing that compliance is compulsory as safety remains the top priority.

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially secured a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The feat, achieved  at Victoria Island, Lagos, has now been formally recognized by Guinness World Records.

Announcing the confirmation on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), Guinness World Records wrote,
“New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Baci, who first gained international recognition with her headline-making cook-a-thon in 2023, has once again put Nigerian cuisine on the global stage with this achievement.

Ahead of the confirmation, Guinness World Records had sent her words of encouragement, reposting a video from the Friday event and writing, “What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

The record-breaking cooking event, hosted at Eko Hotel and Suites, drew a massive crowd of supporters, celebrities, and food lovers who came out to witness the historic moment.

With this latest milestone, Hilda Baci further cements her status as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated chefs and cultural ambassadors.
