  • US angry over Nigeria’s rejection of military base, not Christian killings CSO alleges.

A civil society organisation, Grassroot Advocacy for Peace and Good Governance, has claimed that the recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump were not about alleged religious persecution but rather a reaction to Nigeria’s refusal to approve a U.S. military base and deportee resettlement deal.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, the group’s chairman, Usman Muhammed Anache, alleged that Washington had been pressuring Abuja to allow the establishment of a U.S. military base following the withdrawal of American forces from Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.

According to him, Nigeria’s decision to decline the proposal, coupled with its recent alignment with BRICS, the economic bloc led by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, may have further strained relations between the two countries.

“The U.S. is displeased because Nigeria refused its request to set up a military base and to house American deportees. They have now resorted to using religion, knowing how sensitive Nigerians are to faith-related issues,” Anache said.

He commended Nigerian Christian leaders who openly rejected Trump’s claim of “Christian genocide,” noting that terrorist attacks in the country have affected both Muslims and Christians alike.

Anache further praised the Federal Government for what he described as its steadfastness in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and promoting peace across West Africa.

“The divisive tactic of using religion to destabilize Nigeria will never succeed. This has been their plan since independence, but Nigeria has always stood united,” he added.

Trump had last week accused Nigeria of allowing the mass killing of Christians and threatened possible U.S. military action, a remark that has continued to attract condemnation from within and outside the country.

  • Anambra governorship election: “You’ll suffer” — AAC’s Ifemeludike alleges in new video as she warns Anambra residents against re-electing Governor Soludo.

African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, has cautioned Anambra residents and alleged that they will “suffer” if they reelect Governor Chukwuma Soludo instead of voting for her in the November 8 election.

The Nollywood actress and producer criticized Soludo over the poor condition of roads in Awka, particularly Uche Ekwunife Crescent, which she described as “totally dilapidated.” She accused the governor of neglecting basic infrastructure while constructing a new Government House with “wide, paved roads for himself and his generations.”

Ifemeludike said Soludo’s administration has failed to deliver good governance or quality social amenities, claiming he is only interested in showmanship. “If you miss out, you will suffer for it because Soludo is not ready to provide real leadership,” she said.

In a Facebook post directed at the governor, she asked, “@ccsoludo, why are you afraid to repair the capital city’s bad roads? Awka shouldn’t look so rural and undeveloped. With FAAC, local allocations, and IGR, we should have Dubai/Taiwan-style infrastructure.”

She urged voters not to be deceived but to come out en masse to make a better choice on election day. “On November 8, you have a choice — and that choice is Chioma for governor 2025,” she declared.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed that 16 political parties will participate in the Anambra governorship election.

  • Tunji-Ojo certificate saga: Prove you’re not shielding South-West ministers – Gani to Tinubu.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Taofik Gani, has urged President Bola Tinubu to prove his transparency and fairness by directing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to publicly clear his name over alleged irregularities in his National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, record and previous corruption allegations.

Gani made this call in a statement on Wednesday, warning that the growing perception of nepotism and selective justice in the Tinubu administration could undermine public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

He said there are several petitions against Tunji-Ojo, including claims that he absconded during his mandatory NYSC service year but still presented a discharge certificate during his ministerial screening.

“If President Tinubu and his party, the APC, are sincere about fighting corruption, the minister should be directed to clear himself or resign honorably like Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned after allegations of certificate forgery.

“This is where President Tinubu has to prove that he is not shielding South-West ministers in corruption cases,” Gani stated.

Convener of the League for Good Governance, Isaiah Ijele, urged Tinubu to allow the Department of State Services, DSS, to investigate the certificate scandal hung on the minister.

  • Shehu Sani Mocks Labour Party Over Outrage at Governor Mbah’s Defection: “You Left Africa to Syria, They Left to Spain”

Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has taken a swipe at critics of Governor Peter Mbah’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC)—especially those from the Labour Party (LP)—accusing them of hypocrisy and selective outrage.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Sani reacted to comments made by Peter Obi, who had downplayed the political impact of Mbah’s defection but criticized the trend of cross-party movement among politicians.

Sani questioned why members of the Labour Party should be angry over a PDP member joining the APC, pointing out that many within the LP themselves were originally from the PDP.

Using his trademark humor, Sani drew a colorful analogy:

“You left Africa to Syria, and they left Africa to Spain. You are angry because they didn’t follow your route. You saw the vision and left; they only trailed your footsteps. The defectors only divorced the wife you once divorced.”

The former lawmaker argued that political migration has long been part of Nigeria’s political culture, and it was inconsistent for politicians to condemn defections when they had once done the same.

Sani’s remarks came after Obi clarified that Governor Mbah’s defection does not represent a regional political takeover, insisting that good governance—not party affiliation—should determine political support.

However, Sani’s post reframed the conversation, suggesting that Nigeria’s political class is caught in a revolving door of defections, where party switches are more about personal ambition than ideology.

His witty metaphor quickly went viral, reigniting debates about loyalty, integrity, and the fluid nature of political alliances in the country.

  • Islamism isn’t aimed at seizing power — Sultan of Sokoto says, stressing that Islam is about promoting good governance in society.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to rise above religious divides and embrace unity in order to build a stronger country.

He made this call in Abuja on Friday during the public presentation of Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor.

The Sultan explained that Islam should not be misconstrued as a quest for political power but rather as a faith built on justice, fairness and good governance. “Islamism is not aimed at seizing power at any particular forum. Islam is after good governance in society,” he stated.

He cited the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure, noting that Muslims gave him full support without bias. “President Goodluck Jonathan was President; we gave him 100 per cent support.

Throughout his presidency, nobody said anything negative against him; he knows that, and he is here. So, Islamism is not what you think it is. It is a wrong notion… We’re after good governance,” the monarch said.

The Sultan, regarded as the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, also emphasized that Islam has a clear code of conduct that rejects v+olence and fanaticism. “We have ways and means of life. Anybody coming outside these to say things that he really doesn’t know about is not for Islam because Islam abhors extremism. You cannot be an extremist and then claim to be a good Muslim,” he stressed.

He cautioned Nigerians to be mindful of their words when discussing insecurity, warning that careless statements could further divide the country. Instead, he called for unity, saying: “Let’s come closer as one big family with different backgrounds to forge ahead to make this country a better country, because there is nothing anybody can do.”

According to him, his interventions on governance and national issues are never targeted at individuals but are guided by the conviction that religion must always promote justice, peace and social harmony.

  • Fmr. Pres. Goodluck Jonathan Will Run for President in 2027 — Jerry Gana.

Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking to journalists after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, Gana said Nigerians had tried other leaders after Jonathan and now wanted him back.

“In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” he stated.

“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again,” he added.

Describing PDP as “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented,” Gana said the party had always allowed Nigerians to choose their leaders freely and dismissed talk of internal crisis.

“When there was a near crisis in the party, the founding fathers convened a consultative conference in Abuja and addressed all the issues. We are now prepared for the task ahead in 2027,” he assured.

He urged Nigerians to “shine their eyes” and vote out the current administration in favour of Jonathan’s return for “good governance.”

The state congress also produced Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Halidu as chairman with 1,289 votes, defeating Zonal Chairman Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi (Ability), who scored 1,269. Other winners were Alhaji Khadi Kuta, returned unopposed as Secretary, and Mrs Salome Ndakosu, elected Woman Leader with 1,373 votes against Ramotu Jibrin’s 590.

In his acceptance speech, Halidu called for unity, urging members to “join hands in ensuring the return of a people-oriented government in 2027.”

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed the construction of 10 kilometres of township roads in each of the state’s 21 local government areas.

The governor said the initiative fulfills his campaign promises and underscores his commitment to improving infrastructure and the well-being of the people.

Represented during a project tour by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muhammed Avohi Yusuf, Governor Ododo instructed the Kogi State Roads Maintenance Agency (KOGROMA) to deliver the road projects across the state.

Yusuf confirmed that the 10km township road project in Yagba West LGA has been completed, while similar projects are ongoing in Mopamuro and Yagba East LGAs.

“In Mopa town, we are constructing 10 kilometres of township roads. Already, four kilometres of asphalt have been laid, and earthwork for the entire stretch is completed. Once the rains are over, the remaining six kilometres will be fully asphalted,” Yusuf said.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, added that the administration is deliberately decentralizing development to ensure rural areas benefit from good governance.

“Before now, projects were concentrated in urban centres. Today, rural communities are feeling the impact of government interventions. The Chief Servant is committed to ensuring development reaches the grassroots,” Fanwo stated.

He urged citizens to take ownership of the projects and protect them from vandalism to ensure long-term sustainability.

  • US Vows Visa Ban for Corrupt Nigerian Officials.

The United States Mission in Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling corruption, warning that no individual, regardless of their influence or position, will be exempt from sanctions.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Mission stressed that the fight against corruption transcends borders and high-profile individuals found guilty of such practices could face strict consequences, including visa restrictions.

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas,” the Mission declared.

The announcement is seen as part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to pressure Nigeria and other countries battling widespread corruption to strengthen accountability and governance systems.

Over the years, the United States has imposed similar restrictions on government officials, politicians, and business figures linked to corrupt practices in Nigeria, often barring them and their families from entering U.S. territory.

Observers say the latest warning signals Washington’s readiness to intensify scrutiny, especially at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with corruption scandals cutting across various sectors.

The move is also likely to serve as a deterrent, as the U.S. continues to position itself as a partner in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Africa’s largest democracy.

  • AGG Slams APC League of Professionals Over Attacks on Primate Ayodele

The Alliance for Good Governance (AGG) has strongly criticized the APC League of Professionals (ALP) over its recent response to Primate Elijah Ayodele’s prophecies concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing ALP’s position as “a shameful display of ignorance, misinformation, and falsehood.”

In a statement signed by its president, Sola Johnson, AGG accused ALP of embarrassing itself by sponsoring media publications against the cleric, who has consistently issued spiritual counsel and warnings to Nigerian leaders.

“Day in and day out, the man of God is criticized for his prophecies, but this particular one by ALP is laughable. It reeks of ignorance, misunderstanding, and drunken misinformation. For a group that claims to be professionals, they have only succeeded in presenting themselves like stark illiterates and rumour peddlers,” Johnson said.

He dismissed as false and fabricated the claim that Primate Ayodele told President Tinubu not to contest in the 2027 elections.

“How can someone who has been advising on strategies that could make the president win or lose suddenly tell him not to contest? It is embarrassing that ALP would stoop so low to concoct lies,” he added.

On Prophecies About Trump and the Economy

Responding to Ayodele’s caution that Tinubu should be careful in his dealings with former U.S. President Donald Trump, AGG insisted the advice was both timely and crucial.

“This is a prophecy the president himself should take note of to make informed decisions. What exactly is paining this amateur group in this message? They are clearly more interested in attacking the prophet than protecting the president’s interest,” the group noted.

AGG also condemned ALP’s stance that prophets should not speak on economic matters, describing it as “evidence of serious illiteracy.”

“The Bible itself is full of examples where men of God shaped national economies. Joseph’s foresight saved Egypt from famine, Elijah foretold economic recovery in Israel. To say a prophet cannot speak on the economy is shallow reasoning,” Johnson argued.

On security matters, AGG clarified that Ayodele has expressed support for the idea of state police, but warned against its potential misuse by politicians.

The group further cautioned President Tinubu not to be swayed by groups like ALP, alleging they were more interested in undermining his administration than ensuring his success.

“This group is not after Tinubu’s success; they are after his failure. By trying to turn him against the word of God, they are pushing him toward defeat. The president must be very careful of such misguided elements,” Johnson warned.

  • AAC Party Warns Against Rising Slogan 'No Alia, No Benue' As Threat To Democracy

The African Action Congress (AAC), FCT Chapter, has cautioned against the growing use of the slogan “No Alia, No Benue”, warning that it poses a direct threat to democracy and civic engagement in Benue State.

In a statement on Saturday, AAC Chairman Ande said the slogan, promoted in support of Governor Hyacinth Alia, carries a sinister undertone that undermines democratic principles by suggesting that governance in the state is inseparably tied to one individual.

He argued that such narratives promote personality cultism, stifle dissent, and risk destabilizing the state by sowing division among citizens.

Ande urged Benue people to reject the slogan, embrace civic participation, and focus on accountability and good governance instead of elevating leaders above democratic institutions.

  • Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State election has died at the age of 60.

His Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed that he passed away on Thursday at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos. Born on April 2, 1964, Akingboye was a businessman, philanthropist & community leader.

He served as Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime & Clog Oil Systems, as well as President of WeAfrica Group. He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland. He is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren & siblings. The family said burial arrangements will be announced later.

In his tribute, Ondo SDP Chairman, Ebenezer Akinbuli, described Akingboye as a visionary leader committed to service. “During his campaign, he shared his vision for a brighter Ondo State, anchored on good governance, social justice & sustainable development. His passion and leadership inspired many & his legacy will endure” Akinbuli said.

He stressed that the Federal Government has not borrowed from local banks since the beginning of the year, underscoring the impact of the improved fiscal position.

The Presidency further explained that the revenue surge has boosted allocations at the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), with disbursements to states and local governments exceeding ₦2 trillion in July for the first time in history.

This, it said, has provided subnational governments with greater resources to fund food security, infrastructure, and social services. It, however, admitted that despite the record revenue, allocations are still insufficient to meet the administration’s ambitions in education, health, and infrastructure.

Highlighting the shift away from oil dependency, the Presidency disclosed that non-oil revenues contributed ₦15.69 trillion of the total, accounting for three out of every four naira collected. While inflation and foreign exchange revaluation played a role, it said the growth was mainly reform-driven — through Customs automation, digitised filings, tighter enforcement, and expanded compliance.
