  • EXCLUSIVE: Enugu Lawyer Accused of Defrauding Widow of Police Officer Killed by SARS in Multi-Billion Naira Scheme

A SaharaReporters investigation has uncovered how Enugu-based lawyer, Barrister Tony Igwe, allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated scheme to defraud Gift Ezenwa—the widow of former police officer Collins Ezenwa, who was extrajudicially killed by the defunct SARS in 2018. After presenting himself as a trusted ally capable of recovering her husband's seized assets, Igwe allegedly manipulated, isolated, and exploited the young widow, taking control of her finances, properties, and legal documents. The investigation reveals accusations of forgery, threats, financial manipulation, illegal property sales, and the diversion of billions of naira. Igwe is also alleged to have exploited her postpartum vulnerability and controlled her life for years, including during her forced relocation to the UK. Evidence suggests he liquidated her assets, emptied accounts, and exercised psychological control while posing as her protector. Multiple law enforcement sources describe the case as one of the most shocking abuses of trust and legal malpractice in recent years.

  • Businessman Detains Wife and Three Children in Abuja After She Leaves Marriage, Family Accuses Police of Complicity

A Nigerian businessman, Chukwudi Christopher Ike, has allegedly orchestrated the arrest and detention of his wife, Adaeze Gift Echendu Ike, and their three children after she walked out of their marriage and travelled to Abuja. The woman was intercepted at the airport by individuals posing as “Airport Crime Watch” operatives and later held at the Airport Police Division over what family members describe as false allegations of theft. Despite lawyers' efforts, the police—allegedly influenced by the husband—refused to grant bail, detaining even the children, including a sick infant. The family accuses the police of weaponizing law enforcement power in a private marital dispute, while the husband defends his actions as an attempt to locate his family after they left without his knowledge.

Nigeria’s entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of Akinloye Tofowomo, fondly known as Akiin Shuga, the vibrant live band icon and founder of Shuga Band. He passed away in New Brunswick, Canada, at the age of 50.

His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement on Instagram, describing him as a “revered music icon, Grandmaster, and custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance.”
