In a major boost for Nigeria’s energy sector, Dangote Group has secured a multi-million-dollar contract to expand the capacity of the Dangote Refinery in Lekki to an impressive 1.4 million barrels per day. According to the refinery, the expansion will solidify its position as a “global heavyweight,” transforming the complex into a multi-train facility of unmatched scale. The move is seen as a giant leap toward national fuel independence, reduced imports and stronger economic growth. Stakeholders say the project could significantly lower fuel costs and strengthen Nigeria’s export potential.

  • I’m honestly disappointed in VeryDarkBlackMan over this move. With the massive support, loyalty, and admiration he receives from his Ratel community and Queens, this feels like a clear strategic misstep. When a community helps build you, your personal choices inevitably carry symbolic weight—intended or not.

He has countless beautiful, confident, and committed Ratel queens who genuinely ride for him, yet he chose to look elsewhere. That decision creates a disconnect. This isn’t about control over his personal life—it’s about optics, alignment, and respect for the ecosystem that amplified his voice and brand.

Influence comes with responsibility. When your actions contradict the values and emotions of your core supporters, disappointment is inevitable. He could have made a choice that strengthened loyalty and unity instead of raising questions and dampening morale. For someone so vocal about representation and community, this outcome is simply underwhelming.

  • Are Terrorists Fleeing U.S. Airstrikes in Sokoto Now Spreading Violence Into Benue? Why Agatu Council Chairman Says Armed Groups Have Infiltrated Communities, Forced Policy Reversals, and Triggered a New Security Crisis

Are counterterrorism operations in one part of Nigeria unintentionally pushing violence into other states? That is the concern raised by the Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State, James Melvin Ejeh, who says armed groups displaced by recent U.S.–Nigerian military airstrikes in Sokoto State are now infiltrating communities in his region.

According to Ejeh, terrorists targeted in coordinated air operations in December have not been eliminated but instead relocated across state borders, spreading insecurity into rural Benue communities. He described a surge in attacks on Agatu villages, warning that innocent residents are now facing “unprecedented terror” as fleeing fighters establish new footholds.

The council chairman said intelligence reports and local accounts indicate that the militants, after being dislodged from Sokoto, are moving into neighbouring states, with Agatu among the hardest hit. He stressed that what was intended as a strategic blow against terrorism may now be creating a dangerous spillover effect, exposing vulnerable farming communities to renewed violence.

In response to the escalating attacks, Ejeh announced a decisive policy shift: the immediate cancellation of a 2017 grazing agreement that allowed herdsmen access to Adepati Island. He argued that the agreement, originally framed as a peacebuilding measure, had instead compromised community safety and enabled armed elements to operate within Agatu territory.

Describing the pact as an arrangement made “under the guise of promoting peaceful coexistence,” Ejeh accused previous local administrations of placing diplomacy above the security of residents. He declared the agreement null and void, ordered all armed herders to vacate Agatu land, and emphasized that no portion of Agatu belongs to herders under any guise.

Ejeh further revealed that security agencies have begun arrests and investigations, warning that anyone found collaborating with armed groups will face the full weight of the law. He maintained that the people of Agatu have reached a firm position: no future engagement with herders will occur unless it is conducted lawfully, transparently, and only after broad consultation with traditional rulers and community stakeholders.

The development raises urgent national questions: Are military airstrikes merely displacing terrorists rather than dismantling their networks? Is Nigeria witnessing a dangerous redistribution of insecurity from one region to another? And can local governments withstand the security fallout without stronger federal coordination?

As communities in Benue confront the consequences of a conflict they did not initiate, the Agatu chairman’s warning highlights a growing fear that counterterrorism victories in one state may be creating new frontlines elsewhere, leaving civilians trapped in the crossfire of shifting militant movements.

  • How Did Anthony Joshua Survive While His Friends Died? Boxer Breaks Silence After Tragic Crash, Mourns Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele

How does a world-famous champion come to terms with a tragedy that took the lives of those closest to him? And what does faith, grief, and survival mean when you are left behind?

Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has finally broken his silence after the fatal crash that claimed the lives of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, describing the moment as one of deep sorrow, reflection, and spiritual resolve. In his first public message since the incident, Joshua turned to X (formerly Twitter) to thank supporters and mourn the men he called his “brothers.”

Their funeral prayers, held at the London Central Mosque, drew large crowds of mourners from both the Nigerian and British communities, including friends, associates, and supporters who gathered to pay their final respects. The turnout reflected not just the loss of two individuals, but the weight of a tragedy that has shaken Joshua’s inner circle.

In his message, the boxer revealed how he had never fully understood the importance of those around him until it was too late. “I didn’t even realise how special they are… not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men,” he wrote. His words captured the pain of hindsight—how ordinary moments of laughter and companionship suddenly became memories of irreplaceable lives.

But was Joshua the true victim of the crash—or merely the survivor of a loss that families will carry forever? The boxer acknowledged that while the experience had been emotionally devastating for him, the burden on the parents and loved ones of the deceased was far heavier. “100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents,” he said.

Joshua also turned to faith for comfort, expressing his belief that God understood the hearts of the men who were lost. “I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts,” he wrote, before ending with a simple but powerful prayer: “May God have mercy on my brothers.”

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue, public attention has remained fixed not only on the tragedy itself but on Joshua’s survival. Why was the boxing star spared when those closest to him were not? And how does one move forward when fame, success, and strength cannot shield against grief?

For fans around the world, Joshua’s message offers more than mourning—it reveals a deeply personal side of a global sports icon grappling with loss, faith, and the fragile nature of life. In the aftermath of the crash, his words stand as a reminder that even champions are not immune to heartbreak, and that survival can sometimes be the heaviest burden of all.

  • Why Is the ADC Inaugurating Zonal Congress Committees, Why Is It Rejecting Any Alliance With Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, and Jonathan, and What Does This Signal for Nigeria’s 2027 Politics?

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved to strengthen its internal structure by inaugurating Zonal Congress Committees across three geopolitical zones, while firmly rejecting widespread speculation that the party is aligning with major political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Goodluck Jonathan.

In a communique signed by the party’s National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, the ADC said the exercise was part of efforts to entrench internal democracy, transparency, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution ahead of future elections.

According to the statement, the South-West Zonal Congress Committee was inaugurated in Ekiti State on January 7, 2026, with Hon. Bala Sani named Chairman and Hon. Kyauta Yakubu heading the Appeal Committee. The ceremony was conducted by the National Chairman himself.

In the South-East, a similar inauguration took place in Enugu State on the same date. Barrister Adamu Ado Dauda was appointed Chairman of the Congress Committee, while Mrs. Iyabo Salami Alibi was named head of the Appeal Committee. The event was presided over by the Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Rufus Ekenmi.

Earlier, on January 5, 2026, the party inaugurated its North-Central Zonal Congress Committee, appointing Hon. Lolo Ehirudu as Chairman of the Congress Committee and Hon. Sa’ad Aboki as head of the Appeal Committee.

Beyond organisational matters, the ADC used the occasion to directly address growing rumours of a possible political alliance with prominent national figures. The party categorically dismissed claims linking it to Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“The National Leadership reiterates its unwavering commitment to the principles of internal democracy, transparency, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution,” the communique stated, urging members and the public to “disregard and ignore” all reports of external political alignments. The party stressed that its focus remains on building “a strong, independent, and ideologically driven platform.”

The ADC also emphasised that only duly registered and financially up-to-date members would be eligible to vote or contest in its congresses and internal elections, reinforcing its claim of commitment to internal order and party discipline.

By distancing itself from Nigeria’s most recognisable political heavyweights, the party appears determined to project itself as an independent alternative within the country’s democratic space—one that is not defined by elite coalitions or personality-driven politics.

As speculation continues over emerging alliances ahead of future elections, observers are asking: Why is the ADC rejecting any association with established political figures? Is the party positioning itself as a third-force movement, or is this a strategic move to consolidate its base before engaging in broader negotiations? And could this internal reorganisation reshape opposition politics in Nigeria ahead of 2027?

The ADC insists its direction is clear: no external alliances, strict internal democracy, and a people-centred political platform—a stance that may test both its independence and its appeal in Nigeria’s highly competitive political landscape.

  • How Did Nigerian Writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Lose Her 21-Month-Old Son? What the Family’s Statement Reveals About the Tragic Passing of Little Nkanu Nnamdi

Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, are mourning the heartbreaking loss of their 21-month-old son, Nkanu Nnamdi, who passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, following a brief illness.

The family confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued on Thursday by Omawumi Ogbe, requesting privacy as they grieve. According to the statement, one of the couple’s twin boys, Nkanu Nnamdi, died after a short period of illness. The family described the loss as devastating and asked the public and the media to allow them space during what they called an “incredibly difficult time.”

The statement read in part that the family is deeply saddened by the passing of their child and appealed for grace, prayers, and respect for their seclusion, stressing that no further public comments would be made. It underscored the emotional weight of the moment, acknowledging the profound pain that accompanies the loss of a young child.

Chimamanda Adichie, celebrated globally for works such as Half of a Yellow Sun, Americanah, and We Should All Be Feminists, has long been regarded as one of Africa’s most influential literary voices. News of her personal tragedy has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from readers, admirers, and members of the literary community, many of whom have expressed condolences while honoring the family’s request for privacy.

While the family did not disclose details beyond confirming that the child died after a brief illness, the announcement highlights the fragile nature of life and the shared human experience of grief—transcending fame, public recognition, and achievement. The careful wording of the statement reflects a desire to protect the family’s space as they navigate mourning away from public scrutiny.

As messages of support continue to emerge, the central appeal remains clear: respect the family’s need for quiet and dignity during this time of sorrow. For many, the story serves as a reminder that behind celebrated public figures are families who experience loss just as deeply as anyone else.

  • Is This Crazy or Inspirational? Why Did T-Pain Buy a Private Jet for His Family—and What Does It Say About His Comeback? | Fintter

Is buying a private jet for your family a bold celebration of success—or a risky flex in an industry known for financial crashes?

Grammy-winning American rapper and singer T-Pain has set social media ablaze after surprising his mother and family with a private jet, in an emotional moment captured on video. The clip, shared on his official pages on January 6, 2026, shows the artist—real name Faheem Rashad Najm—leading his loved ones toward a sleek blue-and-white aircraft on an airport tarmac before casually revealing: he bought it for them.

His mother’s stunned reaction said it all.
“You just bought the plane?! This is crazy!” she exclaimed, as the family broke into celebration, boarding the jet and enjoying snacks and drinks inside the cabin. For T-Pain, the moment symbolised more than luxury—it was victory after years of struggle.

But the big question remains: Is this a powerful story of redemption, or a financial gamble dressed as success?

From Financial Struggles to a Private Jet

T-Pain’s lavish gift comes nearly a year after a major financial turning point. In February 2025, the rapper sold his music publishing catalogue and select master rights to HarbourView Equity Partners. He described the deal as one that would “secure wealth for generations,” marking a dramatic shift in his financial trajectory.

This move followed a difficult chapter in his career. In the late 2000s, T-Pain revealed that mismanagement of a $40 million advance had led to serious financial setbacks, despite his global fame. For years, fans watched as one of music’s most influential hitmakers appeared to fade from the spotlight.

Now, the private jet is being seen as a symbol of resurgence, redemption, and smart long-term strategy.

    A Celebration—or a Warning Sign?

Online reactions have been mixed but emotional. Many fans praised T-Pain for making his mother proud and reclaiming his place at the top. Others offered words of caution, urging him to protect his wealth, avoid unnecessary spending, and ensure the jet is used strategically—through chartering, tax planning, or business operations.

Some observers even called the purchase a “tax-savvy power move”, suggesting that with proper management, private aircraft ownership can reduce operating costs and generate income when leased.

But critics ask: In an industry filled with stories of stars who went broke after extravagant spending, is buying a private jet truly wise? Or is it a dangerous symbol of excess?

What Does This Say About Success in Music Today?

Beyond the headlines, T-Pain’s story raises deeper questions about modern celebrity wealth:

Is selling a music catalogue the smartest way for artists to secure long-term financial freedom?

Does luxury spending reflect success—or does real wealth lie in investments and sustainability?

Should public figures be celebrated for lavish displays, or for financial discipline?

Interestingly, the debate echoes comments made by Nigerian music mogul Don Jazzy, who recently said he would never buy a private jet despite being able to afford one. He emphasised investments, personal growth, and long-term impact over flashy purchases.

So where does T-Pain’s decision fall—visionary or risky?

A Moment of Pride, a Test of Legacy

For T-Pain and his family, the jet is more than a machine—it is a symbol of perseverance, recovery, and gratitude. His declaration in the video, “We fing did it,”* reflects the emotional weight of overcoming past mistakes and reclaiming success.

Yet, for fans and critics alike, the story invites a broader conversation:
Is this the ultimate example of “making it,” or a reminder that wealth must be handled with extreme care?

  • Delcy Rodriguez Sworn In as Interim President of Venezuela After US Capture of Nicolas Maduro and Wife, Signals Conditional Cooperation With Washington

Venezuela’s former Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has been sworn in as interim president following the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, by United States forces. The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday at the National Assembly in Caracas, drawing global attention amid rising diplomatic tensions and cautious signals of possible engagement with Washington, according to AFP.

Rodriguez, who took the oath “in the name of all Venezuelans,” expressed sorrow over the detention of Maduro and Flores, describing them as “hostages in the United States.” While condemning the US operation, the National Assembly pledged full support for Rodriguez’s interim leadership. Lawmakers also re-elected her brother, Jorge Rodriguez, as parliamentary speaker, consolidating the family’s grip on both the executive and legislative arms of government.

During the session, legislators chanted slogans linked to Maduro’s controversial 2024 re-election campaign, which was widely criticised by opposition groups and foreign governments, including the United States, as fraudulent. Senior lawmakers accused President Donald Trump of overstepping international norms, vowing to pursue all avenues to secure Maduro’s return to power.

Venezuela’s Supreme Court authorised Rodriguez to assume the presidency in an acting capacity, a move later endorsed by the military. Maduro’s son, Nicolas Maduro Guerra, and the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) also threw their weight behind Rodriguez, insisting the country remains stable under her leadership. The PSUV and its allies currently control 256 of the 286 seats in parliament following elections boycotted by much of the opposition.

Despite insisting that Maduro remains Venezuela’s “only legitimate president,” Rodriguez extended a conditional offer of cooperation to Washington, which has indicated willingness to work with Caracas if its demands on political reforms and oil access are met. However, Trump warned that Rodriguez could face consequences similar to or worse than Maduro’s if she failed to comply with US directives.

The unfolding developments mark a dramatic turning point in Venezuela’s political crisis, deepening internal power consolidation while reshaping the country’s already strained relationship with the United States.

  • Scandal Hits NJC Judicial Interview Panel as Nepotism Allegations Emerge After Member’s Daughter, Other ‘Insider Candidates’ Named for Judicial Appointments

Public controversy has erupted over the composition of a key National Judicial Council (NJC) interview panel following allegations of nepotism and insider dealing in the selection of candidates for judicial appointments. Judicial sources told SaharaReporters that the panel was constituted in a manner that allegedly favours connected candidates, raising serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and conflict of interest.

According to the sources, the interview panel is chaired by Justice Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court. Allegations have emerged that a foster child and research assistant of Justice Okoro is being positioned as the preferred candidate from Akwa Ibom State. Further concerns were raised after retired Supreme Court Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs was reportedly named to replace another panel member, despite claims that his daughter is an “insider candidate” from Kaduna State and is among those to be interviewed.

Other members of the panel include retired Supreme Court justices Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili and Bode Rhodes-Vivour, former Court of Appeal Justice Adeola Moshood, as well as current and former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidents Afam Osigwe and Yakubu Maikyau. While their inclusion adds institutional weight, critics argue it does not sufficiently address the alleged conflicts of interest.

Human rights lawyer and former NHRC chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, publicly condemned the situation, stating that allowing a panel member to interview his own daughter violates basic principles of conflict of interest and undermines the credibility of the judicial appointment process.

The allegations have sparked widespread debate among legal practitioners, civil society groups, and the public, with many warning that perceived insider dealing within the judiciary could erode public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system. Observers are calling on the NJC to ensure strict adherence to transparency, impartiality, and ethical standards in the selection of judicial officers.

  • Tinubu Orders Security Agencies to Intensify Operations Around Forest Communities After Deadly Niger State Market Attack That Killed Over 40

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security agencies to intensify operations around vulnerable communities, particularly those located near forests, following a deadly terrorist attack in Niger State that left more than 40 people dead and many women and children abducted. The attack occurred at Kasuwa Daji market along the Sokobara–Tunga Demo axis in Borgu Local Government Area, sparking outrage among residents who accused security forces of responding only after victims’ bodies were being evacuated.

In a statement personally issued on January 4, 2026, President Tinubu said he had ordered the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to hunt down those responsible for the attack and ensure they are swiftly brought to justice. He described the attackers as terrorists who had tested the resolve of the nation and warned that they would face the full weight of the law.

The President also cautioned that anyone found aiding, abetting, or enabling the attackers would be prosecuted, regardless of their status or intent. He further instructed security agencies to urgently rescue all abducted victims and strengthen security presence in at-risk areas across the country, with particular focus on communities near forests that have increasingly become targets of violent attacks.

Calling for national unity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to confront insecurity collectively and deny criminal elements any safe haven. He expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the attack and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security to affected communities, stressing that Nigeria must stand together to defeat terrorism and reclaim safety for its citizens.

  • Anthony Joshua Car Crash: Eyewitness Breaks Silence, Blames Third Vehicle for Fatal Accident That Killed Boxer’s Friends as Nigerians React Online

A Nigerian man who claims to be an eyewitness to the tragic car crash involving heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly, offering his account of how the fatal accident occurred. The crash, which claimed the lives of two people—Sina and Latif Latz, described as close friends of the boxer—has continued to generate intense public debate and speculation across social media.

In a video shared on TikTok and later circulated widely, the eyewitness stated that the driver of Anthony Joshua’s vehicle should not be solely blamed for the incident. According to his account, another vehicle overtook Joshua’s car at high speed moments before the crash and disappeared from the scene. He explained that this sudden overtaking triggered the chain of events that led to Joshua’s vehicle colliding with a truck, suggesting that without the truck, the car might have veered into a gutter instead.

The eyewitness maintained that the unidentified vehicle that overtook them was the real cause of the accident, insisting that the driver and passengers in Joshua’s car were not entirely at fault. His explanation has sparked mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the clarity of his account, while others called for a proper investigation backed by dashcam footage and road surveillance cameras.

Social media users expressed varied opinions, with some arguing that only Anthony Joshua and his driver can give a definitive explanation of what happened, while others criticized the absence of official investigative details from authorities. Several commenters also highlighted the lack of functional road cameras in Nigeria, saying this fuels speculation and conflicting narratives after major accidents.

The incident has renewed public concern over road safety, accountability, and accident investigations in Nigeria. As reactions continue to pour in, many Nigerians are urging law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to establish the true cause of the crash and put lingering doubts to rest.
