Residents in Onitsha, Nnewi, and other parts of Anambra State continued to observe the weekly Monday sit-at-home, showing solidarity with Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, even after his conviction and imprisonment.

Businesses, schools, banks, hospitals, and government offices remained shut, while streets were largely empty, reflecting widespread public support for Kanu.Some locals told Vanguard that the sit-at-home is a voluntary protest and not enforced by IPOB. They clarified that previous claims of IPOB-imposed lockdowns were misleading, noting that any criminal activity during past protests was opportunistic and not organized by the group.

Obed Nwachukwu stated, “Those expecting markets and businesses to reopen because of Kanu’s imprisonment will have to wait. We are standing in solidarity with him until he regains freedom.”

Chief Okwudili Okoye added, “The Federal Government’s assertions and the Abuja Federal High Court’s ruling lack credibility. The Monday sit-at-home will continue voluntarily to demand justice and fairness for Ndigbo. Normal activities will resume only when Nnamdi Kanu is free.”

Residents stressed that the protest extends beyond IPOB, serving as a wider demonstration of solidarity with Kanu and a stand against what they perceive as unfair treatment of the Igbo people.

Military reportedly deploys patrol team on Gado Nasko Road amid suspected assasination attempt report on Lt. Yerima

Lieutenant A.M. Yerima was allegedly trailed by unidentified individuals on Sunday, prompting a heightened military presence along the Gado Nasko Road in Kubwa.

According to report from Vanguard,At around 7 p.m., a convoy of eight military vehicles was observed patrolling the Gado Nasko axis, reportedly due to concerns over the officer’s safety.

The incident allegedly involved two unmarked white Hilux vans, whose occupants—dressed in black—were said to have followed Lt. Yerima from the NIPCO Station off the Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasko Road around 6 p.m. This development reportedly triggered the immediate activation of security protocols in the area.

Despite the reports, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied receiving any information regarding an assassination attempt or the trailing of the officer.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that no such incident had been reported or recorded anywhere within the FCT. She urged the public to disregard circulating claims, describing them as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic. Residents were also advised to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police division or through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.

Meanwhile, military authorities have confirmed that the alleged trailing is under investigation as they continue to assess the situation and ensure the officer’s safety.

Military sources told Vanguard that unidentified men dressed in black, driving two unmarked Hilux vans without number plates, trailed the officer from the NIPCO Filling Station along the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. Their coordinated movement reportedly raised immediate suspicion.

Upon sensing the threat, Yarima executed a “strategic maneuver,” successfully shaking off the suspected assailants around 6:30 p.m. The matter is currently under investigation, with officials describing it as “sensitive” and insisting that certain details are being withheld to avoid compromising ongoing findings.

This incident comes barely days after Yarima’s viral confrontation with Wike at a disputed land site in Gaduwa an exchange that sparked public outrage and forced the Presidency to halt the demolition exercise.

Following the clash, military veterans nationwide condemned Wike’s conduct, labelling his verbal attack on the officer as disrespectful and unacceptable. Coalition spokesman, Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, warned that ex-service members were prepared to “occupy” the minister’s office and residence if any disciplinary action was taken against Yarima, stressing that military personnel owe allegiance to the nation, not to individual officials.

Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru Abubakar, later reassured the public that no officer acting lawfully would be punished, emphasising that the government remains committed to protecting personnel performing their duties professionally.

Veterans had earlier vowed to mobilise across the country should Lt. Yarima face any form of penalty a threat many say reflects the depth of support the young officer currently enjoys.

According to the source, Yarima noticed the men trailing him and executed a “strategic maneuver,” successfully evading the suspected assailants.

The source added that the matter is under investigation and is receiving “the seriousness it deserves.”

The source also disclosed to the publication that further details are being withheld so as not to compromise the investigation.

Benue Insecurity: Zaki Biam Residents Pay Kidnappers N100,000 for Protection.

Residents of Zaki Biam in Ukum LGA, Benue State, are gripped by fear as criminal activities escalate, including kidnapping threats, motorcycle theft, and suspected cult operations.

A community source told Vanguard correspondent over the weekend that residents have been receiving calls from unknown individuals demanding money and threatening abduction. 

“People are scared because these callers sound serious and very coordinated. We need urgent help before things get out of hand,” he said.

He added that insecurity has worsened due to the activities of an alleged cult group that reportedly meets at the shop of its suspected leader, located at the former SSS office along Yam Market bypass. 

“These boys meet both during the day and very late at night. Their activities are suspicious, and everyone in the area is worried about what they are planning.”

Motorcycle theft has also surged. Thieves reportedly target riders at night, creating heightened tension in a community where motorcycles are essential for transport and livelihood. “Because all the motorcycle thefts have happened at night, people no longer move around freely once it gets dark,” he said.

The fear is intensified by kidnapping threats. “One case involved a POS operator who allegedly paid ₦100,000 after being threatened by criminals who warned they would kidnap him if he refused. Imagine receiving a call telling you to send money or you will be taken away. That is the kind of fear people here are living with every day,” he added.

Residents are calling for urgent intervention from security agencies. “We are appealing to the government and security operatives to come to our rescue. Lives and property are no longer safe, and something must be done urgently,” he lamented.

Fomer Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to report that he gave Lieutenant A.M Yerima a brand new SUV for challenging the Minster of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The reaction of the former Vice President was contained in a report that was published on the official X handle of Vanguard on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

This is coming after the FCT Minister had a dispute with the military personnel while trying to access a land in Abuja.

In the report that surfaced online, Atiku's media aide, Paul Ibe stated that the report claiming that the former Vice President gifted the officer a brand new SUV is false and misleading. Ibe said the report emanated from mischief makers to tarnish the image of Atiku Abubakar.

He however, urged the general public to disregard the report.

Chidoka Slams Wike Over Verbal Clash With Soldier, Calls It “Grave Error in Judgment”

According to a report by Vanguard News on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has strongly criticised FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for verbally attacking a military officer during a confrontation in Gaduwa District, Abuja, describing the act as a serious lapse in judgment and a breach of protocol.

In a viral video making rounds online, Wike was seen engaging in a heated exchange with a uniformed officer, accusing him of illegally protecting a disputed plot of land allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff — even calling the officer a fool.

Reacting through a statement titled “Minister Wike: Power, Process, and the Rule of Law,” Chidoka said the minister’s outburst was disrespectful to the Nigerian state and undermined the authority of uniformed officers, who represent the President and national sovereignty.

“Every law enforcement officer embodies the authority of the Nigerian state. To insult one is to insult the nation itself,” Chidoka asserted.

He stressed that Wike’s direct involvement in the confrontation was a constitutional misstep, noting that in a democracy, power must be exercised through institutions, not through personal showdowns.

According to Chidoka, if the officers were acting outside their mandate, the proper step would have been a formal communication to the Minister of Defence, not public humiliation.

He further warned that public disputes between ministers and uniformed officers weaken discipline within the military and blur the lines of command and respect.

“A minister’s power lies in process, not in display,” Chidoka said, urging Wike to apologise for his language and uphold the dignity of his office.


Chidoka also faulted the DSS personnel attached to Wike for failing to de-escalate the tension, insisting their duty was to protect the minister — not to fuel the confrontation.

He concluded that the incident should serve as a lesson in restraint and governance, reminding public officials that true authority is exercised through due process, not personal confrontation.

Police Declare Sowore Wanted, Order Arrest Over Planned Lagos Protest.

According to Vanguard on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has ordered the arrest of activist Omoyele Sowore. The police accuse him of planning to cause public disorder and block major roads in Lagos.

Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh told reporters at the Third Mainland Bridge that Sowore and others are trying to organise protests that could disrupt traffic at key locations like the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park. “Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” he warned.

The police said 13 people connected to the planned protests have been arrested already, but Sowore has not yet been caught. The Command stressed that blocking roads, especially the Third Mainland Bridge, risks serious traffic jams and endangers commuters. The bridge was never designed to hold stopped vehicles for long.

Security officers have been deployed across major highways with roadblocks to prevent disturbances and protect important infrastructure. The police also said recent demolitions in areas like Oworo-Soki have raised tensions, but the government claims residents have been compensated.

French Woman Scammed of £700,000 by AI Impersonating Brad Pitt, Turns Ordeal Into Book

According to Vanguard, Anne Deneuchatel, a 53-year-old French interior designer, was defrauded of more than £700,000 by Nigerian scammers who used artificial intelligence to impersonate Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. She has since chronicled her traumatic experience in a new book titled Je ne serai plus une proie (I Will No Longer Be a Prey).

In her memoir, Deneuchatel recounts how the scam began with a message on Instagram from someone claiming to be Brad Pitt’s mother. Shortly afterward, she was introduced to an AI-generated version of the actor via Telegram. Lonely and trapped in what she described as a loveless marriage to a “selfish and manipulative millionaire businessman,” she quickly developed a strong emotional bond with the fake “Brad.”

The impostors exploited her vulnerability, gradually persuading her to send money under various pretexts. Reflecting on her state of mind at the time, Deneuchatel told Le Monde:

“My husband had put me in a bind. He said I should be content to be a trophy. I no longer had any independence. At one point, it seemed easier to help ‘Brad’ than to help myself.”


Over time, her savings were wiped out. The breaking point came when the fraudster demanded £13,000 for a supposed private jet trip. Feeling emotionally drained and alone, she finally reported the scam to the police.

Despite the devastating financial loss, Deneuchatel said the experience had one unexpected outcome: the collapse of her toxic marriage. “It’s the only positive thing to come out of the scam,” she admitted.

Today, she shares her story as a warning against online fraud, emphasizing the psychological manipulation behind such scams and the ease with which technology can be weaponized to exploit human emotions.

Rivers Budget Controversy: Fubara Proposed ₦1.1trn, Ibas Pushed ₦1.8trn Approved by NASS – Tariah

Former media aide to ex-Governor Nyesom Wike, Opunabo Inkor-Tariah, has raised alarm over alleged financial discrepancies in Rivers State under the six-month emergency rule, which is scheduled to expire on September 18, 2025.

In an interview reported by Vanguard on Wednesday, Inkor-Tariah insisted that Sole Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) must provide a full account of how state funds were managed during the period.

He revealed that while Governor Siminalayi Fubara had initially presented a budget of about ₦1.1 trillion, Admiral Ibas submitted a revised budget of nearly ₦1.8 trillion to the National Assembly—an increase of over ₦600 billion—which was swiftly approved.

“Governor Fubara’s original budget was about ₦1.1 trillion, but Admiral Ibas presented a revised budget of nearly ₦1.8 trillion to the National Assembly, which was approved for spending during the emergency,” he stated.

According to Inkor-Tariah, Rivers generates more than ₦20 billion monthly from internally generated revenue (IGR), yet there has been little visible development on the ground to justify such massive spending. He argued that Rivers people deserve transparency and accountability in how public funds are utilized.

He further criticized the sidelining of Governor Fubara, describing him as a “ceremonial governor” with limited influence under the emergency arrangement.

“The Assembly will come back, the local government chairmen are Wike’s men, while commissioners will come from Fubara. So, Fubara will come and remain like that,” he warned, suggesting that the governor’s power may remain curtailed even after the emergency ends.

Inkor-Tariah dismissed Admiral Ibas’ claims of restoring peace, saying ordinary citizens, including youth corps members, insist that insecurity and hardship have worsened since Fubara’s suspension.

He described the emergency rule as a political tactic rather than a genuine response to insecurity, arguing that it was designed to weaken Fubara and consolidate control for entrenched political interests.

The former aide also maintained that political influence in Rivers is still firmly controlled by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who dominates both PDP and APC structures in the state. This, he noted, makes the 2027 elections a decisive moment for Rivers politics.

Beyond Rivers, Inkor-Tariah said dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration is deepening nationwide. He warned that if grievances are not addressed, there could be a push for a united opposition front to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.

A former media aide to Governor Nyesom Wike, Mr. Opunabo Inkor-Tariah, has shared his views on former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.

In an interview with Vanguard on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Inkor-Tariah praised Amaechi’s record as a minister but argued that he still has a long way to go if he intends to rival Obi’s nationwide popularity.

According to him, Amaechi is a straightforward leader who truly cares about Rivers State and its people. While acknowledging that he is not without flaws, he noted that the former transportation minister made significant contributions during his time in office.

However, Inkor-Tariah stressed that Obi holds the edge in terms of national acceptance. He explained that Obi enjoys wider support across Nigeria and that Amaechi would need to work tirelessly to reach that level.

He also pointed out that President Bola Tinubu faces slim chances of winning Rivers State in any future election.

“Amaechi is an honest man. He loves Rivers State and its people. As a minister, he performed very well. I am not saying he is a saint, but he is good.
We are talking about a nation and not Rivers State. If you place Peter Obi side by side with Amaechi, Obi has more acceptability. Amaechi has to work assiduously to reach Obi’s status,” he said.
