I Add Pregnancy Clause in Contracts — Music executive Ubi Franklin Speaks on Promiscuity in the Music Industry.
Popular Nigerian music executive and talent manager, Ubi Franklin, has opened up on the challenges of managing female artists, revealing that he includes a pregnancy clause in their contracts.
“When I sign a female artist, I include a clause in the contract stating that pregnancy is not permitted during the term of the agreement.
This is because we make significant financial investments in their development and career rollout,” Ubi stated during a recent appearance on the Culture Sonic Podcast. Franklin also spoke broadly on what he described as a major issue plaguing the music industry—promiscuity among artists.
He noted that both male and female artists struggle with it, especially after gaining success. “The only artist that can be controlled is the one that has not had a h+t.
Once they have a h+t, the first biggest problem for artists is w+manising. For female singers, it’s promiscuity as well,” he claimed. According to him, artists are generally easier to manage before they achieve fame.
But once they taste success, many lose focus and discipline. Ubi Franklin’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance while others criticize the pregnancy clause as discriminatory.I Add Pregnancy Clause in Contracts — Music executive Ubi Franklin Speaks on Promiscuity in the Music Industry.
