Replaces Dankaka with Ayo Omidiran as FCC Chairman in Surprise Leadership Shake-Up
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reversed his earlier decision to reappoint Dr. Muheeba Dankaka as Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), instead appointing Hon. Ayo Omidiran, a former House of Representatives member from Osun State, to the role.
The reversal came hours after Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga initially confirmed Dankaka’s second five-year term. By nightfall, a new statement revealed the change, attributing it to controversies surrounding Dankaka’s previous tenure.
Hon. Kayode Oladele, who had served as acting chairman since Dankaka’s exit in June, will now return to his role as commissioner representing Ogun State.
Omidiran, who represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2019, is known for her eloquence in debates — earning the nickname “Princess of the House” from former Speaker Yakubu Dogara. She previously served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports and was active on key committees including Communications, Judiciary, and Women Affairs.
Alongside Omidiran’s appointment, Tinubu named Mohammed Musa as FCC Secretary, renewed the terms of several commissioners, and introduced new appointees from different states.
With this shake-up, the President appears set on steering the FCC toward a new era of stability and reform.
