• Tinubu’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Explains Nationwide Power Outage, Assures Nigerians Electricity Will Be Restored Within 48 Hours After Gas Pipeline Explosion

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has given an update on the nationwide power outage affecting homes, offices, and industries across the country. Adelabu explained that the drop in electricity supply was caused by a temporary shortfall in power generation following an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Gas Pipeline and acts of vandalism on critical gas infrastructure. He assured Nigerians that repairs are ongoing and that power generation and supply are expected to be fully restored within 24 to 48 hours, especially as electricity demand rises during the Yuletide season. Power sector stakeholders, including TCN, NISO, GENCOs, and DISCOs, confirmed efforts to meet the restoration timeline, while distribution companies like IBEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by intermittent supply.

  • The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has denied claims by the Imo State Government that it is planning widespread power outages to sabotage the state’s Light Up Imo electricity project and the new Orashi Electricity Company.

Imo’s Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, alleged that the government received intelligence that EEDC was preparing to disrupt electricity across the state.

In response, EEDC described the allegations as false, baseless, and misleading, accusing the Imo government of spreading propaganda and showing long-standing hostility toward the company.

EEDC said the real sabotage came from the state government, citing an incident on November 15, 2025, when armed policemen allegedly forced the shutdown of all feeders at TCN’s Egbu Station, leaving customers in darkness.

    The company stressed:

It has no plan to carry out any major outage in the state.

Any future disruption should be blamed on the state’s actions.

It remains committed to improving power supply and investing in service delivery.

EEDC reaffirmed its mandate to ensure reliable electricity distribution in Imo State.

  • TCN announces fresh three-day outage in Lagos.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a fresh three-day electricity disruption in parts of Lagos.

The agency said the electricity disruption is due to its planned maintenance of the Ala/Alagbon 330 kV transmission line from November 26th to 29th November 2025.

TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a notice on Friday.

The schedule will affect electricity distribution to Eko Electricity Distribution Company coverage in Lagos South and part of Ogun State, including Ojo, Festac, Ijora, Mushin (also Orile areas), Apapa, Lekki (also Ibeju areas), Lagos Island (also Ajele areas) and Agbara.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that scheduled maintenance will be carried out on the Aja/Alagbon 330 kV transmission line from November 26 to 29, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

“The exercise is to enable the TCN contractor to install wave traps on the 330kV line bays at the Aja and Alagbon Transmission Substations in Lagos State. During this period, supply from the Alagbon Substation will be diverted to the Ijora 132kV line, while supplies to the Akoka and Oworo Transmission Substations will be diverted to the Ikeja West 132kV line.

“TCN explains that there will be a brief load disruption due to the diversion on the affected lines, but the areas will continue to receive a normal power supply during the maintenance window.

“TCN regrets any inconvenience this may cause electricity consumers within the Eko Disco franchise and appeals for understanding, noting that the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of transmission infrastructure in Lagos State,” TCN stated.

In July and October this year, parts of Lagos were thrown into darkness over TCN’s maintenance exercises.

The construction work will affect the 132 kV Gwagwalada-Kukwaba-Apo double-circuit transmission line.

“In view of this, TCN will undertake a planned load management operation that will involve temporary interruption of power within the working hours for the road construction to ensure the safety of all stakeholders.

“The planned outage will be executed in three phases to enhance seamless operations. • Nationwide blackout looms as Nigerian electricity workers begin strike.

Nigerians may experience blackout in the coming days as the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, commenced a strike action on Wednesday over non-implementation of the national minimum wage, casualisation of workers and other demands.

The industrial action was disclosed in a notice signed by the Acting General Secretary of NUEE, Dominic Igwebike, on Wednesday.

The union said its decision to commence the strike action follows the expiration of the ultimatum issued to the Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria,TCN, over its demands.

NUEE said it cannot fold its hands while the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, goes down the drain, hence the justification for the strike action.

“It is unfortunate that the TCN Management has decided to handle these issues with kid gloves and a lack of regard for the hard-working staff of TCN. This, they have displayed without any defined road map(s) to addressing them.

“We cannot continue to fold our arms while we watch our rights being vehemently violated and the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) going down the drain. To this end, the Union is compelled to withdraw its services.

“Members are hereby directed to withdraw services until such time that the management is ready to discharge its obligations towards the workforce,” the notice reads.

The union had downed tools in June 2024, leading to a disruption in electricity supply.

  • Nationwide blackout looms as electricity workers embark on strike.

Nigeria faces the risk of a nationwide blackout as the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) commenced an indefinite strike on Wednesday over unresolved labor issues.

The union said the action was prompted by the federal government’s failure to implement the national minimum wage, persistent casualisation of workers, and other unaddressed demands.

In a notice signed by NUEE’s Acting General Secretary, Dominic Igwebike, the union stated that the strike followed the expiration of its ultimatum to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

NUEE criticized the TCN management for what it described as a lack of seriousness in addressing workers’ grievances, warning that the electricity supply industry is being pushed “down the drain.”

“It is unfortunate that TCN management has chosen to treat these matters with levity, showing no clear plan to resolve them. We cannot continue to watch while our rights are violated and the power sector deteriorates. Consequently, members are directed to withdraw their services until management fulfills its obligations,” the statement read.

  • Lagos To Be Thrown into Darkness As TCN Begins 25-Day Maintenance.

Lagos residents are set to experience intermittent blackouts as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) begins a 25-day maintenance operation on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

According to a statement from TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the work—approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO)—involves installing Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable to enhance grid monitoring and control through the SCADA system.

The maintenance will run daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, starting July 28 to August 21, 2025. TCN said power will be restored through the affected line after each day’s work, and other circuits will remain active to help stabilize supply to Lagos.

Despite these assurances, electricity distribution companies have warned customers to prepare for disruptions. Ikeja Electric, in a notice, said, “Customers may experience intermittent power supply and load shedding across our network during the planned TCN outage.”

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) issued a similar advisory, stating the work would lead to outages and load management across its coverage areas. While the upgrade aims to improve long-term power grid reliability, Lagos residents are urged to plan for temporary interruptions during the maintenance window.
