During a live broadcast on AIT, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, expressed deep concern over the rising spate of killings in neighboring Benue State. The governor made a passionate appeal to criminal elements to desist from their violent activities and embrace peace for the sake of regional stability and human dignity.



Governor Sule stated, “There is no justification for the continuous bloodshed. I call on those involved in these acts of violence to lay down their arms and seek peaceful means of resolving grievances. We cannot continue to live in a society where human life is taken so cheaply.”

He also commended the efforts of security agencies operating in Nasarawa State for their proactive response and vigilance in curbing the spread of violence across the border. According to the governor, recent intelligence-led operations by the police and other security outfits have led to the arrest of several suspects believed to be connected to the killings in Benue.

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Umar Nadada, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation around the Benue-Nasarawa border. He disclosed that the suspects were found in possession of sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, which they intended to use in further attacks.



“Our security architecture has been put on high alert since the escalation of violence in Benue. During a recent joint patrol, our men intercepted and arrested individuals with strong links to the attacks in Benue. They were caught with AK-47s and other dangerous weapons. Investigations are ongoing,” CP Nadada stated.

Governor Sule assured the public of his administration’s commitment to peace and security, adding that Nasarawa State will continue to cooperate with Benue and federal authorities to ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

Pastor Paul Enenche has condemned the recent killings in Benue State, describing the violence as “inhumane” and calling on Nigerian authorities to take decisive action.

Nigerian music star, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has demanded urgent and collective action against the renewed killings in Benue State, describing the situation as a “national emergency”

Over 24 hours after hundreds were brutally massacred in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu has remained silent, while wishing Nigerians a Happy Father’s Day instead.

The three spokespersons for Mr Tinubu’s government — Bayo Onanuga, Sunday Dare, and Daniel Bwala — have also remained silent on the killings.

Ignoring public outrage over the wanton killings in Benue from Friday to Saturday, Mr Tinubu took to his X handle on Sunday evening to celebrate Father’s Day.

“Today, we honour our first teachers, silent defenders, and tireless nation-builders…our fathers,” Mr Tinubu said.

“Thank you to all Nigerian fathers, biological and symbolic, home and abroad. Your everyday labours shape the character of our country and the future of our children.”

Police arrest 42 bandits, herdsmen in Benue.

At least a total of 42 bandits have been arrested by police in connection with the killings in Benue State.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, disclosed this during his maiden media briefing held at the police officers’ mess in Makurdi, Wednesday night.

Among this figure, 10 suspected armed headers have been remanded and are awaiting trial, with many others undergoing investigation

Emenari added that most of the suspects were arrested upon his assumption of duty in the last month.

Following the rampant killings in Benue State and other parts of the country, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), has accused both the Federal and the Benue State governments of failing in their primary responsibility to protect lives and ensure public safety.
