Court Sentences Three Internet Fraudsters in Kwara
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Ilorin convicted and sentenced Ibrahim Ajisafe Oladimeji, Hassan Abdulmalik Temitope, and Babatunde David Olusegun for internet fraud.
The trio was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Directorate, on charges related to impersonation and cybercrime.
Temitope was specifically charged with impersonating “Jane” in 2024, defrauding John Gary of $2,500 through a fake online account, violating the Cybercrime Act 2015.
All defendants pleaded guilty. EFCC prosecution, led by Rashidat Alao, presented evidence including their extra-judicial statements and items recovered at arrest, urging conviction.
Justice Awogboro sentenced Oladimeji to 150 hours of community service at five hours daily, with no fine. He also forfeited his iPhone 12 Pro and $100 to the federal government.
Temitope received 700 hours of community service under the same conditions, forfeiting his iPhone 12 and a 2009 Toyota Camry.
Olusegun was sentenced to 150 hours of community service and forfeited his iPhone 12 and $75.
All forfeited items and sums were handed over to the federal government.
